It is a professional basketball club serving with the National Basketball Association. Initially, the team was founded in 1988, when it began its performances in Charlotte (North Carolina), but after the Charlotte Bobcats changed their name to Charlotte Hornets in 2014 and became the legal successor of the team that played before the 2001/2002 season with the same name, the club's history began with the Hornets' move to New Orleans, Louisiana in 2002.
