    Hey Sebastian - My wife and I did Athens from a Celebrity cruise ship this past September, and your videos were INDISPENSABLE for our visit - so thank you so much! We tried to get a tour with you personally, but you were booked up so far in advance, there was sadly nothing available. Just for reference to any of your followers here, our ship was in port from 8AM to 8PM, and here is what we ended up doing: Like some others here have mentioned, we grabbed the X80 bus right off the ship. Fortunately, we only had to wait about 10mins. We took it to the Acropolis stop and got off there. We were quite early, so we took your advice from other videos, and hiked up to Areopagus hill. SO glad we found your recommendation for that in another video. Such a great view, and we never even would have known it was there. We then went on a guided tour of the Acropolis in a large group tour. Would not do this again - would just do it on our own. After that we walked to the Acropolis museum and did a self guided audio tour. It was advertised as taking 90mins....but that is just not the case. The place is huge and we felt it easily would've taken all day to see it all properly. It was worth seeing, but we had to leave WAY before we were finished to keep on schedule. From there, we took the train to Syntagma square to try and catch the changing of the guard, but missed the start of it by about 1 minute....and it was SO crowded, we just kept on going and walked to our final destination, which was Monastiraki Square, so we could eat lunch at "A for Athens" as you had recommended. This was was the best part of the trip next to Areopagus. Had a great lunch sitting towards the right side of the bar with an unbelievable view of the Acropolis. The bartender was great, and helped us try a bunch of different traditional appetizers. To get back to the ship, we took the train to Piraeus Station, crossed the bridge and walked down to Karaiskaki Square, and caught a bus (can't remember which one - we asked some locals and they told us the number) which dropped us off at Cruise port terminal A. We were docked at terminal B - so the farthest one, but it was still better than walking from Piraeus station. We go SO many great photos from these locations that I wish I could show you, but again - thank you SO much for all your info online. We have sent several people to check out your site and channel.

      @a415man I did some Google search today. From just outside the Piraeus metro, you can board public bus numbers 826 or 843 or 859 and get pretty close to Cruise Terminal A for a cost of just over €1.00. Then you need to walk to your vessel. It's a good option. I was looking for options. Thanks for the tips.

      @jpmcc 826 rings a bell. I believe that may have been the bus the locals told us to take. 👍🏻

    You forgot to mention the X80 bus line, which is an express bus line designed for tourists, it starts near the Cruise terminal and it goes directly to the city center stopping only at touristic locations like near the Acropolis Museum and Syntagma Square. In order to get on the bus you have to buy the "Daily Ticket" which costs 4.1€ and its valid for 24hrs of unlimited transport (its also valid for the metro, buses, tram and every other mode of public transport) or the "3-Day Tourist Ticket" which costs 20€ and its valid for 72hrs and also includes a roundtrip to the Airport on top of all the other things mentioned above.

      I'm not a big fan of the X80 bus. There's only 1 every 30 minutes and it takes much longer to reach the city center than a taxi. But sure, if you're on a budget, the X80 is a valid option.

      I am going from Acropolis to the cruise port next month. Can I buy the "daily ticket" directly on the bus? or where can I buy the ticket?

    • @GreeceExplained
      @GreeceExplained  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@stephencheung9514 Tickets are never sold on the bus. You need to buy it inside a metro station, or at one of these tiny ticket kiosks, like this one on Syntagma square for instance : maps.app.goo.gl/Mmjkepx2fGwjAPWa8

    Can you explain getting from cruise port to Athens food tour. The tour asked the guest to meet the guide in front of the small church at the center of Monastiraki Square. Thank you

    Hello, question regarding the private tour by car for 5 hours, is it possible that the pick up location will be in the port and drop off will be at the airport?

    • @GreeceExplained
      @GreeceExplained  22 дня назад

      Yes, they can do that. You just have to let them know after you book the tour. There might be a little extra fee, but nothing crazy 🙂

    Hi Sebastian, if I wanted to take a taxi from the cruise terminal to the Piraeus Metro station, just opposite the ferry terminals, would the taxi drivers frown on that option? Best to offer the Euro10 for the short journey? Comments please.

    • @GreeceExplained
      @GreeceExplained  2 месяца назад +1

      Some drivers are a little disappointed when they hear that, but hey its their job :D Just make sure to make it clear BEFORE entering the taxi. I've heard a few stories where people told the destination while the taxi was already driving towards the city center, and the driver was not happy ...
      And yes, 10€ is a good estimation :-)

    My family and I are going to Athens in August of 2025 for a cruise to Rome. We have been watching your videos and we love them. So helpful. 2 questions. 1) should we stay near the port at an Airbnb with our kids (ages 11, and 13) or in town? We will be there 2 2 full days early. 2) do you do private tours? And if so how much and how do we book it?
    Thank you
    Chris

      Hi Chris ! I'm 50-50 for the first question. If you were staying for just 1 day, I'd stay by the port. If you were staying 3 days, I would ve said the center. 2 days is in the middle of that, so I let you decide ...

    Is there anything to see in Piraeus? I am very interested in seeing the reconstructed trireme Olympias but it now seems to be closed to visitors. Our October 2025 cruise ends in Piraeus so we will end up spending about 3 more days in Athens.

    • @GreeceExplained
      @GreeceExplained  7 месяцев назад

      Not really ... Piraeus has some great restaurants and bars by the sea, it's a great place to live, but as a tourist there's not much to do.
