    A few months ago I flew to Croatia to speak with Matty Zadnikar of SeaNet Europe to talk about his company that offers the opportunity to co-own a superyacht. You can view that video at • CO-OWNING A SUPERYACHT!
    SeaNet's co-ownership structure has been so well thought out that I was convinced they will attract many people to yachting who otherwise may be reluctant to make such a large investment in what is essentially a recreational activity.
    When Matty told me that they have a new yacht available for co-ownership I jumped at the chance to produce a video of the yacht, but when I got there I found that it was not just the yacht that was impressive...but the entire SeaNet crew and experience.

      It does exist but the one I came across was marred by mandatory permanent crew which effectively more than doubled the price for an entry yacht. This pervasive notion that a yacht cannot be used without servants really ruins it for me. Otherwise I could readily afford fractional ownership. Even if I was the sole owner of a 35meter, I wouldn't want a permanent crew of 6 just in case I wanted to use it that year. And even then they only work 35 weeks of the year so the rest of the year you can't use it at all...
      The flipside though is that if the extremely wasteful costs were to fall away then there wouldn't be enough ports in the med.

    • @mini_steve
      @mini_steve 4 года назад +2

      @@DanFrederiksen Agreed. Just the thought of any crew who serve food, make beds, wash and iron owners clothes on a personal yacht tells me the owner needs help bathing after they use the bathroom. Charter yacht, understand. Personal use yacht, bit to pretentious.

    • @MrJustCallMeJames
      @MrJustCallMeJames 4 года назад +3

      Because it doesn't work the same way. They are completely different use cases and the relocation times alone are magnitudes different.
      In order to get anywhere close to private plane world you would need 1k people putting 200k each per year into a pool and then running a fleet of yachts. The startup cost would also need to come from somewhere because building up the fleet at the beginning would be the biggest expense, so add at least 200k sign up fee. And Im not even sure if the savings from economies of scale will make it work longtime, but lets say you begin with 1-2 weeks per customer on the first year and expanding to 4-6weeks allocation once the fleet is build up. Althought you could have a lot of wiggle room here based on what size of vessels you would populate the fleet with and what kind of vessels the customers were after and how many weeks they wanted to spend on them. You are also having very limited options when it comes to decoration and features. because they will have to serve the fleet instead of what you want. In private planes those things practically don't matter because they are for transport.
      You also would have endless booking problems. Lets say a movie about diving comes out and suddenly you have huge increase in the customers wanting to book the diving specialised yacht(s) of the fleet. And you are out of the time slots. And you cant slot in the other yachts without losing the "diving package" that was build into the diving yacht. Where as with planes you can just fly over another from where nearest free one is available. With yachts if you want a certain yacht from the fleet in a certain place of the world the travel time is basically used time aswell.
      Edit: I also would like to point out that the sheer amount of variance regarding the use costs between yachts make this of system far far harder to organize and get going than airplane one where the costs are far more predictable per passenger mile.

    • @DanFrederiksen
      @DanFrederiksen 4 года назад +3

      @@MrJustCallMeJames No, it's exactly like with a plane. You own a fraction of a specific vehicle, no fleet, and it's tied to a port. You check and book when you want to use it and return it to port when done. Both can be crewed or not but sailing a 55foot yacht is easier to get certified for than a million dollar jet. But uncrewed should be possible for both.
      Say a 1/8 ownership of a milion dollar vehicle, that's 125k. A lot of people can swing that. Indeed most people can swing that if they care to. Of course there is berthing and hangar cost but still. But the price example I saw for a modest yacht insisted on mom and pop store squatting in the trunk and taking 200 grand a year. No kidding. Expenses so great that you lose the entire vehicle cost every 7 years. On top of depreciation which actually doesn't have to be much on a yacht. I was looking at a Princess 52, it was 690k£ new 6 years ago and sell for 675k€ today.

But this has to be your standout effort. The yacht is stunning of course and in so many ways. I love everything she has to offer. The detail you provide regarding the co-ownership and crewing details is superb. I would love to own this yacht outright, but funds being what they are.... well let's leave it there. I am sure following your video you will have no problem finding the right party to co-own this yacht. To say I am envious is understatement in the extreme. Good luck you your future endeavours.

    Excellent layout, wonderful materials (so happy to not see the orange, glossy wood) and the ginormous windows are so nice. The aircraft carrier deck style is neat too. Co-ownership... I dunno. It's probably more clever if you really think about it but are yachts supposed to make sense? If I had the means I'd rather own myself to get the freedom. And what a show you made of it all. Probably your best to date. Still would like to see the crew quarters though, often neglected. Also a welcome delete of the blip bloppy tune that's been haunting us since the beginning, sorry... Thank you for sharing!

    I really enjoy your video's, if you ever do a Q&A, I have two questions that I'm curious for;
    1) What makes someone a "qualified buyer" and how do you verify that? I mean, someone listed in the Forbes 500 probably doesn't need any additional verification, but how about someone who's reputation does not exceed him? Does he have to show that he has the money in his bank account/has arranged financing?
    2) What would be the biggest size boat you can fully enjoy as an owner/operator without needing a crew?

    I think co-ownership is nothing more than getting a Charter "Discount Package"... or a Time-Share on the Water. Bad deal... Own the yacht solely and YOU control when you use it and you can keep 2-3 fulltime crew and bring on 2-3 more seasonally. Plus, are you going to leave your Panerai Luminor in a drawer? No. Every time you leave the yacht, you must move out like leaving a hotel.

    On second viewing, very impressive boat of course but the lounge doesn't work for me. The two blocks on the side of the entrance gives it a tunnel feel rather openness of a yacht, plus an unusual step down. The large round sitting group doesn't feel cozy either, and somewhat clutters the space rather than be appealing. For me those elements are critical for an otherwise lavish boat.

    Hello David ... great content as usual and I do hope that one day I could utilize your great services ... I may have one thing that might be a bit of a disagreement .... in all your videos everything is nice and there is nothing wrong with any thing?? On your Yachts is everything to be liked and there are nothing to complain about? I mean any subscriber would have known that you value Novolari leonard as a designer but now suddenly Akillis is also great?? How do you rate them? I mean, how do we take the subjectivity out of it?? I know for sure that a Yacht purchase is first and foremost a passion purchase and we may never be objective when it comes to passion .... but we need to start at some point, dont we?
    I do understand that you are in the business of selling Yachts and everything needs to be pretty and immaculate ... and therefore sometimes you or @aquaholic or @captian Tristan cant be seen to be critical of any Yacht/ designer/ builder ....
    But again .... and for credibilty reasons .... I would prefer to see the other side of the coin.

      You're right, and it would be great if there were a channel that covered the good, the bad, and the ugly of yachting. When I started my RUclips channel I wanted it to be a powerful marketing tool for yachts that I have for sale. For that reason I decided that if I thought a yacht could not be recommended at all (and there are a few of those...) I would rather just not cover it at all on my channel. This applies to awful products, but also to awful people I would rather not do business with. I just don't cover them.
      Every yacht that I video has positive points and I try to highlight those, however...when a client approaches me and we can talk in private I am of course happy to point out the advantages AND disadvantages of various models.

    Once I could consider to become a "qualified buyer", he just said to call somebody else! 🤣 Thug Life: for the amount of a couple of millions I can just talk with the secretary... of another company!! But "Qualified buyers" means *QUA LI FI ED* for ALL the boat! (Another zero or better two, after your account balance!)!! Not just a share! 🤣

    Amazing yacht, I can only dream. But co-ownership (pun not intended😂) sounds like one of the worst financial decisions you could make, even for a multi millionaire.

    This what is proposed as some kind novelty in sense of co-ownership is actually very old practice known as a TIMESHARE and which is not so much popular. Difference between timeshare and partial ownership is that in timeshare client is buying a time which he/she will spend as a holiday time in one of offered locations. The Time Share of the holidays is much more flexible than is this proposition. Timeshare offers to owner to arrange with TS management a most desirable and available time and location wherever TS Management has their dedicated locations. Because of very flexible availability TS has millions of TS owners and tens of thousands of rooms, apartments or even houses on disposition to chose from regarding the time season purchased.
    Partial ownership is not so good because buyer always owns one part of the same vessel. That is limiting its wishes where they want to spend their holidays. Boat, Yacht or Ship can be on one place only and buyer needs to compromise with other co-owners terms and conditions for usage of boat.
    Now the question is who would be prepared to pay 10% of the yacht value for having 10% of ownership knowing that such yacht would cost in range of 13 - 15 million EUR. 10% means one berth for 365 days or 1,5 million. Couple would spend whopping 3 million for owning a 20% of the yacht. For that amount of money anyone can buy an brand new Azimut 50 - 60 and have it 100% for themselves whenever and wherever they want it in absolutely total privacy.
    Actually partial ownership is cause for more problems than anyone would bargain for. Timeshare was popular 50 years ago but no more as the people's standard is growing and people wants more freedom than ever. Imagine if the yacht would be split between 100 co-owners what mess that would be. It is true that each of them would pay just about 150 k EUR plus maintenance costs, service costs, insurance and so on. It would be much cheaper to rent such yacht for a week with friends and go wherever you agree which is easier when you are friends than casual acquaintances.
    This proposition is not good idea because it does not work for the people who want to spend time cruising the places they love.

      Your going to spend most of your time on it keeping it clean then. It isn't practical to have a yacht of this size without crew to look after it. You may be able to skipper it yourself but are you going to clean all the bathrooms, keep the windows and the exterior clean and do all the cooking?
