learn how to create embeddable content in one page that you can then embed in another page in Confluence using the Excerpt and Include Excerpt macros.

nice video thanks. Is it possible to include an excerpt from a specific version of a source page or is it limited to including the excerpt content from the current source page only? Are you able to explain how excerpt differs from shared block? Thank you!
Sorry for late reply, I have been dealing with my health the last few weeks.
Now, having an excerpt targeting a certain version can be done by setting different names on the Excerpt in the published version and any draft or previously published version. It might be a bit of a hassle, but it is possible.
Shared Block, that would be the app Include Content you are referring to? marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1217141/include-content?tab=overview&hosting=server
Thanks for the video. The flow requires that you create your source content as excerpts in the first place. Is there any way to retrospectively turn content into excerpts?
Basically i would like to:
Go to source page > highlight content block > set to an excerpt for reuse elsewhere
I hear you :)
Unfortunately, it can't be done at the moment. We can create a request for it and this could actually be used in many other ways as well, like marking a text and making that into a status or a Confluence task.
That would be very nice.
@@jimiwikmanofficial thanks for the reply. It would very useful, and such an obvious usecase. Especially when often times someone else is the source page owner. How is such a request created?
Is there a way to enable live-refresh? Or do I always need to manually reload the page whenever I change the parent page?
It should always refresh when you enter the page. Live-refresh could probably be added, but it is not added at the moment. It is a good suggestion though and perhaps a notification if the page is in edit mode as well, so the users know it is being worked on...
@@jimiwikmanofficial thank you for the fast answer. What my problem is, is that the page is often cached. And by just clicking on another page it does not reload the content if the source page was changed meanwhile. To always be certainly up to date I hence have to refresh the whole browser tab.
@@Donnerbalken_ The Macro should not be cached, though, as it should fetch the actual content through the connection. If the page caches the macro content as well, then that would be a bug. It is an interesting find and I will try to test it and see if I can verify it. Is it on Cloud or Data Center you see this behaviour?
@@jimiwikmanofficial it is on cloud. For me it will often not update when I navigate between previously opened confluence pages. However, whenever I fully refresh the tab manually, it will work. Thank you for your time and help :)
@@Donnerbalken_ Happy to help, and it is an interesting find indeed and some potential for improvement for Atlassian! Thank you for sharing.
Is there a way to know where (on which pages) an excerpt is included in?
At the moment, I don't think there is. It is a good suggestion though, and it could be added to the Confluence statistics I think.
couldn't this be sumarised in 2 min vid
It could, but this video is not a summary, but a tutorial :)
