I’m going to bring in some dahlias today. They’re mostly all show and no scent, so I’ll see if they affect him 😅😅😅 I love the smell of sweet peas. I think because they’re so strongly scented Duncan convinces himself they’re affecting him, even if they aren’t 😂

Hey Dora.. thank you again. Milestone weeks for both of us ☺️🤗 I adore celeriac but generally have it mixed with potato for a peppery mash. I’m going to cut my nasturtiums back, as others have suggested, to see if they flourish again. Maybe you should try it too! 🤗

Last summer, I cut down a nasturtium because it looked done for the season. It grew back and flowered again. Wow, your compost pumpkins, glorious! I had a couple of patty pans fall over and break at work. They kept on growing with no issues, I think they repaired themselves.
Thanks for the tip Trude. Kerry said to do the same too, so I’ve been and given them a chop today. Fingers crossed it does the trick. The compost pumpkins really are trying to steal the show aren’t they? I’m so pleased with them. How clever of the patty pans to repair themselves. Plants really do want to live don’t they? ❤️

Thank you Danny. I can hardly believe that this time last year I had about 30 subs! What a whirlwind year it’s been. ❤️ I’m so glad the comfrey will forgive me. So neglected as I kept waiting for another project to be done. Never mind. It’s in the ground now. It really does feel like forever since I sowed anything! Will be greenhouse sowing this coming week.
Celeriac haircut ✅. Holy crap look at the sunflower though next to the sweet pea archway. Beautiful garden centre looks more like a park. Great comfrey but wow look at those pumpkins 🎃. As long as your vision always gives you a smile and great pleasure then it’s a win I would leave the stem it should be fine as they are still growing (as long as nutrients can still get along the stem). Thank you for the support xx The pumpkins are doing so well. I was a bit unsure at first, having been warned directly into manure may be too rich for them. They’re thriving though. I may remove the tape. Was worried about it being a weak point for slugs to attack if left open. The sunflowers have been amazing this year. I had no idea they would all throw up multiple heads after the main one had died back. Truly amazing ❤️❤️ Not sure what’s affecting his hayfever at present. He’s usually worse at tree blossom time. 33° is a temperature we can only dream of 😱❤️

@Garden-of-weeden they really are all wins! Funky carrots taste just the same as perfect carrots. As shoppers, we come to expect perfection, because the shops discard wonky carrots. Madness isn’t it? I can be so hyper focused on researching the big stuff, even if it’s just asking others like yourself for their advice/opinion, but I can be terrible for overlooking the basics and being really genuinely surprised or caught out but something I really should know already. 😂❤️

Hi Claire, you are doing so well with your garden and plants. I confess that I got a bit nervous when I saw you tying your pumpkin to the archway 😅. I have managed to break two of my pumpkins vine's (neckes) . When I broke the first one I nearly cried of frustration. When I did for the second time I got mad at myself 😢. But, they surprisingly have copied very well with the damage and has carried on like never had ever happened. 😊

I use masking tape for split stems, on tomatoes, peppers and my seed pumpkin. I figure it will break if the stem gets thick. Seems to work. I did it to the pumpkin right at the start of the season, and the one pumpkin on the plant is HUGE now.
I never thought to use masking tape. Good idea! I feel less worried about the pumpkin stem now, seems it’s quite a common thing. Thanks for sharing. What variety is your pumpkin?
Great video Clare, The pumpkin stem should be ok, i usually just use a piece of old rubber innertube wrapped around it, then a small bit of tape to keep the innertube in place. The pumpkins on the arch are doing great. Comfrey, what would we do without it ? spend a lot of money on liquid feeds haha. I normally line bean trenches, potato trenches, even holes i dig for my swede, cauli etc get a comfrey leaf in the bottom. I dont grow or even like Celeriac but yours do look nice and healthy. Glad your Daughter and Horse are doing well now Clare x

@@TheFarmyardGarden i am busy making some using creeping thistle as it is deep rooted. The plant is known to be high in fibre, protein, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, copper, and zinc. so should make a good feed and found in abundance all over our site etc. x
LOL my "trailing" nasties never bothered to trail either. I do need to trim my celeriac too. Thanks for the reminder, first year growing it so it fell off my radar. Watermelon radish are delicious, but take twice as long as the French breakfast. Really cool when you cut them, looks like a watermelon.
Oh Lordy.. we might have a frost before those radishes are ready! 😅😅🫣 I love celeriac. I did try to grow some last year, from plugs, but it was far too late in the season really. They grew but were minuscule. Really hope these ones put on some good growth for me 🙏🏻 I’ve trimmed back the nasturtiums, as per the advice, and I’ll see if they spring back in to life. Great to have comfrey next to a compost system. I have a row of comfrey in front of my 3 bin system. I let them grow to flowering stage…the bees etc love them….and then cut one back at a time into the current bin…giving me several harvests a year…whilst still giving bees a treat…can also cut to make comfrey tea or to line trenches before planting eg beans, potatoes etc as a natural feed….Jinxy
That’s a really good idea to line bean trenches with it. Thanks for that tip. I did debate splitting it and putting some by my other bins but we are debating moving those over autumn and creating an archway to the tunnel from the garden and greenhouses. Unsure yet. I can always take cuttings if we don’t do that. I love the flowers, so I’ll definitely be leaving them to flower for the bees too. ❤️
All my pumpkins have split stems 😂 If you cut back the nasturtiums they could grow back better. It worked for me last year, but I can't promise it'll work! Garden is looking fab. Celeriac envy over here!!! 😂
Ooo I’ll try to chop back the nasturtiums, see if it helps! I had no idea split stems was pretty normal. I was horrified 😱🫣 That celeriac was sown in February. I love celeriac mash and adore that they’re not liked by pests.
Duck tape in the garden is my new favourite thing 😂 one thing I usually do with squash specifically for that cracking issue is to pin part of the vine down and cover the nodes with a bit of compost. They’ll throw roots down. Means if the cracking gets worse or snaps, it’s got a backup 😊 🎃

Bridgemere seems to take all of my money! Even the top in this video was bought there. 😅😀 I haven’t covered mine this year. The boxes are just under 60cm tall and I’ve kept the carrot tops well covered with soil.
Our comfrey Bock14 is doing great the home garden. We too had a similar idea of planting it next to the compost bins. Great resource to have, without being invasive. I remember last year some of our squash plants had almost paper thin stems due to splitting, didn’t affect them producing lots of squash though. ☺️ Lovely little update. Allie & Tricia 😁🤗

I was quite alarmed when I spotted it 😅😬 I love the flowers on the comfrey too, so I’m quite excited to have it for the pollinators, as well as the multiple ways to utilise it for fertiliser. Not sure why it’s taken me so long to get around to planting it out.

Just put soil over that blemish on the stem. It might even root. Take the tape off first.
