I am so sorry for you and the loss of your young cousin. You ARE in my thoughts and prayers. You survived for a very special reason....determined by you many years away.
@otirudam I have lived in tuscaloosa my whole life, and been working ground zero since the tornado came through..... all I can say is most wooden homes that were in the path of this tornado is gone, and brick homes are a pile of rubble. AT 1:12 in the video the helicopter is directly over some brick housings, and at 4:23 are some 2 story brick apartments that I was working first hand. So to answer your question I'd say the best place to be is a home built underground :-)
I'm a firefighter from about 50 mile from T town. My county got hit by 2 or 3 tornadoes the same evening. Reality of life strikes when the first scene you arrive on has 6 dead, two are a mother holding an infant. And they're scattered how far. Makes your heart ache. My heart goes out to anyone who was hit, or has realatives that have been hit.
@otirudam Homes are built air tight these days are prone to pressure implosion from the immence pressures involved in a tornado.Years ago people would open their windows and doors to let the pressure equalize, but as of late, authorities say not to now.Brick, block, wood, and homes with siding are just as likely to be damaged from these severe storms. Some builders are now framing homes with steel and optional exterior materials, but 2 or 300 mph winds are hard to withstand.Underground is still best
where can i go to volunteer? I did some work for the advance auto parts on mcfarland today. the things i seen today will put all things in perspective, and make you have a reality check like never before. i have many utilities that could be helpful im sure.
@x3mjp I am a truck driver that has both delivered and picked up loads in this area and if I am not badly mistaken there is a printing facility or a paint manufacturer in that area so its most likely INK from one of the large drums or its red paint.
I saw this with my own eyes I was outside with around 30 people at ridge Crest South honor dorms shortly after i was the only one brave enough to stay outside and watch it pass I'll never forget this sight as it was something different to behold, it reminded me how small we are and how big power can get
@duffmann2000 thank you and everyone else that has commented as well. We're leaving out from the Hawg Shop tomorrow with our chain saws and try to help out.
@csjafi Tri-State Tornado stayed on the ground from Missouri through Illinois and disipated finally in Indiana. What is intriguing about the Tri-State Tornado is the fact that it stayed at EF-5 status for the entire time. 605 lost their lives. 40% of the casualties were school children due to the timing that it hit in some areas. When school was let out.
@otirudam Im not sure about very old houses but in houses built these days, most are framed with wood and then siding, stucco or brick is added to the exterior. I would say that brick is much stronger than siding and probably a good bit stronger than stucco. In south Florida, exterior walls are framed with concrete block in order to withstand hurricanes. I would say that is the strongest way to build a house. Concrete block houses could probably withstand much more and any of the above.
What's going on in the world? Earthquake, Tsunami and Tornado.... So many people have lost their lives by the natural disaster. We Japanese appreciate very much for USA supporting us to find victims, fix the infrastructure, bring food and required items to evacuated area, and etc. I just pray for USA and my mind is with you. From Nagasaki, Japan
@Katie102910 You, and all your neighbors, are in my prayers. So sad to hear of your cousin. Hand in there!! It will get better....you just have a tough journey ahead. You survived for a very special reason....to be determined by you at a much later time. SINCERELY....GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU.
This same system came through our area, but luckily our area didn't have any damage like this. My heart really goes out to the people of Tuscaloosa and the surrounding areas. It doesn't pay to piss of Mother Nature....
@delaney12 We in Tuscaloosa appreciate your sentiments nonetheless. Thankfully almost all able-bodied people in town have been volunteering in droves, so we are not short on helping hands. If you can, though, donations (monetary or otherwise) are what is needed now - you can do so at redcross.org. And spreading the word; telling others you know so they, too, can donate will help us a lot as well. Thank you for your sympathy...
@TheChazxxx I did some re-researching on the Tri-State Tornado after reading your response. Google Tri State Tornado and go to the NOAA page. 4th link down. Very informative.
@classictoyspaper Looked it up on google maps and went to the street level view to read the sign. Charleston Square apartments. Sad to see the before and after judging by their web site pictures...
Im so sorry for everyonea loss god bless you all.!!! I can't imagine what your all going through if I had money id help everyone u hear that rich folks help thy neighbor
@TheChazxxx Date: 03/27/1925, Place: MO, IL, IN. Time: Official touch down at 13:01 3 miles NNW of Ellington, Missouri, 16:30 PM tornado dissipated about 3 miles SW of Petersburg, Indiana, On the ground for a consecutive 219 miles, F5 tornado on the Fujita Scale, with winds perhaps in excess of 300 mph, 695 deaths-a record for a single tornado, 234 deaths in Murphysboro-a record for a single community from such a disaster.. By the time it hit Princeton, IN. They didnt know what it was.
My thoughts and prayers to everybody down there. May God bless you and watch over you. Please read Matthew chapter 28, it has helped me in times of heartache.
Just think ladies and gentlemen, TORNADO season has just begun.. Just in April of this year alone over 800 Tornadoes have been confirmed. 600 in just this last 2 weeks. Unusual? No.. Not really. This is actually a normal transition from Winter to Spring. We just havent had this conversion in 15-20 yrs so we have forgotten what its like. What I find interesting is all of the houses with crosses in the yards. The houses are gone but the crosses remain. Makes ya think alittle don't it.
I was near it, but I didn't go through it. It had 250 deaths I know because my dad works for FBI and he was there and counted all the dead people 250 so sad....
@MrRadar1967 I Have To Disagree The Official Information Regarding The TRI STATE Event Records That The Tornado Was Likely To Have Sustained F3 Status Briefly While 90 % Of The Tornados Path Was A Strong F2 Three Quater Mile Wide Tornado
@nebosuke6969 Thank You for the prayers, check out Matthew Chapter 24, This could also be a small part of the seven thunders as seen in the Revelation to John chapter 10, my guess is the seven thunders are weather disasters.
To All Bible Thumpers.... I have heard so many of you say ITS THE END OF THE WORLD TIME or THE END IS NEAR... This has nothing to do with the end of time. Dont get me wrong, EVERYONE is entitled to their beliefs and their religion, I have no problem with that however you need to understand this is very common. It is very Simular to the April 3rd-4th 1974 Super Out Break. Everyone was saying the same thing. Its 47 yrs later and we are still here.
If there was ever a time where I actually believed all this end of the world crap...it would have to be now. Japan, Alabama, terrorism, animals just dying randomly, right-wing feelings popping back in Europe, etc...it's been a very hard time recently. God bless us all.
@MrRadar1967 Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires. They will say, "What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created. 2 Peter: 3 - 4.
How can you even compare this carnage to Japan this is nothing like Japan! Yes this is devastating and i feel for all those people that have lost everything but seriously Nothing like Japan.
u people do not have to put up with such disasters why are u hopless and useless. i do not understand, even with all todays technologys ur hands tide up. I really really feel sorry for u people. and that is up sitting me !!!!!. ?????.

@javius1220 alabama isn't known for tornado's...the last one that did any damage here was years ago.
seeing all this damage makes me feel sorry for those who suffered through this

This is just sad. I live in Alabama. Everything is so sad. My friends sister died and went to school at Alabama.
i'm sorry for everyone's loss. either material or family and friends...godspeed to all of you.
@duffmann2000 thank you and everyone else that has commented as well. We're leaving out from the Hawg Shop tomorrow with our chain saws and try to help out.
The distance I gather that helicopter traveled in the 4 part video is somewhere in the neighborhood of about 50 to 60 miles
@csjafi Tri-State Tornado stayed on the ground from Missouri through Illinois and disipated finally in Indiana. unreal.....our thoughts and prayers are with you in new york...

@classictoyspaper Looked it up on google maps and went to the street level view to read the sign. Charleston Square apartments. Sad to see the before and after judging by their web site pictures...
@otirudam obviously brick is slightly stronger but in a tornado of this size it really doesnt matter underground is best
Im so sorry for everyonea loss god bless you all.!!! I can't imagine what your all going through if I had money id help everyone u hear that rich folks help thy neighbor
Unbelievable that more people weren't killed...such a terrible sight, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
My goodness the destruction seems to go on forever. I have never known a tornado to be so horrible.
the damage path looks to be about a quarter mile wide ?
The tornado was 1 mile wide
@TheChazxxx Date: 03/27/1925, Place: MO, IL, IN. @otirudam With a storm that strong, it doesn't matter what a building (that includes homes) is made of, as you can see by the footage. :(
@otirudam Yes, a brick home is stronger than one made of wood only.
insane! the path is incredible, its unreal how it stayed on the ground so long.
looks like a weapon.
@jjmusic4 From what I understand 308 in 6 states with Alabama having the highest count in fatalities
This is completely surreal. I can't even process it. It's like something from a nightmare.
Even with ALL they've been through- Life goes on. Crazy amount of destruction! :(
I was there I'll never forget :(...
Now IM in Tennessee
@atlmartinb thanks for the useful info
The victims, ur in my prayers. :(. From Canada.
WOW! that is a lot of damage
.. It looks so different..
My thoughts and prayers to everybody down there. May God bless you and watch over you. Please read Matthew chapter 28, it has helped me in times of heartache.
OMG THIS VIDEO IS INSANE I CAN'T BELIEVE IT..

Brick does worse because it is too rigid and doesn't give like a stick (wood built) house. But nothing stands up to a direct hit.
The wife told me not to drink the last beer...lol
unbelievable
I was near it, but I didn't go through it. It had 250 deaths I know because my dad works for FBI and he was there and counted all the dead people 250 so sad....

It has since been ruled a "tornado family" which means a single tornado didn't remain on the ground the entire distance.
wow it took out a Train Bridge, Thats some tornado
nature is powerful ,
@Plumyplum no.
@PakdeHari not quite but its pretty bad
@MrGSWAGG92 Charleston Square Apartments

@nebosuke6969 Mother nature and the Earth is sick and tired of us hurting her with our pollution and other mindless things. This is her revenge.
