Keith, your review is spot-on. I was hearing all the points you made, but there is no way I could have described it so well. What I hear is color at low volumes, evenness across range of pitches, very in tune and listenable in low and high registers. It has a true tenor sound and it sings. I don’t normally get excited by large bore trombones. Orchestra should not be a loud blowing contest.
I played a few models in their booth at the 'Musik-Messe' in Frankfurt a couple of years ago. They where just starting a that time.... sound wise it was already great and the build quality is also great with a smooth slide, but didn't like how it fitted in my hand. They said they were still tweaking stuff.... I guess I should go and try again when i'm in their neighborhood. :-) greetings from The Netherlands
After hearing most of your demos, I think your sound is sweetest and most engaging on this instrument. You also seem to have the most control on this. Your louder orchestral excerpts have more core on the Shires Q-Alessi review, but the colors of your sound and control/accuracy are so great on this Adams horn! I only tried one of these with the Hagmann - might need to test the Meinlschmidt version!
Thanks for the comments! I like the Adams TB1 with the Hagmann but it seems to be like the instrument was designed more with the Open-Flow valve in mind; it does a nice job of balancing the airflow into a unique valve that on other models can feel tight and stuffy but on the Adams is efficient but responsive, with a nicely open and clean sound...
Keith - Big fan from Canada! Let's fantasize for a second. If someone gave you a blank check what would you pick as your favorite large bore trombone, and what would the variables in materials be?
Adam's TB1 + Bach 5 + You = Great Sound!
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching! As I said, I think they are great instruments that deserve more attention!
