The Johnson Viking Xmitter and the National Receiver looked all but new. Wow! Someone really took tender loving care of that gear, and it's great to seem them back in action. Great equipment, still operating after half a century. We Hams should all be so durable.......

Wow those old rigs are so neat, and they look so good. Radio is slightly short of magic. This is what electricity has made.

I've listened to this and several other AM nets on my c crane skywave shortwave radio a few times already, and I've heard some crazy things going on, now I know to look for tune up activity as there'll be a lot of carriers stepping on top of one another. most of the time I'll listen to them using online SDR radio apps though but when I'm outside of Wi-Fi, I'll sometimes tune for am signals on my cc skywave shortwave radio though. very interesting to hear all the different call signs though,

Pretty cool. A while back I had asked if you had ever seen the "Viking 500", I guess you have. I would love to see you do a look see inside of that beast.

I picked up a JV500 last year. It's still on the shelf... haven't ever powered it up. Was sold to me as a working unit along with a Collins RE KWM-2A. Hope mine works as well as yours.

What a nifty transmitter, did it need any work? Cosmetically it looks great. Are you using a Dow key? Was there anything special because of the 500W? Charlie KM4ZZ

Hello Charlie, Yes Sir, I love it. No work was required, the past owner took very good care of it. Yes, I am using a DowKey, works perfect, mutes the NC-303. I plan to be on the air more often. Look for me around 3.885Mhz. TD

D-lab Electronics I am a big fan of your videos, up until now I’ve been more of a QRP CW portable ops kind of guy, but your videos are inspiring me to think big, powerful, boat anchor. I understand the theory but could you do a video on the Viking 500, zero beating to the receiver, connections, plate and grid tuning .... I think that until I move to a larger house, I will have to live vicariously through you. Thanks for your excellent videos. Charlie.

if this is on AM, I have a little shortwave radio made by c crane and it receives AM only on the HF bands from about 2300 KHZ to about 26100 KHZ. I would like to put my call sign out for short time, KC9CPX short time no traffic, lol.

  • @chansetwo

Why do hams laugh when they key down on the microphone? Why do hams refer to themselves as "we" when they are only one person? I make it a point not to do these things.
