If I was in Finland right now...ahh man....i would buy you a beer and a big steak :) Great video, and not just this one, all of them. Your knowledge is superb. Greetings from Serbia.
Wow, just wow. We appreciate your videos! This channel right here gives so much explanation about bmw's we mostly do our racing in baltics and helps putting more power into them. Giving DIY guys chance to do more with less money. Thanks alot!!
this is so good please keep these kind of videos coming. i live in Australia and am English speaking but have been watching your videos for sometime now. the subtitles help a ton but you also explain things so well :D
Thank You! sooo much great info. I have been trying to work out how to do this for a while but couldn't work out what the deal was with my Australian delivered hardware - then I stumbled across your videos, and here is all the knowledge I need!! Very much appreciated :D
You are welcome! For more information, search trough the ms41-section on RRforum and the ms41 wiki. And If you find all this useful consider donating to people who have made all this possible.
Great video thanks. I'm doing an m52tub28 swap into a 99 e46 318i sedan and interesting in mild tuning to increase rev limiter. Thanks from New Zealand.
For the ms42 what is in m52tu you will need this bit more expensive flash tool for that: chipster.no/index.php?_route_=Software/Siemens-MSS5x-Flash-Tool-MS41-MS42-MS43-MSS50-MSS52-MSS54 and you also need to convert the ms42 to use different software version if yours is wrong. Check wiki: www.ms43wiki.com/index.php?title=MS42
Hey pazi, first I have to thank you a thousand times for sharing your knowledge and experiences! Your videos are extremely informative and helpful! Whenever I build my own turbo Bmw, I will mention you in some video! I haven't had the time yet to watch all of your videos but I will have to, there is nothing more interesting. But I already know some stuff about the different M5x engines and turbocharging them. But since you are the one with the experiences... I want to build an E36 turbo. I plan on using as many OEM non-M parts as possible to keep it as low budget and fun as possible. I thought about 450-500hp on 102oct pump gas since we don't have E85 anymore in Germany. What do you think would be the engine to go with whilst keeping as many parts stock as possible? M50B25nv, M52B28 or maybe M54B30? Looking at stock internals, DME, head gasket and maybe possibility to lower CR like milling the pistons for example. What do you think of maybe M54B25/B30 or M52B28TU which is similar to M54? I think downside of M54 would be rods. But boost limited to maybe 100Nm per rod should be ok, shouldn't it? And I've read that M54 has factory MLS headgasket. Also dual Vanos and good DME. M54B30 has some problems with weak piston rings and fewer cooling passages in block due to ULEV emissions stuff, but M52B28TU would be the easiest solution for around 450-500hp and around 600Nm, what do you think? How is valvetrain, pistons, rods and headgasket in comparison to M50nv and M52? Could I keep stock camshafts and make them fit for turbocharging via Vanos setup? Thanks a lot!
Thank you for this great video. I'm learning so much my head is exploding right now :) I actually just want to turn things in the ECU "off" ABS, DSC, airbags, downstream O2 sensor etc. I have a 2000 Z3 2.8 in the USA. I assume that's in the "Control Bits" at the top of the list?
This is about tuning the ecu (engine control unit) - no such thing as disabling ABS, DSC and airbags in that because they are not engine related. There are separate control units for that which communicate with the ecu. The easy way out of this is just pulling the related fuses, but that will result in a christmas tree on the dash.
Nice video (as usual), thumbs up! As said often, avideo about fitting the E34 rear axle in the E30 would be very interesting, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's interrested in ;)
654879 5469684 Yes. We still have the medium typ188 case. But typ 210 is bolt on case now. We made the swap because at the time we didn't find proper e30 rear axle to start with.
try to modify the obd2 connector, the same way you did, but both of the obd2 connectors that I have are wired the same... you said to jump #14 and #18 on the obd2 connector, I missing something? can you please explain? where did you get your obd2 connector or do I need to rewire the obd2 connector?
pazi88 hey thank you for your very helpful videos, I'm building an s52 turbo e30 with ms41.1 dme, do you know specifically how to disable/delete immo(ews)? Thanks you for your time.
@pazi88 i wanna buy the MS41 Quickflash. But i have M52B28 from May 1995 in my E30. My ecu is flashable (ms41.0) The linked adapter KKL USB FT232RL - K-line diagnose works for newer engines. Because of that i have 2 questions. 1. Does the MS41 Quickflash work with my engine? 2. Which cable should i buy. Thx in Advance.
@@pazi88 my bmw is obd1 1992 m50nv I want to go turbo so does the stock ecu work or which one should I get?? It wasnt clear which ecu is needed for obd1 turbo car situation
That's great info! Can we disable EWS, is there a problem not running a speed sensor to the ECU? it would be great if you could do a video about swapping a m52 and using the ms41.
WickedTRX Yes you can disable ews like this. Check the control bit section at the romraider forum. And no need for speed signal if you put vss error engine speed limiter to same value as the regular engine speed limiter.
Hi Pazi88, first up thanks for taking the time to make these helpful and informative videos, I'm hoping you - or indeed anyone - can help me out with a small issue. I have the K-Line cable with the appropriate 232RL chipset. I have the OBD2 to OBD1 converter, which already came with the pins bridged, and I am using the MS41 QuickFlash program as you recommend. Anyway, I can read the maps fine, do my comparison, edit and save the map OK using RomRaider, but no changes are being made to the map. Now I am aware on the OpenMS41 site there is a page regarding enabling write access, so I am assuming this is the issue - but the instructions are a little vague. it says: 1. Locate the x20 Diagnostic Link Connector near the RH strut tower in the engine bay and unscrew the cover. 2. Use a small piece of wire to connect Pin 14 to Pin 18 to put the ECU in Write mode. 3. Use a small piece of wire to connect Pin 2 to Pin 17 to bridge the OBD2 port in the car to the ECU. 4. Turn the ignition on, and use MS41 Quickflash to read/write the ECU. So I have the following questions about that procedure... Firstly, does Step 2 have the same effect as bridging pins 14 & 18 in the OBD1 converter cable? Second, is step 3 relevant on a UK car (Z3 2.8, 1997) that as far as I know has no OBD2 port in the car? Third, is bridging those pins with the ignition off sufficient, or do I need to cycle the ignition, then remove them, then plug the cable onto the round socket? If this isn't the cause of my problem, what else am I doing wrong? I feel like I am 90% close to completing my first ECU remap but I am stumbling at the last hurdle! Any help gratefully appreciated!
I tried it last night and still had no luck with mine the quick flash gets to 99% complete when writing and tells you to turn off you ignition for 10 seconds but the map hasn't changed
Reading the map isn't a problem ive done pin 14 to 18 and got the right bmw usb plug so im not sure what im doing wrong im tuning an m52b28 with a ms41. 0 index 10
really i cant thank you enough for this valuable information..... but how can anyone choose between this and buying aftermarket ecu..... i mean what is proc and cons of both of them?
mohamed mostafa The biggest disadvantage of ms41 is lack of live tune. You have to shut down the car every time you make a chance. And also the ms41 is harder to tune than megasquirt for example. So for serious big hp build i would go with aftermarket ECU. But for milder builds that are meant to be daily drivers the ms41 is really good because it's very reliable OEM ecu.
Hi, What is “Engine Speeed Limiter (Resume Delay)” ?? What effect does it have on rev limiter and how to adjust it? I have read the romraider table description but I couldn’t understand. Thanks.
Thank you for the information. I remap ms41 to support 7k rev and I encountered a problem that the engine can rev to 7k stay in idle but when I running on the road and every time I push rev over 6k then the engine check light on and into the limp mode . Do you know how to solve the problem. Much appreciated. This car was AT to MT swapped.
can this 2 work by a e46 328i m52tub28 (europe) ? i taught i read that it has a ms42 i quess with ews ? maybe i can use a ms41 ? cause only difference is dubble vanos and disa. and great video btw !
Your current version or new upgraded one? I assume the upgraded one. You won't get it, there is a policy on the Rom raider forum, that you don't share tuned files. Reason being that you learn it yourself.
Sweet Video! Have you ever used the galleto 1260? I'm just curious because I've done everything that OpenMs tells you to do(solder the pins, software, xml file, definitions ect ect) right at this moment all I'm looking to do is log, but the tool doesn't connect to the car, any ideas?
SuppaNova2012 Sorry I don't have experience using galetto. It should at least be able to do partial reads and writes. But before writing you need to remember to calculate the checksums. (or disable those using romraider).
Hey Pazi quick question. After doing a partial write of the original file, the pops and bang and 7.000 rev limiter is not on. The write goes by the book and finishes 100%. What could the problem be? MS41.0 523i 1996 401
Hi! Very nice video indeed! Is there a way to see if an ecu was tuned before? I'd like to find out if the previous owner did some changes... Thank you!
Hello Pazi88 your videos are very informative love watching them! I have a question maybe you can answer. I have a ECU which is already mapped, however i would like to delete the EWS when i try download the map file from the ecu i get access denied by ecu B0. I have tried a orginal ecu with no map and it worked fine. I am using ms41 flash tool. Is this something you have come across?thanks
The mapped ecu you have is probably read protected. ms41 ecus don't normally come like that but I know some tuner can read protect those. And it's not really read protected as far as I know. The ecu just responds something like "locked" when the flash tool asks for ecu-id, and then refuses to read the ecu, because ecu id is wrong. At romraider forum there is busterhax -nick that has done the new ms41 quick flash program. You could ask his help if you really need to read the ecu.
Is it possible to delete/diable EWS2 imobilizer with this? Haven't found any good answers on forums, and EWS can be annoying when swapping engines with EWS into a car that doesn't have EWS wiring. :D
The new ms41 Quickflash can read and clear dtc's from ms41 ecu. And also read adaptations etc. sites.google.com/site/openms41/read-write-41/ms41-flash-tool But if you need to access other ecu's too and like airbag etc. it's better to get inpa cable and sw pack from ebay for example.
The missing auto should not trigger check engine light. Check fault codes what it's complaining about. If it's really only complaining about missing auto, you need to ews sync the ecu to ews unit from manual car, to make the ecu manual too.
Hi Pazi88, can there be any difference in the ECU map between the iron block(US) M52B28 and alu block(EU) M52B28? My wire harness, ECU(MS41.0) and everything is from an EU car which originally came with an Alu block. Now I have changed it to a iron block which I imported from US. Head and harness is from the old EU engine. Wire harness modified to support the rear mounted crank sensor. I heard that some US cars change(direct plug and play) their ECUs to MS41.0(EU ECUs) in their Iron block cars saying that they are less restrictive than US maps in MS41.1 ECUs. May be because of O2 sensors and emission regulations. So, will their be any issue if I use the same MS41.0 ECU with the same map which came with the Alu block with my new iron block? Like in the knock maps between Iron and Alu blocks. Thank you in advance for your valuable feedback.
Probaply not. The ms41 falsh tool requires "dumb" interface that just lets the tool communicate directly with the car. The tactrix cable does the communication itself so it requires it's own specific software to work. Which doesn't support BMW ECU's.
Just curious, can you read fault codes through the 16pin OBD2 connector in the car with pins 14&18 Permanently spliced together on the 20pin round plug in engine bay? I hear most people leave those wires spliced together and have no issues?
This is a useful note. I went out and bought the switch ready to make the modification then when I opened my adapter up I could see it was already shorted 14 - 18 - then I opened my spare one to check and it was also the same. So looks like most of them come already shorted and the switch is redundant in most cases.
hi pazi!! i ve been looking to your videos and are awesome!! im looking for up the rev limiter and after doing everything you did, my m52 engine still on 6500. have i done something wrong?
pazi88 hi pazi!! Today i have tried shorting the 14 to the 18 and still on 6500..more than 100 times have seen the video and im doing exactly the same but not the results.
ok, even though my #14 has a black wire, I have to jump it to #18? correct? I can put a on and off switch between #14 and #18 and that should do the trick...
Hi Pazi, love the videos. I have the partial .bin file downloaded and am having trouble deleting ews in romraider. What should I change the decimal value in the 8th byte of control bits section? It is '30' stock, I've seen other say make it '22'. Will I ruin the ecu if I mess it up? Thanks so much, coming from the US!
Nick Andersen See the text in RomRaider in properties section for that byte 8. You need to know some computer basics to understand that. But I can say the 22 is wrong value :D But you wont brick your ecu if you set it wrong.
pazi88 Thanks for clearing that up. One last thing: we were trying to learn the decimal binary conversion and modifying bits stuff yesterday and we came to 158 (If I remember correctly) does that seem right? Or is it specific to each ecu?
pazi88 Great! I really appreciate the quick replies. Hopefully it will be driving in no time! Do you have a patreon or similar where I can support your channel? :D
can i tune an ecu with index from m52b20 take this ecu wire on m52b25 head with m50 block that there is m54b30 internals and s52 cams n/a tuning will it work?
ok, so there is a place on romraider, that says properties and open that? correct and just look for byte 8. what should I change it too? that would turns off the ews or deletes it?
Sorry, in this way the immobilizer and the speed signal that reaches the ecu is canceled. I asked him why I'm doing a swap e30 to m52b25 that comes from an e36 and the car has ignition but can not start
Was wondering if I can turn off the EWS... if yes. can you tell me how? I have downloaded everything I need, but couldn't find ews....can you please help. ... Thankyou
hello i don't know if you can read this so many years after, but i have strange problem, i did it like you showed it, partial readed- no problem. when i was trying to write it, it stops on 8%-says it's done, checksums corrected and car won't start. readed ecu again and the maps are not correct, still have the connection to the ecu, looks like the program has problem or the wiring right? i wan't to add i have done one ms 42 with no problems
I was trying 5 or more times and once it stopped 8%, next 5%, other one 2%. Strange thing, earlier i have ordered kess so i am waiting for it. And have hope kess will write it with no problem
No I haven't. I use mss5x flash tool for ms42 and ms43. More info in wiki: ms43wiki.com/index.php/MS42 Also do you know if the MPPS corrects checksums? If you do any changes, it requires checksum correction. Mss5x flash tool does that on the fly.
pazi88 well due to some unfortunate circumstances you can’t purchase the mss5x flashtool anymore and it’s not available for download from what I see. I’d love to get it but doesn’t seem too possible. I’ve had terrible luck with jmgarage flasher and countless cables. MPPS seems to do checksums but I think I’d rather trust Ultimo with it.
hi pazzi just done all this to be able to switch off ews on a bmw i have just supercharged the flashtool says looking for cable and cant get it to work vagkkl 409.1 cable any help would be appreciated 🧐
HI @pazi88 it is possible to tune with this ECU turbo engine? Or there is just no way to use turbo engine without KDFI? Thx for response! Like you videos!
Hi pazi, I buy your OBD1 20 pin adaptator from your link but I don't have the switch to enable write mod ? Is it you who add the switch or it's a special cable ?
Yes, he added it. I did it myself, it's quite simple: just open it and buy an on/off switch and just put it between the bridging wire. You can take a dremel and fit the switch in the case of the cable.
MICHAEL MALDONADO Yes you can fully tune with this. You can get it fully working in turbo or supercharger setup also. The hp limiting factors will be the maf and injectors you are using.
pazi88 thanks , I plan to do a s52 swap eventually currently rebuilding one out of a 1998 m3 but it’s single vanos... the 2000 z3’s m52tu are dual vanos? I have 2 z3 cars, a 2000 2.3 (2.5) and a 2.8. Also will the software be able to delete EWS?
JuankaRDI Adjusting the RPM limiter hysteresis. It's not currently defined for 41.0 in 0.43 definition file. But it should be in next 0.44 definition file.

hi there....i have a question please...my car was a e36 320i m50 and i swap the engine for a m52b28....everythink works good...my problem is i can not read anything when i put the plug for reading problems and codes....what can it be the problem...i have done a remap and the tuner had to make everything and see everythink only direct from the ecu pluged to hes computer because he could not come in from this obd plug ....
Hi I have done the same engine swap Into my 1994 320i, but am only running with 320 ecu. How did you bypass your ews on the 328 ecu,did you buy an eprom? My donor was a 1996 328 Help appreciated John Irl
@@tangomanwx my friend i change the hole engine wire i buy it from 328i And plug in the 328i ECU... Then i send the ECU to an expert to bypass some codes So that i Can run the car with my key...
I want to know English or your language to understand this. I'm from Spain and I have a bmw e36 with the engine broken, and I follow you from the 1st video that you uploaded on how to put turbo.
thank you for sharingI'm having trouble with my romraider account activation and I need the ms41 ecu definitions is there anyway you can email me the XML or direct download link, any one can help please
try to modify my obd2, the same way you did yours, but ran to a problem. ... my obd2 is wired different. #14 has a black wire... #15 is green... #17 has a white wire with a blue jumper, that go's to #20 and #19 is red.... so my question is what do I need to do to make it work? Don't want to burn anything out lol.......
If so the colors can be anything. The 17 and 20 are both data k-lines and the obd2 connector has only one so that's why those have jumper cable. For this you need second jumper wire from the pin 14 to pin 18.
Something i want to ask you for advice and your opinion. I drive a 1997 BMW E39 with m52b28 engine, automatic steptronic transmittion. Engine is in god condition, does not burn oil, it is stil inside factory limits, runs great and smooth. I am preparing to make some changes to the engine, and a would apriciate if you have the time to help me with some advice. I am planing on changing and installing on my engine the folowing parts: Intake manifold from the M50B25, with cold air intake of course Camshafts from S52B32 and i am wondering will they fit, i know i need to make changes to the gears to fit, because they are a litle longer, but i am not sure if the valve then will hit the piston, because of much longer lift. Standard lift on my cams are: M52B28 Intake 228* 9.0mm lift / exaust 228* 9.0mm lift S52B32 intake 252* 10.2mm lift / exaust 244*n10.2 mm lift Or should a put the M54B30 cams with duration 240/244 deg and 9.7/9.0 mm lift. M54B30 Crankshaft and with this i will incrise stroke from 84mm to 89.6mm, conecting rods and pistons remain standard. Injectors are standard 250cc but should i put bigger injectors and from what engine or manufacturer? Your recomendation? In the end my friend will do ECU remap, with help of your video of course :) I am hopeing that with theese changes i will get about 250+ HP on the wheels I know this is a lot of questions but any advice from You on this project is much appreciated Thank You in advance.
s52b32 camshafts are bolt-on. I have those in the e36 shown in the video. Those are very good cams and make easily 240hp from crank and more with other mods and tuning. But getting +250 hp from wheels is just dreaming... Only thing that suffers at least in 2.8 litre engine is idle but you can just raise it something like 200 RPM. The stock pink tops are not 250cc more like 220cc or close to that. And those won't be enough for you. I did run out of those injectors with the s52 cams and stock 2.8 displacement after playing with cam timing.
Ok, so wich injectors would you put in this configuration, any recomendation? And what do you think about installing M54B30 Crankshaft to... bdw, thanks for the advice :)
Bozidar Zoric Basically any injectors that fit and have high impedance are good. I have bosch 0280150830 injectors and I have tuned the ecu for those. So if you wan't easy swap buy those and I can give you working fuel maps. I also have video coming how to tune the ms41 for different injectors. And you should definedly do the m54b30 rotating assembly swap. I also have video coming about that, but lot later and it's not going to be what people normally do ;)
I was talking with some friends and did some research. I decided not to do anytging with the e39, but to buy another car and start that as a project car. Friend of mine has a 1994 black Bmw e36 M52B25 with bad engine(overheated and blown head gasket) and he will sell it for cheap. As i said i did some research i came up with this configuration : M50 Iron Block (or maybe M52 Aluminium block, it is lighter but Iron is Iron if you know what I mean :) ) M54B30 Crank Pistons and Rods, M52 Cylinder Head, S52B32Inlet and Exhaust Camshaft, Refurbished B28/M3 'Pinktop' Injectors, M50b25 Inlet Manifold, M50b25 Throttle Body, M20 Lightweight Flywheel, M3 3.2 Exhaust Manifolds and Single 2.5" Exhaust System (No Cat). Cold air intake with performance air filter, Stock MAF, Stock M52B28 'Siemens MS41' ECU with modified calibration file. I hope that this will be god, but some things maybe changed along tha way. loking forward to see those new videos you mentioned. Keep up the good work. All the best to you :)
I cant get the new quickflash software to work, the buttons is just grey, im using a galletto cable and obd adapter where pin14 and 18 is bridged. Any guesses on whats wrong?
Hey pazi i am a little Bit confused right now. I have a 1997 e36 with a ms41.0... I wired a obd cable to the ews exactly like on the romraider Forum. Now i just need the obd cable. In Germany we have kcan, kdcan, dcan and many many other types of cables. The one that you have in your description is 1. Only for cars after 2001 and 2. Not available in germany and if i search k-line cable in german ebay or Amazon i just get some weird adapter from round 20pin to obd and one more short obd to obd cable. I hope you Can give me some clearity about all the different cables Amy help me for what i have to go with. Greetings

I did not even see anything like that, so I was insecure. thank you very much for your answer. and thank you for the videos as well, it will help a lot in the following :D
Do you have a secondary air pump and evap delete with the tune? I have us m52 swap and need to run obdii with m50 manifold . And want to pass inspection
I bought a cheap 1999 MS41.0 for testing, because my car (M52B28) is 95 and the ECU is not flashable. If I manage to disable the EWS, is it safe to change the ECUs? Like mileage differences or pinouts?
GTO You can change to any ms41 ecu. Just flash it with correct software. You don't have to disable ews. You can just sync the new ecu with the cars current ews box. And you will need to do that if there is manual/auto mismatch. There will not be mileage issues etc.
Thanks a lot, I got it working! I used your 328i Stock Tune from RomRaider :) Cant wait for future videos, it would be interesting to learn the general approach to tuning, after you installed a M50 Manifold or a set of cams for example.
Bro what kind of cable do you use I have also kkl vag cable but cant install the driver: Failed to load FTD2XX.DLL do I use the wrong cable .? Cant use ms41 flash tool now
I had read it with mpps v12 but the file is 64kb I think that isnt the full eprom file the tune. And cant open that file in romraider because it isnt bin. or hex file. Thats the reason that I wanna try ms41 tool

I am trying to make my pre excisting m52b25 ecu run the stroked and tuned m52b28 thats under the bonnet now. My original plan was to. Partial read and partial flash my friends 528 ecu into mine but noticed that his was id 41 and mine id 59 so my ecu has much less maps available. Can i still do this or will it brick the shit
@@pazi88 so can i write the full dump of -861 (id 41 i assume) straight onto it or how can it be updated other than changing the entire physical DME. And wouldnt that then affect the ews?
Just one more thing. Does the file name affect anything. I guess the VIN number is hardcoded even beyond the full flash if the EWS still works. Or does that need to be changed in hex code to match

Check wiki: www.ms43wiki.com/index.php?title=MS42
thank you for responding. ...I'll be in touch
Great walk-through! Would be awesome if you did video on SAP delete
thanks alot @pazzi88 garret turbo m52tub28 e46 is coming along here in Canada
Thank you! Great video as always. I will join the romraider forum and see if someone has anything already made for M52B25!
There is not much tuned files available. And you will get better results by doing the tune by yourself. Stay tuned and I will later show how.
OK buddy. Thanks. I shall wait for your next excellent video
Hey pazi,
first I have to thank you a thousand times for sharing your knowledge and experiences!
Thanks for sharing your knowlegde !! Very good video !!
The easy way out of this is just pulling the related fuses, but that will result in a christmas tree on the dash.
amazing video I can't wait to start my Frankenstein E39 project tuning stock ecu. I estimate ill get to about 850ft lbs of tq @ 5k rpm
DkingE39 You will need quite big maf for that kind of engine. What are you planning to use?
pazi88 planing on using the Porsche one I forgot the exact one it's suppose to be a 3.5 in diameter
pazi88 also do you know the max length to rethread head bolts on m52 iron block
Nice video (as usual), thumbs up!
As said often, avideo about fitting the E34 rear axle in the E30 would be very interesting, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's interrested in ;)
is the swap for big power builds (big diff case)?
Guess most people want it because of five lug and bigger brakes, but it's also meant to be able to handle more power
Ra Du Hopefully I have enough time in some point at least show how it looks done. I'm probaply not going to do another swap like that :D
654879 5469684 Yes. We still have the medium typ188 case. But typ 210 is bolt on case now. We made the swap because at the time we didn't find proper e30 rear axle to start with.
Can you make a video how to tune ms41 that shoots backfire catless
NICE JOBE byt whene you adepte a turbo do you need to programe the ecu
try to modify the obd2 connector, the same way you did, but both of the obd2 connectors that I have are wired the same... you said to jump #14 and #18 on the obd2 connector, I missing something?
can you please explain?
where did you get your obd2 connector or do I need to rewire the obd2 connector?
Yes I know. I have extra hole in my rear muffler :D
pazi88 hey thank you for your very helpful videos, I'm building an s52 turbo e30 with ms41.1 dme, do you know specifically how to disable/delete immo(ews)? Thanks you for your time.
pazi88 can you send me your 24kb dump so I can compare it to mine? For the turbo? Specific maf tables I would appreciate it
pazi88 how did you bridge the 20 pin connector with switch?
@pazi88 i wanna buy the MS41 Quickflash. But i have M52B28 from May 1995 in my E30. My ecu is flashable (ms41.0) The linked adapter KKL USB FT232RL - K-line diagnose works for newer engines.
Because of that i have 2 questions.
1. Does the MS41 Quickflash work with my engine?
2. Which cable should i buy.
Thx in Advance.
Awesome video! How does one tune the MS41.1 for forced induction? Can you cover that as well?
Matt Mellott Yeah in some future video.
@@pazi88 my bmw is obd1 1992 m50nv
I want to go turbo so does the stock ecu work or which one should I get??
Now I am aware on the OpenMS41 site there is a page regarding enabling write access, so I am assuming this is the issue - but the instructions are a little vague. it says:
I've got the same problem the tune wont stick to the ecu
try downloading a standard map from rom raider and see if that will stick
did that work for you then?
I tried it last night and still had no luck with mine the quick flash gets to 99% complete when writing and tells you to turn off you ignition for 10 seconds but the map hasn't changed
Reading the map isn't a problem ive done pin 14 to 18 and got the right bmw usb plug so im not sure what im doing wrong im tuning an m52b28 with a ms41. 0 index 10
Absolutely fantastic videos!
I have an ADS to serial port connector I use for inpa, would that cable work with open ms41 as well?
No the ADS cable doesn't work with ms41 flashtool. You will need usb-obd2 cable with FTDI chip like this: goo.gl/izh4wE
very good explanation!!
THX for tutorial. Can you make another video about how to tune ms41 ecu for fast deceleration "popcorn mod" ?
Hi dude, great videos, could you possibly do one on the control bits section and how to convert from decimal to binary and then back again?
Adam Bean there is websites which converts binary to decimal easily. Just google it. And the converting is pretty simple to do by hand too.
excellent video, I see in your comments about ews delete but I can't seem to find any option to do this, could you help?
really i cant thank you enough for this valuable information.....
but how can anyone choose between this and buying aftermarket ecu..... i mean what is proc and cons of both of them?
mohamed mostafa The biggest disadvantage of ms41 is lack of live tune. You have to shut down the car every time you make a chance. And also the ms41 is harder to tune than megasquirt for example. So for serious big hp build i would go with aftermarket ECU. But for milder builds that are meant to be daily drivers the ms41 is really good because it's very reliable OEM ecu.
Thank you very much
Hi,
What is “Engine Speeed Limiter (Resume Delay)” ??
What effect does it have on rev limiter and how to adjust it? I have read the romraider table description but I couldn’t understand. Thanks.
Thank you for the information. I remap ms41 to support 7k rev and I encountered a problem that the engine can rev to 7k stay in idle but when I running on the road and every time I push rev over 6k then the engine check light on and into the limp mode . Do you know how to solve the problem. Much appreciated. This car was AT to MT swapped.
Hey that round obd adapter with the switch to enable write acess) were can i find it? the link to it is dead..
The link for quickflash does not work.
Can flashing be done from inside the car via the ODB2 port if a switch is wired into the data link's 14&18 pins?
Great video! Could you make the same about ms43?
yes I'm planning to do so but I can't promise when I get those videos done.
can this 2 work by a e46 328i m52tub28 (europe) ? i taught i read that it has a ms42 i quess with ews ? maybe i can use a ms41 ? cause only difference is dubble vanos and disa. and great video btw !
How do we find the software version???
MS41.0 523i 1996 401
thanks for the video!
Hi! Very nice video indeed! Is there a way to see if an ecu was tuned before? I'd like to find out if the previous owner did some changes... Thank you!
Cosmin Rotaru There is stock roms available in RRforum. You can try compare yours to similar stock one.
pazi88 thank you!
awesome video
Yes it can be done easily with RomRaider
Can you use this for diagnostics? Reading and clearing check engine lights? If not what do you recommend?
The new ms41 Quickflash can read and clear dtc's from ms41 ecu. And also read adaptations etc. sites.google.com/site/openms41/read-write-41/ms41-flash-tool But if you need to access other ecu's too and like airbag etc. it's better to get inpa cable and sw pack from ebay for example.
I swapped my 97 e36 US m52 from auto to manual. What settings do I have to change or download to get the check engine light off and driver properly?
The missing auto should not trigger check engine light. Check fault codes what it's complaining about. If it's really only complaining about missing auto, you need to ews sync the ecu to ews unit from manual car, to make the ecu manual too.
Very nice video .
But the chipster Website is not working. What happened there ?
Thanks! The creator has died so that's why the server is down. I will do updated video with different tool later.
Thank you in advance for your valuable feedback.
so since you're using romraider for tuning would the tactrix cable work on the bmw?
Probaply not. The ms41 falsh tool requires "dumb" interface that just lets the tool communicate directly with the car. The tactrix cable does the communication itself so it requires it's own specific software to work. Which doesn't support BMW ECU's.
Hello for the socket 20 pin you have inverted pins 14 and 18 or you only connect the wire of pine 14 on pin 18 thanks
There is jumper wire between pin 14 and 18.
pazi88 Ok so if I understand well I made a bridge between pine 14 and pine 18 and I add a button on off the bridge wire thank you
mathieu tajan Yes that's right.
pazi88 thank you very much
Hello pazi to increase the engine power it is necessary to increase base injection or wot enrichment or both thanks
Only WOT enrichment. But it's already too rich in ms41 so you could even try to lean it for more power ( 10% enrichment will give must power)
pazi88 thanks
Just curious, can you read fault codes through the 16pin OBD2 connector in the car with pins 14&18 Permanently spliced together on the 20pin round plug in engine bay? I hear most people leave those wires spliced together and have no issues?
Tye Varnes Yes. No problem if those are connected.
This is a useful note. I went out and bought the switch ready to make the modification then when I opened my adapter up I could see it was already shorted 14 - 18 - then I opened my spare one to check and it was also the same. So looks like most of them come already shorted and the switch is redundant in most cases.
That's new info for me. I haven't seen adapter that has those shorted. But yeah it doesn't hurt having those shorted all the time.
hi pazi!! i ve been looking to your videos and are awesome!! im looking for up the rev limiter and after doing everything you did, my m52 engine still on 6500. have i done something wrong?
wedepeixmen Did you remenber to apply the flash voltage by shorting pin 14 to pin 18 in the round diagnostic connector/in your adapter.
pazi88 that is posibly my mistake!!✌️😉
pazi88 hi pazi!! Today i have tried shorting the 14 to the 18 and still on 6500..more than 100 times have seen the video and im doing exactly the same but not the results.
i think there are some ecus that require more work in order to write the new code - check rom raider forums
ok, even though my #14 has a black wire, I have to jump it to #18? correct?
I can put a on and off switch between #14 and #18 and that should do the trick...
He colors can be anything in those Chinese adapters. Yes you can put switch between those.
Nick Andersen That is right value. It depends what the original value is.
pazi88 Great! I really appreciate the quick replies. Hopefully it will be driving in no time! Do you have a patreon or similar where I can support your channel? :D
Is there any guides on how to convert a ms41.0 to a ms41.2?

Can you use this software to read CEL (check engine light) codes?
The tool that you need for flashing can do that: bmwtuningtools.gumroad.com/l/ms41quickflash
So i need to plan trip to Finland ?
can i tune an ecu with index from m52b20 take this ecu wire on m52b25 head with m50 block that there is m54b30 internals and s52 cams n/a tuning will it work?
What is the switch on the connector? Is that a bridge between 14/18 and 2/17 that enable writing?
Yes to to connect Pin 14 to Pin 18 to enable writing.
Pazi, I already have DCAN INPA cable, Do I still have to jam jamper pin 14 to pin 18 for read and write to my dme ?? ,,
I suggest opening it and seeing if the pins are already connected. There should be a wire bridging the two pins.
ok, so there is a place on romraider, that says properties and open that? correct and just look for byte 8. what should I change it too? that would turns off the ews or deletes it?
Yeah where the properties normally are in windows. if you change the byte 8 correctly, it will turn off EWS.
hi where can i find the flash tool?
Sorry, in this way the immobilizer and the speed signal that reaches the ecu is canceled. I asked him why I'm doing a swap e30 to m52b25 that comes from an e36 and the car has ignition but can not start
juankrider12 Yes using RomRaider, you can disable EWS and get rid of the vss error.
Okey thank you pazi, in which one menu of ROMRAIDER I be able lock the EWS and vss signal error.
thank you beforehand.
juankrider12 Check limiters and then properties for control bytes.
Was wondering if I can turn off the EWS... if yes. can you tell me how? I have downloaded everything I need, but couldn't find ews....can you please help. ... Thankyou
MICHAEL MALDONADO Check the properties for byte 8.
hello i don't know if you can read this so many years after, but i have strange problem, i did it like you showed it, partial readed- no problem. when i was trying to write it, it stops on 8%-says it's done, checksums corrected and car won't start. readed ecu again and the maps are not correct, still have the connection to the ecu, looks like the program has problem or the wiring right?
i wan't to add i have done one ms 42 with no problems
Just try writing again untill it's succesfull
I was trying 5 or more times and once it stopped 8%, next 5%, other one 2%. Strange thing, earlier i have ordered kess so i am waiting for it. And have hope kess will write it with no problem
Have you ever used MPPS? I’ve got a ms42 Dme and it reads and id’s the dme fine but I’m not sure if I want to hit the “write” button lol
MPPS seems to do checksums but I think I’d rather trust Ultimo with it.

so i ordered the silver cable with bmw inpa cd.this will work for me now?
@@xyoungyx It should. Most of those have the genuine FTDI chip.
HI @pazi88 it is possible to tune with this ECU turbo engine? Or there is just no way to use turbo engine without KDFI? Thx for response! Like you videos!
You can easily tune ms41 to work in turbo engine. You just need maf that is capable of measuring enough air and of course bigger injectors.

Hi pazi,
I buy your OBD1 20 pin adaptator from your link but I don't have the switch to enable write mod ? Is it you who add the switch or it's a special cable ?
Yes, he added it. I did it myself, it's quite simple: just open it and buy an on/off switch and just put it between the bridging wire. You can take a dremel and fit the switch in the case of the cable.
Thank you!!!! Good soft!!!
I love your videos

Keep the good work man you deserve more subscribers. Do you have any plans for diesel bmw ?
Keichi Rokodo No I don't like diesel engines :D
I hoped you had some plans :D
can you tune with this or just make small changes to your ecu?
MICHAEL MALDONADO Yes you can fully tune with this. You can get it fully working in turbo or supercharger setup also. The hp limiting factors will be the maf and injectors you are using.
My 2000 z3 has obd2 port is inside cab in console on passengers side, what cable will I need for flashing.
The obd2 cable that I have linked in description for example. And the quick flash software.
But wait. Yours is probaply m52tu. It has ms42. Check ms4x wiki for more info about that. Same cable still works.

Can you use an ms41 in a ms40.1 m50 wiring loom?
Yes. But not directly. You need to re-pin the connector.
Hello pazzi88 a great job. With the ms41.0 ecu you could get cut? Like the ms41.1 of American m3?
JuankaRDI Sorry I don't understand what you try to ask.
pazi88 How could you put an injection cut with good sound in ms41.0. sorry google translate.
JuankaRDI Adjusting the RPM limiter hysteresis. It's not currently defined for 41.0 in 0.43 definition file. But it should be in next 0.44 definition file.
pazi88 with winols or tunerpro is posible?
JuankaRDI Yes also with those if you know the adress for the hysteresis.

Is it possible to reach 350hp using ms41 1997 or it is better and easier to use a blanc ecu?
I want to know English or your language to understand this. I'm from Spain and I have a bmw e36 with the engine broken, and I follow you from the 1st video that you uploaded on how to put turbo.
You should definitely learn some English. It's very useful language and Finnish is pain in the ass to learn :D

Does the new link work?
try to modify my obd2, the same way you did yours, but ran to a problem. ... my obd2 is wired different. #14 has a black wire... #15 is green... #17 has a white wire with a blue jumper, that go's to #20 and #19 is red.... so my question is what do I need to do to make it work? Don't want to burn anything out lol.......
MICHAEL MALDONADO What are you trying to modify? The round bmw plug to obd2 connector adapter?
If so the colors can be anything. The 17 and 20 are both data k-lines and the obd2 connector has only one so that's why those have jumper cable. For this you need second jumper wire from the pin 14 to pin 18.
Something i want to ask you for advice and your opinion. I drive a 1997 BMW E39 with m52b28 engine, automatic steptronic transmittion. Engine is in god condition, does not burn oil, it is stil inside factory limits, runs great and smooth. I am preparing to make some changes to the engine, and a would apriciate if you have the time to help me with some advice. I am planing on changing and installing on my engine the folowing parts:
Intake manifold from the M50B25, with cold air intake of course
Camshafts from S52B32 and i am wondering will they fit, i know i need to make changes to the gears to fit, because they are a litle longer, but i am not sure if the valve then will hit the piston, because of much longer lift. Standard lift on my cams are:
M52B28 Intake 228* 9.0mm lift / exaust 228* 9.0mm lift
S52B32 intake 252* 10.2mm lift / exaust 244*n10.2 mm lift
Or should a put the M54B30 cams with duration 240/244 deg and 9.7/9.0 mm lift.
M54B30 Crankshaft and with this i will incrise stroke from 84mm to 89.6mm, conecting rods and pistons remain standard.
Injectors are standard 250cc but should i put bigger injectors and from what engine or manufacturer? Your recomendation?
In the end my friend will do ECU remap, with help of your video of course :)
I am hopeing that with theese changes i will get about 250+ HP on the wheels
I know this is a lot of questions but any advice from You on this project is much appreciated
Thank You in advance.
s52b32 camshafts are bolt-on.
As i said i did some research i came up with this configuration :
M50 Iron Block (or maybe M52 Aluminium block, it is lighter but Iron is Iron if you know what I mean :) ) M54B30 Crank Pistons and Rods, M52 Cylinder Head, S52B32Inlet and Exhaust Camshaft, Refurbished B28/M3 'Pinktop' Injectors, M50b25 Inlet Manifold, M50b25 Throttle Body, M20 Lightweight Flywheel, M3 3.2 Exhaust Manifolds and Single 2.5" Exhaust System (No Cat).
101088kaka Galetto cable doesn't work. You need to have obd2 cable with ftdi chip inside. For example one that I linked in description.
pazi88 what About the mpps v13?
101088kaka No idea. And who cares, because those cables with ftdi chip can be get for even few dollars.
Its Because I need One right now and i Know somebody who got mpps cable😁
Greetings
Covarix as said the cable in the link is tested to work.
pazi88 But Not available in germany:(
Do u need flash voltage to read the partial? I keep getting an error when trying to read it saying access denied by ecu
No you don't. Are you sure your ms41 can be flashed? have you checked the ecu number?
yeah its an ms41.2 from a 1998 US M3. It has been tuned by a tuning company before, is it possible that the company encrypted it?
Jonathan Youssef Yes it's possible. Some commercial tuners make their own code so that it can't be read.
hello. I have 5WK9 0322-R ecu. Can i tune this ecu like you? It hasn't "index xx". And what is the R? Thank you for your answer.
What is the part number? The one that is 1 432 401 in my ecu for example.
The part number is 1 429 999. the engine is m52b28.
The sticker as it is: www.google.hu/search?q=siemens+1429999&rlz=1C1GGRV_enHU751HU751&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=M6WbcpiriTa4SM%253A%252Cq_FxCOO1H5wn0M%252C_&usg=__4LAJapW2aWTFU_H7aeNS5L52y9s%3D&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjTlYPUydjaAhXQ2qQKHZ9dD7gQ9QEIKzAB#imgrc=M6WbcpiriTa4SM:
Alex Pàmer Yes that can be flashed. It's bmw replacement unit that I have not ever seen myself.
JeLani Thrower No but you can delete those by yourself in rom raider.
pazi88 and if I were to do that and add m50 manifold and tune , plus a check engine light feature , would that trigger the light?
JeLani Thrower No if you do it correctly.
will any obd2/usb adaptor work if i bridge the pins myself and have the 20 pin adaptor?
Not all. It should have FTDI FT232RL chip inside.
pazi88 Thanks for the response! Can you make a video on two step launch control using this? And turbo tuning would be awesome too!
Thanks for your answer! I will try that :)
Cant use ms41 flash tool now
Abdullah Demirkan Do you have cable with ftdi chipset? The tool won't work on cables based on CH340 chip.
I saw the ftdi mark but not sure what kind of Numbers let you know
Abdullah Demirkan Check the usb to serial com port driver properties in device manager. it should say something.
I had read it with mpps v12 but the file is 64kb I think that isnt the full eprom file the tune. And cant open that file in romraider because it isnt bin. or hex file. Thats the reason that I wanna try ms41 tool
Abdullah Demirkan 64k files are for ms43
Hey PAZI!
Quick question.
I can’t open full read files in romraider.
I can only open Partial.bin
(1429861) e39 523i
Yes that is on purpose. Full read files aren't meant for tuning. Partials only.
@@pazi88 Thank you for quick answer!
What are the full reads for then?
@@oscararnesen699 Full reads store the program code and other non-tube related info, so only needed if you want to do changes there. Usually used to change software version. But you have the newest for ms41.0 anyways.
@@pazi88 Thanks again.
Is it possible to make launch control on MS41.0 or do you have to convert to MS41.2?
Last question,
Can you put (1429861) DME code onto a (1432401)?
Or is that a no go?
I am trying to make my pre excisting m52b25 ecu run the stroked and tuned m52b28 thats under the bonnet now. My original plan was to. Partial read and partial flash my friends 528 ecu into mine but noticed that his was id 41 and mine id 59 so my ecu has much less maps available. Can i still do this or will it brick the shit
Nope you can't. It will brick it. Id59 (-373) isn't very good anyways. Update it with -861 full read and tune it.
@@pazi88 so can i write the full dump of -861 (id 41 i assume) straight onto it or how can it be updated other than changing the entire physical DME. And wouldnt that then affect the ews?
@@ukkomies100 yes with chipsters ms41 flash tool or ms41 flaah tool. Both can do the update. EWS still works
@@pazi88 thanks🤟
Just one more thing. Does the file name affect anything.
I guess the VIN number is hardcoded even beyond the full flash if the EWS still works. Or does that need to be changed in hex code to match
