Although Blink 182 are one of the most successful bands & pop punk groups of all time, there's a surprising amount of people in the world that seem to straight up HATE them. Today, we take a look at 6 reasons why people on the internet seem to hate blink 182. Remember, while I do weigh with my own take on each point, these are NOT my reasons that I came up with.

Couple of opinions this video hit me with.
1: Just because a band changes their music, doesn’t mean they are bad. It just means they are a different genre.
2: The simple lyrics. I hope it was just a plan for California just to get their voice heard since people seam to have an infatuation with generic radio hits. Hopefully now that it is out of the way, hopefully they do more with the next record.

Their self-titled it's incredible, even if you're not a blink fan, it's outstanding, the production it's perfect and the mixing, for an audio engineer it's a must listen, everything in that album has an explanation on the sounds for why it's there. I keep listening to this band just for this album, also it's really mature compared to the others, and also compared to the last one (wtf happened with this last album it's terrible and the rad "cool" actitude seems phony for me at their age), the others I think they aged badly and they are kind of dated for some people.

And they were crazy energetic, both mark and tom jumping all over the place on stage, Travis going nuts on the drums and spinning upside down. And in between songs they were like stand up comedians, hilarious. The chemistry that was between Mark and Tom is unmatched.

To say you hate blink cause they "pretend" or "pretended" to be "punk" is kinda a dumb thing to do, basically because they emerged from the 90s explotion of the SoCal punk scene, for them releasing an album like Cheshire Cat with their own money invested on it and then it went to selling, like over 65,000 copies is a very DIY thing. The follow up Dude Ranch, totally put them in the seats to what was coming. Those first two records are entirely raw modern punk rock's classics that every one needs to put on repeat.
Enema was and still is on a level where Dookie resides. It was equally revolutionary and to this day doesn't get enough credit for it. They were punk cause they represented their ideals. They still are because those are their roots and you can't take that away from them.

How about a future video on why people hate Muse? I do love them quite a bit, but I’ve seen a number of reasons people hate them. Some include:
Their music and live shows are overly theatrical/over-produced.
Their music has steadily declined in quality, with people varying on what album it happened.
They completely left the rock genre and went sorta pop.
All their songs and albums are about the same thing (revolutions, dystopian societies, etc.)
Those and other reasons I hear of.

    • @drmmr561
      @drmmr561 5 лет назад +1

Also a longtime fan of them, I actually agree with those aforementioned reasons. While they are incredible live, they do go a bit over the top (I think it's just their thing though). I will also say that since The 2nd Law (2012) that they've kinda lost some kinda spark. And yes, while they haven't totally abandoned the Rock genre as a whole, they seem to be distancing themselves from it (even if it's in the name of being "artistic" which I think also has always kinda been their thing). Again, just opinions and regardless they are easily one of my favorite bands!

    • @heymistercarter.
      @heymistercarter. 5 лет назад +1

@@drmmr561 I can see what you mean by that. I will say, with some of the points, while I can see where people are coming from with them, I may not always agree on them. For instance, on the big music and especially live shows, I kinda feel their production value and theatrical live shows help set them apart. They really seem to want to give fans their money's worth, and they do with giving you a real experience when you see them. That said, for people who just want to see a band up on stage playing songs they like, they may not like an extravagant live show like what Muse provides. As for their sound quality declining/moving away from Rock, I'm not a Muse purist or anything. I'm more flexible on their sound and which tracks of theirs I like over others. I will say, I have a friend who claims their last great album was Absolution, so that's what I mean by saying there's divide on when their sound quality declined. Some would argue that one, some say BH&R, some say Resistance, and so on. 2nd Law seems to be one many point to, but there are some tracks on there I really like (especially Supremacy, Follow Me, Liquid State, and Unsustainable). There are some songs that aren't as good as others, such as Save Me on 2nd Law and some tracks on the latter half of Drones (like Revolt and some parts of Globalist), but the good tracks outweigh the bad ones for me. Of the points I listed, really the only one I can agree on is the lyrical content and themes being a bit repetitive from album to album. They do mention rebellions, sci-fi themes, dystopian societies, and so on a bit too much in my eyes, and I wouldn't mind seeing them change it up a bit in the future. That said, when Muse is great, they're awesome in my eyes.

@@drmmr561 Long time time of muse too! :) It must be hard being a band that is hitting 20+ years old though. Things change and you change, musically and creatively. Also you could fall into the trap of not being relative anymore.
I feel its a very common thing for musicians, speaking for myself the music I wrote when I was 18 is nothing like the music I write at 30 now, and I imagine even more different when I am in my 40's.
Funnily enough this is what muses song 'Pressure' about, how he is torn to keeping his brand from old muse style to keep fans happy or just do what he wants to do. He purposely made that song more heavier, to give that old muse style :)

I don't like Blink-182 because I think the singing is monotone, the bass doesn't deviate from the guitars in any special way, and the guitar work is basic. There is a difference between melodic guitar playing and basic guitar playing. Melodic guitar is specifically meant to serve a song while still being complex enough to showcase technical proficiency (David Gilmour). Basic guitar playing is when the guitar work sounds basic and sounds like a beginner toying around on guitar (Jack White, Tom DeLonge, and Blink-182 era Matt Skiba).

Blink 182 Evolution. Cheshire Cat and Buddha Age: Shaky and not as produced punk
Dude Ranch Age: More Produced and hard hitting punk
Enema of the state Age: Where the pop part of pop punk comes into place
TOYPAJ Age: Similar to enema of the state except a little bit more slower songs
Untitled Age: More experimental and dark
Neighborhoods age: More like an Angels and Airwaves Sound
California age: WOAH OH OH OH OH OH
Nine Age: More pop and hip hop based rock

From a longtime fan, I'm just gonna say (in my opinion), so many of these reasons are silly and some flat out dumb. For starters, shallow lyrics? While they definitely have their aforementioned "joke songs", they also have some very deep and even personal lyrics in their catalog ("GO", "Stay Together for the Kids", "Down", hello, "Adam's Song" is about freakin suicide!) Them not being "punk"....good lord. It's called Pop-punk people, it's a subgenre of the bigger "Punk" umbrella. And Tom being absent...(while I didn't like the departure), guess what? Members are allowed to move on. While some of these do have merit, many of these reasons are just lame Again, just my thoughts.

blink is by far my favorite band, even though I'm not a super huge fan of California. I can tolerate it, but I prefer their albums with Tom. But I don't think they have shallow lyrics at all, the songs you mentioned are definitely deep, although you could make an argument saying California had shallow lyrics.

Nice video. I was a huge Blink 182 fan growing up. IMO they stopped being good after “Man Overboard” with the only song exception being “Bored to Death”. The band just stopped having fun playing together. Tom just gave up and the bands live performances suffered. Mark now just keeps trying to be relevant and has started several project bands trying to recapture the late 90s Blink success that IMO aren’t working. I like many forms of music and unfortunately Blink is not punk rock. They are pop punk. But they never claimed to be punk. They would always say they had punk bands as influential material. If somebody says Blink 182 is my favorite punk band I just say oh I like them too. No need to argue.

All those songs are from the Take off Your Pants & Jacket and Self-Titled albums. Both albums are really good listens where they did try to go for better lyrics and a harder sound. I loved "California" but I do get the knock on the lyrics not feeling like they have meaning. That's on Feldman. He would give them time limits to hurry up and get songs written. Plus, Mark really wanted this record to get back to basics for an album. For the new album, they are apparently getting way more experimental like the "Untitled" album. The live thing makes no sense though. With Tom post the first breakup, they were bad because he butchered the vocals. But the positive of having Tom was more of the banter and comedy. Matt is extremely better live musically though so it's a good trade off. To say Mark just stand there is insane though, he's constantly running around.

#6 is THE reason. When you lose 1/3 of something, it's never as good. Tom wound up being a nerd/tool, but he destroys Skeeza on vocals and guitar. The primary element that made blink so good was the contrasting vocals of Mark and Tom - the distinct highs and lows played well together and blended beautifully the music. And they ARE punk - maybe not as hard-core as Descendents, Vandals, UK Subs or 7 Seconds

Blink-182 were an important part of my teenage years and I still love listening to them. Tom Delonge was my guitar hero and i went to several AVA and Blink-182 concerts, and I was pretty devastated when he left the band the 2nd time, however, I sadly saw it coming. He was great when they played Brixton in 2012 and the stage banter was largely still there, but then came Reading 2014, he didn't seem to give a damn. In hindsight, it was pretty obvious that Blink wasn't his top priority.
While Matt Skiba is probably a better guitarist than Tom, it's still not Blink to me. California just didn't work for me because it was like it was trying to emulate old school Blink without the old school guitarist, but Nine was pretty decent because it was it's own identity and was Matt's moment to shine and put his own stamp on it, but it barely feels like the band I fell in love with. It's almost like Blink-182 is little more than a brand name these days. If Mark, Matt and Travis formed a completely new band, I'd pay to see them. Maybe then they'd shake their reputation for teen angst and toilet humour considering they're nearing their 50's now.

Having been a fan of Blink 182 before the 182 and having been a fan of Marks before Blink I am seriously biased. The music is just fun. When I hear all the small things or whats my age again, it just puts you in a good mood. Do I think Blink 182 is a ground breaking band, no of course not. Now I did see them in 1999 when they were touring with Fenix TX and Bad Religion and yes they were sloppy at first, I was a bit disappointed but then after a few songs went by they brought it! As far as the Punk label. Punk is doing what you want and not giving a crap what others think. its living in your authenticity. I knew Mark in high school. He was a prankster, mischievous and very funny. Kind of like Blink huh. So if you apply what I said about Punk to how Mark was in high school and how he is with Blink 182 than uh...yeah he is more punk than the gang of dudes with matching leather jackets with spikes on them. Also Mark dressed up just like Robert Smith from the Cure. Mascara, lipstick everything!! Guys that was brave back in 1990. And he owned it!! So yeah for those that don't think Mark was a serious punk, you don't know the dude at all!

I’m excited to hear the next album. I think it’s going to have a bit more influence from Matt in the mix and it’s going to turn out to be a really good album.
People need to understand that California was the bands first record with a new member who most likely didn’t want to put his mark all over it out of respect as a newcomer to such a legacied band.
The “na na na” complaint is blown out of proportion. If you read through the lyrics of the album you will see they are literally only in two songs if I recall correctly. The same people that complain about the na na nas also seem fine with Angels and Airwaves “whoa oh ohhs” and “la da da tahs” on every other song...
