      Greetings from Yacolt Washington near Mt. St. Helens. Now that I’m retired I’m going to grow more. I’ve been taking horticulture classes since I was 12 through college and I never had enough time so now that I do I’m going to learn how to grow apples like they do in Yakima and Wenatchee. Great video, keep up the good work!

    Great info, especially on needing 2 different varieties. The lady at the nursery told us you need 2 pawpaw trees to produce fruit. She forget to mention 2 different pawpaw trees, found out later and by then they were sold out. Still waiting for them to come in this year. I did get 2 fruit cocktail trees this year, one with plums and peaches and the other different varieties of apples.

    Sounds like I need a crabapple tree, is there a variety that grows well in south texas that has fruit also? What is better about white flower over pink?

    • @MelissaKNorris
      @MelissaKNorris  4 года назад +2

      You want a white flower crabapple for pollination and you'll have to check on your chill hours where you're at and then search for varieties armed with that info.

    I am wanting to put in some fruit trees this year. Our ground is so rocky we can't dig in it so have put in raised beds for the garden. I am thinking of doing the same thing for some dwarf trees. How far apart do you think I should plant them.

    • @MelissaKNorris
      @MelissaKNorris  4 года назад

      For dwarf I'd try to have them 8 to 10 feet apart

    • @RoseFelton
      @RoseFelton 4 года назад

    I'm still trying to figure out why my apple trees and peach tree will flower, but I have 3 cherry trees that wont even flower and goes straight to leafing out. I'm stumped. All those trees were planted 3 yrs ago at the same time and in the same area of my property. Zone 5, central Iowa. Any ideas? I know they will take a while produce fruit, but, they should at least flower.

    What apple trees would you suggest for Oklahoma? I just bought a 32 acre farm and have 12 acres of pasture that currently has native grass. I want to plant about 3-5 acres of various apple trees.

    I’m interested in trying apple cordons. I know those require spur-bearing varieties, but I can’t find a good resource for a list of spur-bearing varieties. It’s even difficult to find that info for a specific variety at times. Do you know of any resources where I can find that?

    We moved into a property that has two apple trees. They have not given me fruit that I can use to identify the variety. But I want to make sure they can cross pollinate, and buy another one this spring if needed. How can I find out what variety they are? Also, we have a crab apple about an acre away. Is that close enough to pollinate?

    • @MelissaKNorris
      @MelissaKNorris  3 года назад +1

      Ideally pollinating trees would be within 50 feet of one another and it needs to be a white blossomed crab apple variety
