What about using a Ceramic Knife blade to cut from the top?
Not sure about that, but the hook blade does a good job.

It is a Stanley Quick Change knife
Guys that installed my roof left me about 2" overhanging into the gutters. Think I'll just get up there with the sawzall and have some fun.
