i living in small town 60 km away from major earhquake. i. Thanks God our Town dont take top much damage because is built on the mountainside. But mostly towns and cities gone almost comlompletely.. as i can see i think Real dead numbers will be up more than 100.000 . Turkey need your prays.

This is absolutely mental. To think so many could die from an earthquake. I understand the severity such a natural disaster can be, but to think 25,000 has sadly died is unthinkable. Hope more can be found and saved.
I saw an interview where a guy dug in the rubble with his bare hands for 14 hours to pull out his wife and son. He found them alive. They were interviewed in the hospital. A miracle the father never quit and found them alive!

Some experts expect up to 100K, unfortunately, because of the sizes and numbers of the buildings. Let's hope for the best results and more survivors and least casualties for those people.
Seems most people haven't been discovered just yet under these mountains of rubble. Tragic.
The actual death toll is at least 10 times higher than the reported number. The earthquake happened in 10 provinces and the total population of these 10 provinces is 15 million. There is almost no building that has not been demolished due to the earthquake. Take into account that the earthquake happened at 4 am and 80% of the debris was not reached.
Kinda of a stretch to say that a quarter of a million people died...

I am guessing the cold temperatures are helping keep people alive as long as the rubble keeps them warm enough. If the weather is too hot, that seems like it would work against trapped survivors as far as time is concerned.
Actually the opposite, many people have been found to die of hypothermia under the rubbles

It's horrifying what they are going through. So heartbreaking.

This catastrophic earthquake is heartbreaking. The rescuers and emt are trying their best in horrifically difficult situations.
Nothing is going to be the same again there ,people will be scared to live in those blocks . It beyond words all of it ,how do you give comfort to those that have lost loved ones?

let's not forget, turkey is already a decade into their $500B Urban Transformation (Law No 6306 “Transformation of areas under disaster risk"), which had a 20yr timeline to get all existing buildings retrofit, and ensure all new construction followed the updated Turkish Earthquake Code (TEC-2010), introduced in 2010.
many of the buildings that fell were built in the past few years (after 6306 took effect)
turkey will once again legislate the blame away, and continue to take no action. something we'll continue to see around the globe in the coming years.
