  • Another great recipe coming from Corey Cabral - Mayfly Clinger Nymph. A very cool pattern that imitates the mayfly clinger nymph. A cross between a super realistic pattern and an imitative style, incorporating some realistic tying parts to achieve the authentic looks and get better effectiveness. You are getting the same profile, size, shape, proportions, as the nymph you are trying to imitate. It has the needed movement with the legs, hare’s ear dubbing, and the tails. You can vary the colors and sizes depending on the insect life in your area. They are pretty quick to tie and very neat-looking nymphs.
For this recipe you need the following:
    • Hook: Size 8 Wet Fly Hook (try Hemingway’s HC113 Wet Fly Hooks: frostyfly.com/shop/hemingways...)
    • .25 lead-free wire
    • Thread: 6/0 Uni camel
    • Rib: 5X Tippet
    • Tail: Pheasant Tail Fiber
    • Back: Hemingway's Mayfly Wing Buds & Back, Large size, Green color (frostyfly.com/shop/realistic-...)
    • Body: Hemingway's Hare Plus UV Dubbing - Brown color (frostyfly.com/shop/dubbing-ha...)
    • Wingcase: Hemingway's Mayfly Wing Buds & Back, Large size, Green color (frostyfly.com/shop/realistic-...)
    • Legs: Hemingway's Realistic Mayfly Legs (frostyfly.com/shop/realistic-...)
Featured in this video are Hemingway's products: Realistic Mayfly Buds & Back (frostyfly.com/shop/realistic-..., Realistic Mayfly Nymph Legs (frostyfly.com/shop/realistic-...) and Hare Plus UV Dubbing (frostyfly.com/shop/dubbing-ha.... Hi my Bud! I made some notes as I watched you work. You are a superb tyer, I’ll start with that. Take a wrap under those tails and place a tiny bit of head cement at the base of the tails, they will splay nicely and stay there. Also, to align the wire with the sides of the shank I use a pair of pliers and pinch the shank from front to back while holding the pliers level. The flat edges of the pliers force the wire to be equal on both sides and aligned properly. I have only 1 question..I thought you would have applied the legs after partially dubbing the thorax and then dubbed between the legs to cover the middle section that hold the legs, why didn’t you do that? Cheers my man.

Looks good but by my experience securing anything to a fly using adhesive alone usually does not last... Nice pattern...Thank You

Nice pattern but way to big for the rock clingers in my streams in south western PA or norther West Virginia

Well done instructional video. Sorry, but it's simply too contemporary a tie for me. It does look very real though!

Any fly fisherman who use this kind of flies don't deserve any fish!

Deserving or not, they catch fish. Sometimes being a purist has merit. When traditional flys aren’t working, sometimes flies like this work really well.

Nothing “natural” about using artificial features for legs and back. Not my preference!

Is this called The Abomination? Very thick for most clingers and not a huge fan of pre-fab stuff. Just more man-made crap that can end up in our rivers.
