I live in California and I just passed my PMHNP board last December and received my new grad NP job last week: $174k and guarantee of 3% increase by next January. It is a psych outpatient clinic with both inperson and telepsych.
I’m interested in this career, but 1) I’m scared of failing nursing school. 2) I don’t want to be an RN, working in hospitals. 3) I’m not interested in being attacked by patients. 😩😩😩
So what makes you INTERESTED in this career if you don’t like the main foundation of it? Also, you don’t HAVE to work in the hospital to be considered an RN, those are just expectations they try to instill throughout nursing school. Nursing is so much more than hospital environments
1. every person joining nursing school was afraid. thats normal. Means you care. move forward with the fear. dont let it paralyze you. 2. if you want to master psych I would say it would be beneficial to work inpatient psych unit for atleast 1-2 years. also PMHNP want to see this experience (you dont need it and can get lucky, I dont like to rely on luck). you can work outpatient psych but not as many positions 3. most patients dont attack you. you have security to hold patients down if they need to be medicated and if they are aggressive. This is all part of psych experience. if you dont like it then maybe this is not the career for you. I would advise you to ask other nurses in psych about their experience with psych. Wishing you the best my friend.
That’s a really good question. I honestly don’t know. I would assume out patient/private pay/insurance. I’ll have to do some market research and see what I find.
I have a friend who sees patients in nursing homes with a mobile company for a psychiatrist in a collaborative relationship. She said she makes over 200k a year doing that.

@CowPower-513 hi which school yiu graduated?
I live in North Florida, a friend of mine works in private practice as a Psych NP. She told me not to accept less than 120k a year as a new graduate.
150
A psych NP I know in MA earns $350K per year because she has her own practice.
I love your videos is very good 😇😇
What about WHNP?

1. If you’re scared you’ll never commit. 2. Multiple RN positions besides bed side
3. They have codes to assist with this for a reason.
Sounds like this career may not be for you

Then this psych nursing or psych nurse practitioner isn’t for you.
My sister makes around 75k as a psych np. She is doing ok.
Sounds abysmal for anywhere in the USA tbh.
Why so low? Are you in a rural, very low cost area
@@cynthiaholland13 even then, there's no way anyone should take that position lol.
She's getting ripped off...omg.
I make more than that as an RN🧐
If you go with the VA you will start around $90,000
What are the highest paid sub specialties for PMHNP? More to be made inpatient or out? I’m in northern NJ graduating in a year! @davidwarrennp
