    That's so good to take the trees down before they fall 👍👍

      Yeah, the maples are usually pretty long lasting but the alder trees are not good trees to have around as they don't last long. I just don't like having any that could fall on the house. The cedar and doug fir trees are the exceptions as they are usually pretty stout and long lasting and most are failry far from the house in most spots so they get to stay. ;)

    Did great and saved yourself a bundle! I score my stumps and salt then keeps them from growing.

      Thanks! Yeah, the guy I rented from had a 3 day special for $700 plus $80 delivery. Not too bad. Although he said I supposedly put some new dents in the bottom side of the excavator and said he's going to get a repair estimate. I'm like, wait, isn't this an earth moving machine? Aren't dents kind of part of the deal when using such a thing? We didn't do a pre inspection or even one when he picked it up as it was dark, so I don't know that I even did it so I'm not happy about that though. Shame cause I wanted to use him again but I guess I'll have to find someone else now.

    I found that when I had a stump, I cut it close to the ground then drilled it with a hole bit quite deep 4 inches ish, packed it with Epson Salt and then added water enough to make it liquid (the tree sucks it up fairly quick) and repeat it a couple more times. The tree takes the salty water into the roots and the salt is left behind and kills the tree so it’ll not sprout up again and once dead I used the splitter and broke it down a bit further under the soil line and left nature to do the rest

      Thanks for that info. I'll have to try it out for any stumps I end up leaving as I do hope to rent another excavator next spring for a few days.

      Ha! Thanks! When I have to guide a tree to fall away from something I don't want it to fall on, it literally gives me a panic attack. So if you want to see me be a ball of anxiety, I'll be right down! Ha!

    Should push the trees over with the machine. Gets the stumps out easy with the leverage of the tree itself.

      Good idea. I have seen some videos showing that but I didn't feel comfortable to do that with this machine, especially since it was just a rental.

    Why didn't you take the trees out with the excavator? Just curious. Nice work.

    • @thesomewhathandyman9400

      Mainly because it was the first time I'd ever used one of these things so I didn't want to chance knocking one onto my house or a neighbors, or having it fall on the machine causing damage I'd have to pay for and what-not. Thanks!

    as long as you had the excavator you should have just pushed most of them over I have a smaller E26 dig up a few roots and over they go

    • @thesomewhathandyman9400
      @thesomewhathandyman9400  6 месяцев назад

      Fair enough but it was the first time I ever used one and most of the trees that were still standing wanted to fall in directions that may hit a fence or house so I was too scared to go that.
