    how do you test to see if the cable is still working? Mine is pretty old

    Ooof! No melting under cold temperatures? I live in a region of Canada where we have several days of temperatures below -22F (yes, -30 celsius) ! I have the brand you're showing and until now, it worked well for a few years, but I'm glad I now know of this limitation. Thanks!

    What ice-melt cable or system would you recommend for a metal roof in Western Maine with typical temps below zero F many nites in winter? Least expensive, most efficient, etc. Thanks.

      Definitely recommend for Self-regulating , Constant wattage got problem some time whe installated on Metal roof. And zero F is -17.8 degree, very close to -20 degree, as you said its a typical temps below zero F, so take this as a risk consideration point, Self regulating is recommend. Available for site customize cut .
