I'm very happy with my blue/gold pen. Now, I'm tempted by the black/chrome version. For those who think that it might be uncomfortable to hold; not at all. It was fun; seeing all your little creature pen holders.
D5 is my pen of 2023. Red, Green and Black/Black so far. That blue looks much nicer than the pics on Amazon… I might go for it. And i recommend the green!
Chris, is it the ink or the paper or the nib that causes that feathering on the page? It seems broader than a F. Thanks again for another fun review, and say hello to the crabs.
Bought the purple model D5 a couple weeks ago,.....very very impressive in the hand too. I've not yet inked it but will in the near term. It's so nice I will next buy the red one,........cheers.
Thank you for this video on the D5. I originally bought the black and gold model. Who's is proudly sitting in my display tray in my bookcase. The big decision is which one to get. The blue and gold is beautiful, but the purple and gold is stunning. I just ordered the blue and gold! I never knew I'd had an ink window!
@@chrisrap52 But this will not fit so nicely to the rest of the ornaments in the pen, unfortunately... Are you saying Hongdian #6 housing will take any Jowo with no issues? I've had some problem with Moonman M800 to take Leonardo #6, there was something wrong with ink flow, so I used Kaigelu nib. But Hongdian pen designs are recently very close to be a nice addon to my pens.
@@tayterlik When swapping nibs need to be aware of any differences. Which feed do you use? How is the nib seated on the feed? Not always a good fit. Also with ink flow issues, sometimes some inks just don't flow well in some pens.
That was my first impression too. There is a part of me that does go "Ooo, shiny!" but otherwise they are just a bit too gaudy for my taste. The segmented look is also too busy for me. If I was of a mind to impress certain types people, I can imagine flashing around this pen would achieve that.
Actually the red and silver one isn't so bad, but the segmented look still is a bit much. I've also learned to appreciate a lighter pen for longer writing periods to lessen hand fatigue, so that might also be an issue with these.

Beautiful pens. Just ordered the black / silver one. I like all those China-style/ dragon pens.
Great review as always. Many thanks, Chris.

Primarily it is the ink, second is paper, last is nib. Fabriano feathers easily, the Birmingham ink is very wet & can feather. Together they feather.

Good choice!
I have been thoroughly enjoying my one & only D5 in Black and Silver with a dark fine nib.

Red + dark chrome for me - if only there was a chance stubby BB in dark chrome...
As one may say can't have everything. You could swap in a Bock/Jowo #6 BB nib.

Idk those type of pens kinda look uncomfortable. They look nice but uncomfortable
Feels good in my hand. Great writers.
Um...Excuse me. But, am I the only here who thinks that these are utterly ugly looking pens? 😮

Yes. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I'm not one for the over-ornate, but I would rather have one of these than a MB Limited Edition silliness (except for resale value 😉)
Resale value not a good metric to determine what pen to buy.
