- I just got the "Official World Chess Pieces" today and this is my unboxing (Sorry about the audio, I spoke too softly). I purchased these to pair with a Certabo electronic chess board which I ordered today so I will do a follow video. I am loving the look and feel of these pieces, they have a real nice weight to them, I was a little disappointed to see that one of my black queens was damaged. I have contacted the World Chess Store to see about getting a replacement.
Update: I heard back from the World Chess Store and they will be sending me a replacement piece for the broken black queen. So great service from them!

When I joined my first chess competition at highschool, I met a seller selling expensive chess pieces with it's board and I was stunned by it's beauty and the smoothness of those chess pieces. I never knew a chess board can have such a high quality. Moving those pieces is like sliding them on the board. To me a good chest set is something like that, high quality by being durable and smooth. I bet yours is the same too. So keep it safe

Yes, it is very nice. It's been used in several world championship matches.
@@EngineVSEngine you mean, almost all of them? that is a special championship sets, and this design is the only one allowed in use on championships
@@moxemelob What? Not even close to being almost all of them, it's only been since 2013. Take a look at Fischer vs Spassky, it's nowhere to be seen. Take a look at Kasparov vs Karpov, nowhere to be seen etc etc.

The best chess set ever. Maybe i buy the DGT version of that set. Would be great to have it on my DGT e-Board USB Rosewood. Have now the DGT Timeless Weighted with the DGT Pi.

@@dieter6219 that is brilliant!! I've got mine for 180 GBP from chessbaron, used it for a while and sold for 500 Euros (combined with 55mm square Board I paid 80 euros for)
Now i am considering to buy the set again as I really miss it!

What size squares was this chessboard? I have a very nice board with 2.25 inch squares. Most of the boards for this set seem to be 2 inches.

I would think so
If the Centaur does not pick these up just put some aluminum foil on the bottoms of the pieces or order some aluminum stickers and stick them on the bottoms of the pieces. I did that with some homemade pieces and it works fine.

Did you add the electronics by taking them from a DGT plastic set? If not how did you source them?
I bought them to pair with a Certabo electronic chess board which uses electronic chips with self-adhesive backing. Just peel the adhesive off and stick them to the bottom of the chess pieces.
Nice looking set; That would appear to be different technology than DGT electronic sets (correct me if I'm wrong). I have both a wood and plastic chess set and I was wondering if I could remove the plastic electronics and do the same. But no information on this and I'm hesitant to take one a part and damage the piece. However, I might take an extra queen apart and look inside...

Are the black pieces ebony or ebonized?? Either way they look beautifull... i beluve that if all the sets there are thus us one of the mist beautufull and well thought.
I believe they are stained black. I agree with you, I love playing with this set.
Stained black because one queen was chipped/damaged and you can see the lighter wood.
For dgt centaur Is't ok?

I wonder if the Indians sell defective sets at a discount. Probably not. They would be perfectionists.
Depends. Manufacturer gets the smallest slice of the cake after duties and seller's cut. Championship chess set retails for less than 100 in Amritsar. Add in the near-perfection demands of the seller and the price rises. The sets which don't meet the seller requirements can retail for as low as 50 dollars here. Takes a very keen eye to actually spot the difference though. And that's wood. Plastic chess pieces (Staunton, triple weighted) are like 10 bucks, vinyl mat included. You can contact the manufacturer, but with the duties and shipping, you'll end up in the same ballpark, if not overshoot the price.
