- In this video we will be installing a cheap lift on the budget mud truck (2000 Ram 1500). It consists of lift blocks in the rear and coil spacers in the front.
I have jumped trucks with stacked blocks,no problems, have over 300,000 miles on lift blocks running 40” irocks, also coil, spacers and body lift,
That’s good to know if you go by what people say online you’d think axle wrap is going to come kill my dog in the middle of the night lol
How's the Axle wrap? Ujoints?
@@claudiodelcastillo893 never blew any U joints, the V10 with over 300,000 miles on still has the factory aU joints and just did the ball joints as I had 1 loose when I took it in for alignment with the new 40” tires on, but V10 ball joints are bigger than standard 60 ball joints, stick joints will fall through the holes for the HD ones it came with, part store hav me the wrong ones, went to a Heavy truck shop they had them on the shelf
Thank u so much buddy I was just about to spend 2k on a 4 inch rough country and now I don't half to thank u very much
Glad to help
Great video!! How is the ride quality with springs compressed more than stock? Gonna do this to mine.
Honestly didn’t feel much of a difference but I hardly drove it on the road with that setup, this is mostly a mud truck.
Great video thank you, bro!
No problem thanks for watching!
What’s the cheapest way to get a 4” lift on my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500
Front wheel deive
I think you may be a bit confused, these trucks never came in front wheel drive. Cheapest lift would probably be get some coil spacers for the front and lift blocks for the back but idk if you will be able to get 4” with just those.
I got a 2007 dodge ram and i wanna do something like u did i put a leveling kit to level it from the back thats all i wanna lift it to a six inch lift what do i need?
Good tutorial, just little bit faster , but thats ok 👌
Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked it!
I did this but with both lift blocks they don't line up with the holes what can I do to make thme line up
The lift blocks don’t line up with the leaf springs?
Yes how do you line them up
As long as your sure the lift blocks are made for that specific truck they should line up. Try hitting them with a deadblow so they shift a little into the spot or maybe a ratchet strap to pull it into place.
Ok thank you
Hey Sir, nice video, greetings from Mexico!
Dude I can’t get my control arms back what’s the trick😭😭😭
Strategically positioned floor jack with a short piece of 2X4 lol it’s a pita to get it aligned properly though
@@EightsGarage yeah Ive been at it for almost 2 hours where should I position the jack
@@rcmc1256 try to put it behind the diff so u can tilt the axle forward or back. Have you gotten any of the control arms on or are they all off?
@@EightsGarage i didn’t try that.! And no I just took off the top arm
@@rcmc1256 try that so u can tilt the axle and get that top mount closer
Hey so I have different front springs mine is a 1995
I think the second gens started in 1994 so it shouldn’t be too different. Is it a 1500 or 2500/3500?
Do you have the video where it playing regular?
What do you mean?
Slowed down
@@BAMABOSS2011 I do not sorry but you can slow videos down on RUclips I think in the settings.
@@EightsGarage thanks
Would yall I recommend buying a truck specifically a second gen Dodge Ram already lifted or not
I guess it depends how mechanically inclined you are and the price of the truck.
@@EightsGarage thanks for the input
Sorry i was so vague, buts it’s kind of a tough question without more context.
Lifting my ram 6 inches do I need to do anything to my driveshaft ?
I believe you may have to get it lengthened but some people get lucky and don’t.
Does yours have keys to
No keys, both the original 1500 (4x4 with the 5.9 gas engine) and the 3500 doner (4x4 with the 5.9 Cummins diesel) I used the axles and suspension parts from had coils in the front and leaf springs in the back.
@@EightsGarage do you know if that will work with keys or no
I mean the coil spacers shouldn’t work since I don’t think you have coils if you have torsion bars (what u would need a key for). The lift blocks should assuming you have leaf springs in the back.
im looking to do this but on my 01 dakota i hope its not to different than a ram lol
As long as it has leaf springs and coils it will be pretty similar. But even if it just has coils or only leaf springs you can do just blocks or just spacers on both front and back.
Not comment or question on what u did to urs but I have 2 gen dakota and my leaf springs have center pin bolt that my lift block don't allow to go thru it at all how can I go about lifting my rear end of my truck with blocks
Usually the lift blocks for the trucks with a center pin bolt they either have a hole thru them to run that pin. Or the lift block sits on top and has a little hole for the head of that bolt to sit in (which also helps to keep it from moving around).
Id love to see someone stack a leveling kit on top of a lift kit
Coil spacers with a bigger coil can be done, maybe a bit of a rough ride. Add a leaf/bigger leaf springs with a lift block can also work. Stacking lift blocks on lift blocks though can get dangerous. The bigger the lift block the more you run the risk of axle wrap, not to mention if you have multiple blocks they can shift and fall off when the leaf relaxes.
Definitely possible just won’t ride nice
A lot of people do because if you order a lift most of the time the rear and front are the same length so it will have the lean in the front without the leveling kit.
The U-Bolts in my kit aren’t long enough !! Smh. What DO I DO?
Are they suppose to fit the way you have it set up? Like are you stacking blocks but the kit only suggests one? If not then complain to who ever made the kit. Now if you are doing something they don’t want you to do then you can alway buy longer u bolts meant for a bigger block or find custom length ones.
This was A pain in the a$$. The tear end kept sliding all around and falling. Nothing lined up and now it bounces like crazy
What do u mean it kept sliding around and falling? Also excessive bouncing is usually a sign of bad shocks.
@@EightsGarage cuz the shocks aren’t long enough for the lift dummy
Lol there is always something more that comes up in every build
Sweet 👌🏻
Thanks, stay tuned theres more to come!
What size are the lug nuts? i am trying to install my 4th gen wheels on my 2nd gen truck the wheels holes on the 4th gen are a tad bigger. Should i use stock 1/2 lugs?
Honestly I’m not sure but a quick google search found me this post in a forum hope it helps.

@@EightsGarage Thank you 👍
do u need to replace shocks when doing a lift? Looking at a 3" lift
3” you can probably get away with, but your getting really close to the amount where you would need longer shocks.
@@EightsGarage Thanks... also I have a 1998 2500 w/3" wide leaf springs but can't find a lift kit that fits the back - where did you get yours?
It gets tricky when you go into the wider leaf springs. I know skyjacker has some and I am running a pmf lift blocks (you can see the install in one of the more recent videos). Hope that helps
I'm assuming this is 4wd? I'm trying to lift my 2wd 98 ram 1500. Instead of just leveling. But might be stuck just leveling.
Yea mine is 4x4, i honestly don't know what the front suspension of a 2wd ram even looks like. But i'm sure there must be some company that makes a kit for it.
@@EightsGarage 👌, thanks for the reply 👍. I think ill just level mine because you're basically the 3rd person that kinda implies all the same info. I always thought that you could "lift" any vehicle, 😆
Did some quick googling for you. Look up Fabtech, they apparently do a 3.5" spindle kit and sell coils that add another 3". Also Doetsch Suspension (which i have never heard of) makes a kit it seems. Don't forget you can always do a body lift too, its not as nice as a suspension lift but body lift with small suspension lift makes a big difference.
Where can I get something for my 05 gmc truck I need advice thank you ..
Idk anything about gmc’s but the best way to go about it is to do a google search of your trucks year and see if you can find a forum post or guide online somewhere.
Use google, that’s what it was invented for
Bravo great show
Did you use stock shocks for this
I reused the ones the truck had which were not stock, previous owner had installed them. Idk if they were longer than stock though, you can always check how much extra travel they have to see if they would work.
How bad is the handling on roads with the kit?
It’s pretty stiff but I also swapped in a lot of parts from the 3500 so it’s a bit hard to tell if it’s stiff from that or the lift itself.
What size lift is it on the front an back?
The truck came with a 4" body lift and i added about 2" lift block (rear) and 2.5" coil spacer (front). When i swapped the axles to the 3500's it also added maybe an inch to the back (the leaf spring block is bigger on the one tons) and less than an inch in the front (i believe the coils are stiffer on the one ton). So overall its somewhere around a 6" maybe 7" lift.
Used stoks shoks???
Yes, I did keep the stock shocks at that point.
How much can you at without it being an issue?
How much can I what?
@@EightsGarage lift it
@@roblacerra3257 i guess that depends what you consider an issue? I had no issues after I lifted it this much but it’s also a mud truck so my expectations are not the same as if I were to daily drive it at highway speeds. Probably anything over 4” you may have to start doing other upgrades like shocks.
@@EightsGarage do you have a link for a 4 inch?
Not really it’s kind of hard to do that since there are so many to choose from with so many options. Besides I made my own on this truck (after the one in the video).

If I get a 3 inch lift kit, do I need new front shocks with longer tubes? Or will the stock ones reach and fit fine?
You may need to get new shocks, i feel like they don't have that much extra travel in them but i could be wrong. What you can do to test it is lift up the truck with a jack around 3 inches and see how far down the tires can hang (how much travel you can get on the shocks). It's not an exact science but it can help.
You ever figure this out? Came to this with the same question
Check out this link, lots of good information there that will probably answer your question. According to the link you will need 3" lift shocks front and rear if you go up 3".
www.pavementsucks.com/threads/dodge-2nd-gen-1500-suspension-lift-information-for-the-new-guys.113830/
@@Outofluck_club yeah I actually did the lift without the shock, I put everything back together and it’s been a month and so far everything is good but to answer your question, no you don’t need to buy another shock.
What size is the rear blocks ?
Those blocks came out of a 2.5" kit but i am pretty sure the blocks themselves were closer to 2"
Did you keep the stock shocks up front?
I used the 3500 shocks up front.
Did the lift blocks ever shift or come out from stacking them like that ?
I’ve heard people online say it can happen but it hasn’t ever happened to me. I’ve been beating on it pretty hard and they haven’t moved at all.
I’ve had my plastic rough country ones slip and exploded while I was doing a burn out and also tore my ujoint out from the diff. Replaced with metal eBay ones no problems since
i’m about to do the same with a 6” lift block, my 2500 comes stock with 4 5/8 lift blocks so i’m actually only adding just under 1.5 inches
Nice! should be an easy swap for you.
@@EightsGarage actually just finished it up
it was pretty damn easy considering i had all the tools i needed.
Right tools makes everything so much easier lol
@@EightsGarage yessir! do you have an IG?
@@payloadperformance9706 yes I do @eights_garage
Hey I got a question, after u do the leveling kit u need the alignment??? I'm kind of confused u know 🤔
Probably depends on the kit you use and the truck it’s on, but most of them do suggest it. If it’s an IFS truck you will most likely need it, if it’s solid axle you may be able to get away without one.
@@EightsGarage thanks man your answer really help me u know , peace out bruh ✌
@@weezache anytime!
awesome, I'm doing the same thing. $1000 for the truck, $300 for 6" suspension lift, $300 for 35" km2s on 15x10 alu wheels, and about $400 in gaskets/machining when I did the head gasket
so the axle doesnt drop out? I'm doing it on my 2 post lift in my garage, I have 3 safety stands and a transmission jack I was gonna use to lower the axle, but looks like its held in in enough places. I'll still use them to be safe, but I didn't really see anything holding the axle housing on besides the steering, sway bar and suspension
Thats great! There’s so many of these trucks out there that everything is cheap if you have a little patience. I got really lucky with my 1500 for $700 and then I got the donor 3500 (everything but the engine) for $400. After selling all the extra parts I didn’t need from both trucks I’m basically still in the green budget wise.
Steering, sway bar, drive shaft, four control arms and coils/shocks nothing else holds the front axle. You have more than I had, I did it with a floor jack and a few jack stands.
@@EightsGarage yeah, the guy I bought the lift from was going to give me the whole roller with no body for 350 but I just don't have room for it lol
@@SamCyanide lol I totally understand the feeling, I had to strip and sell the donor truck pieces fast since it was in my driveway, probably looked like I was running a chop shop to the neighbors.
