South Africans are blessed to have a very strong culture of talking through very very tough subjects. Nothing is taboo. I lived there most of my professional life and I learned so much about this quality.

Great discussion. I believe we dont see this enough and citizens act on emotions but when people come together things work.

Anglo Boer war was a war of thieves fighting over the territories of stolen land from natives. Africa belongs to Africans all of it not in parts as Europe belongs to Europeans all of it not in parts. What l see here is that Thabo is very happy to talk to whites instead of talking to Pan Africanists of AZANIA as he never did. They laugh together but never with another black liberation movement

Either Mbeki, Mandela or de Klerk. Sadly the last two named are dead already. So Mbeki would save South Africa.

"Sanctions should be reserved for serious situations." FW de Klerk has time and again expressed his view that "there was nothing wrong with apartheid." In his statement in the conference he's shown that he doesn't think that apartheid was "a serious situation."

What do you say that an unqualified one man one vote democracy is a disaster in a society of great inequality and that it is capable of being manipulated to the detriment {as in the case of SA) of social progress. Our institutions of state has all but been destroyed. In 30 years the governing party have been unable to put in place a first class educational system which a priori resulted in the economy remaining firmly in the hands of 2% of the population. And the architect of this failure is Mr Mbeki and his apparatchiks. They could try and blame it all on Zuma but the rot started under Mbekis watch. That will be his legacy, of being a poser. Pres.Mugabe on the other hand produced a first class civil service and built on the educational institutions inherited from the previous ruling class. Only for it to be destroyed by western sanctions following Britains reneging of the terms of The Lancaster House agreement by refusing to pay compensation for land reparations. That will be the legacy of Pres Mugabe whether one likes it or not.

Mugabe killed his own people in Gukurahundi. After that he killed the economy of
Zimbabwe. For this reason you are in South Africa.

Well the way i see it. Affirmative action poses both a negative and positive impact on out country, in the sense that many white skilled workers are being rejected which poses a wide spread threat to the economic structure of out country and where our black people benefit in the sense of employment but causes a slow economic growth in our country, i think affirmative action has run its course already

Wow, in 2020 this is a great diagnosis. Just maybe we’d need to attach a solution or practical way forward to it. The future isn’t obvious to me at all.

Similarly black emancipated slaves who fought in the USA civil war are not so significant in that civil war. A racist connotation see you no matter how much you assist him or her in achieving his or her goals. They are never grateful

Mr Kruger We're obviously weren't listening to the same thing now were we? We missed the crowd heckling at him. Which questions were those by the way. What you missed is the fact that Mbeki not only answered questions posed to him but further elaborated to allude to the reasoning behind it all.
