They say even if you can play perfectly by yourself, the second you play for others u play by instinct. Playing this good with stage fright is crazy man u going places
This is very true with instrumental songs. When there's a singer, the focus of the song will usually be on the singer, and they can take the attention away from the instrument for the most part. Having just instruments basically means that if the playing isn't clean, then the general audience who don't consume the instrumental music just thinks of it as "a song with no singer" no matter how hard it looks or sound. Shows you how hard it can be to play in as an instrumentalist or being in an instrumental band.
exactly what i was thinking. this isnt just because its instrumental like the other guy said. its specifically the style of polyphia / tim henson. its very weird pattern that only sound good if played perfectly

One thing simply never change. The crowd will cheer intensely if you play river flow or something, but something like this barely gets any reaction from a public crowd 😂😂
This might be the type of crowd that would like Dua Lipa or whoever is popular even more than this. You displayed impressive musicianship here, great job.
There were people who actually appreciated it according to the reaction at the end of the video. What else did you expect the crowd to do? Like throw the flowers on the stage?
bro you smashed it plus you did it on an acoustic and people who play acoustic know just how hard it is to play a single solo on an acoustic and you played this extreme level of song flawlessly ❤
awesome dude, props to u for doing such a difficult song in front of a crowd. i swear that no matter how much i practice smth, stage fright ruins me... ^^"
This song doesn’t hit if you don’t play it the right way, play it every day and in one month listen to this to see the difference, good job and keep working my man! You can try Goat from polyphia, is Even better
Needs some work, but I can tell you’ve been putting in the work already. I’ve been playing for 15 years and it still took me a month straight to get it up to speed and mastered. The groundwork you’ve laid being In highschool is fantastic!
people seem to think that being silent during a performance is rude, makes the audience seem bored and uninterested. When it's really the most respectful thing they did, I dont know about anyone else, but I dont want people screaming and cheering when i'm trying to focus on playing a really difficult song. Plus, the whole place erupted when he was done playing.
I'm a drummer so chances are I don't know jack shit about what I'm talking about, but, dude, while your skill is impeccable and certainly impressive, you might not have been ready to perform this song if you understand what I mean. Math rock, especially Polyphia, is complex and takes a while to master. And to normal people like your audience probably is, unless you play it perfectly, it doesn't sound right. While it sounded great to me, I do feel like what I mentioned should be taken into consideration next time. Awesome job!
Understandable critique because I agree that Polyphia especially to people who aren't into them don't automatically sound as impressive as standard hair metal shredding solos, but also I think the microphone didn't do him any favours. It seemed like it would've sounded cleaner in person since even the parts I can hear in this video were kinda muffled/muted. So it might've sounded a bit smoother if I could hear some of the quieter notes that didn't get picked up. Also acoustic guitars are really finicky with that so it's not surprising that it's not just a clean even volume throughout as the amp isn't cranked up to support that. It's more of a nice nuanced sound but that doesn't get picked up by the video as well
Bro it sounded terrible for Anyone who’s a musician and especially familiar with the song you don’t need to sugar coat it. He needs to practice far more instead of doing it half assed for a crowd he knows won’t know the difference
