Man, your content is so good, Bromley. Now you've got my 64 year old self wanting to get a log bar and farmers walk handles. You deserve all the success your channel has gotten over the years!
I got stones, waiting for sandbags to restock and just recently ordered farmers handles, always loved dynamic movements like sandbags and farmers just seem fun, used to do these with kettlebells.
Pre watch guess list for the strongman exercises / events that Alexander Bromley puts in S for becoming more jacked and more generally strong and useful: 1. Any type of off the ground loading event. Sandbags, stones, whatever. 2. Overhead lifts, probably anything off the ground 3. Any type of squat. He will make his obligatory reference to Mark Rippetoe saying “they make you harder to kill.” 4. Farmers walks / handle carry’s You can rip me apart in the replies for everything I get wrong. I watch this man’s videos way too often lol.
i think the continued use of the axel is to help differentiate between olympic weightlifting. if the clean and jerk/press record was shattered by a strongman it would have many "purists" up in arms about PED use in strongman
My brother actually found he had good carryover from the yoke to the squat. He added about 60 pounds to his squat in the half a year since he started yoke carries. Granted, he's not at the level of someone like Bromley. But he is a strong dude (590 max squat and worked up to short bursts on the yoke with 900 pounds around the same time).
I think Alan Thrall agrees with you on the problems with the axle clean and press. It seems like he was more arguing for the benefits of cleans in general and push presses in general.
Awesome content, thanks! Finally someone has a more nuanced take on axle DLs than "it's for grip". OK, tricky question incoming: deficit SLDLs are often recommended for stones as an accessory. By the same logic you apply to axle DLs (i.e. the bar doesnt roll, move, bend, etc.) would you recommend axle deficit SLDLs over regular ones for stones as an accessory?
Farmer walk is the best exercise to do. I live in a rural town, no big gyms near, I got few weights, I just chopped some logs and build me some stuff to do farmer walks
I would’ve put yoke in F tier if we’re talking about building muscle. Yoke makes you good at yoke, it beats you up like crazy, and I’ve heard several strongmen mention the lack of carryover to other lifts. Other than that I’d maybe put Husafel stone in S tier but overall a very good list.
@@NboOfficialAusStrongman has always been about athleticism and technique. Powerlifting isn't a huge thing in Strongman, events and spectacle is. You could argue most Strongman circus acts were faked to shock the crowd. Strongman started from entertainment.

sir, I cannot find the answer to this question on the Internet, so I think this is the right place. When to use a belt when lifting stones/sandbags? I don't own a belt - should I buy it if I want to explore sandbags and stone lifting and have a tweaky back? I see you do it both with belt and beltless.
Bromley, do any of your programs prioritize both the overhead press and bench? I compete locally in strong man so overhead is my main concern but I'm sick and tired of not having a 315 bench
Close Grip Bench Press is one of the best assistance exercises for a strong overhead press if you lack pressing power but i would advice NOT TO use legs at all on a bench press in that case. Do feet up bench close grip in that case so it will actually only be your upperbody working
@@RobinJohnsson1000 I added in close grip at the start of the summer and my bench finally started going up. Slow progress but I've put 10-15 on it and 15lb on my push press
Dropping a comment bc I’m a whore for circus press as it is indeed a parlor trick lol I actually think there’s some utility as a general developmental tool but certainly doesn’t take the place of other overhead movements. Fun way to program them for conditioning is taking a lighter load and alternating hands for 6-10 reps each side. I’ve used this with clients before and it def catches up to you after 4-5 reps lol
Wouldn't yoke have a good benefit carryover to other things like the keg/Sandbag/shield carry? The yoke is heavier on your back and doesn't require you gripping it in the front like the others, but doesnt it train you for the other events by putting a much heavier load on your body than the front carries?

225 is peanuts. I’ve seen tiny guys clean and jerk that for reps. If you can hang clean 225 for multiple reps with minimal lower body engagement you likely have a solid yoke.
A lot of unwarranted hate for the axle. For general purposes, axle anything will make you a better athlete and person. Maybe not specifically continental clean, but double overhand powers or even DOH continentals with an axle will make you a strong mofo - add to that the extra mobility it requires in front rack and the lack of whip in the bar have it in at least B, if not A tier
