    Excellent info. Pay attention to the available power. At the extreme, 40km or 25 miles beyond 0 km, if you keep speed limited to 30-35 km/h, or, 20 mph. Would never want to be in that position, but, very valuable. Add the 5.1 kWh to the 80 kWh you measured. Close to claimed 87 kWh useable. Thx, Bjorn! Time for wifey and baby.

    On my 30kWh Leaf the heater works till the end, I actually tried where the Leaf says NO MORE, parked in the garage emptying the last 1kWh (leafspy) with the heater/heatpump and it went down to 0,3kWh when it disconnected the EV battery.
    Tried it at 4 years and about 55k km

    The Ariya did about as much as you could have asked for (short of creating energy from a vacuum). I had decided against the Ariya given the poor efficiency at high highway speed, but this kind of predictable safety at the bottom of the pack changed my mind. Well done Nissan!!!

      Ha. So it is! I'm sitting in my 2011 Leaf typing this. Didn't spot that before. I had a 2018 Leaf and can't remember if it made the same noise but it probably did. (Got this one cheap whilst evaluating next longer range EV. Test drove an Ariya and it is very nice except the haptic controls.)

    • @Narcissist86
      @Narcissist86 2 года назад +7

      Technically this is an integer or arithmetic overflow, where you perform some arithmetic past the limits of the variable and the value wraps around.
      Buffer overflow refers to something written outside of the memory allocated to the buffer. This may or may not be the case here since integer overflow can occur without buffer overflow.

  • @ManfredvonHolstein
    @ManfredvonHolstein 2 года назад

    Nice demo but we all know that an EV will run a bit beyond 0% on the dashboard and the question is really how far. That said it should be quite easy to figure out using an OBD dongle. That will tell you what the actual SOC is vs what the dashboard says. And then the real question is whether the 87kWh usually charge is the charge to get you to the real 0% as per OBD or whether it is for 0% per dashboard. I suspect the former, and that 4kWh is simply never accessible to protect the battery in any circumstances.

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  2 года назад +2

      No, not all EVs can go past 0 %. Some cars even stop with 1 km indicated range left.

    • @ManfredvonHolstein
      @ManfredvonHolstein 2 года назад

      @@bjornnyland , OK but my point is that it is easy to check that with an OBD scanner. It will tell you whether the dashboard shows the real SOC percentage at which the car operates or some faked figure. Therefore you would also know how far you can still go if the figure was fake. No need for testing this (and chickening out at the end).

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  2 года назад +3

      Not easy yet since LeafSpy doesn't support Ariya. And even if I used CarScanner or something else, as the tests here shows, the claimed kWh left is not always correct.
