  • #Harmukh #Gangabal Tirtha is one of the most venerated places of Kashmir. The place finds mention in Kalhan’s Rajtarangani. The annual yatra is taken on before Ganga Ashtami where on the day the ceremonial shradh of ancestors is done at the holy lake.
The lake is situated at the height of almost 13000 feet ASL. This oligotrophic lake has fresh water coming from Harmukh glacier.
The other lake smaller in size is few hundred meters before Gangabal and is known as *Nandisaras*. Dedicated to Nandi the attendant of Lord *Shiva*.
The whole region is known as *Nandikshetra*.
The area has tremendous spiritual merit. Here is the link of the Nandisar which is now known as Nandkul.

Harmukh and Kailash parvat have such a striking resemblance ( appearance wise ,they seem geologically identical ). No wonder Gangabal / Harmukh is considered as the Kailash of Kashmir.
