Best British barber I’ve came across on here, the way he uses the open blade no guard and you can see the fade instantly,. Also the technique he uses to blend the highest part round the sides by coming down with the shaver. Very precise and informative work...
I've been cutting my own hair for almost 10 years now(I go to stylists once in a while to compare my work with theirs). I have the same equipment found at any high end shop(Andis bgrc with metal blades, Wahl 5-Star, Joewell Classic shears..etc). In some ways cutting your own hair is easier than you think and in other ways its harder. Make no mistake, understanding all of the nuances that goes into a cut is difficult because everyone's hair and skull is different and its the reason why the best stylists are sought after because they fundamentally understand how this all works together. Everyone shows different amount of scalp exposure and some people's hair show imperfections in fades much easier. Some of these RUclips channels have Swedish guys with flawless hair genetics that Stevie Wonder could probably cut and look decent. Most of us fall into the other part of the equation where our hair really need careful attention or the cut falls apart much easier. Your biggest hurdle for cutting your own hair will be getting a really decent three way mirror and correct sufficient lighting to spot dark spots and lines in your cuts for where you need to blend out. It's not simple and even though I'm doing it for a long time it's difficult to do many things like low bald fades(they can be done but it's a slow process or you'll mess up). I'd recommend most people to go to a stylist unless you really like doing it yourself or you don't care about imperfections and want to save money.
So what are the basic high end equipment to do haircuts like this easier? I've been cutting my own hair for a year now and attended a couple of barber classes... I used to have the andis masters and the andis styliner2 for the edges. Now I only have a couple of aids t outliners and and old classic andis with adjustable blades ( not the masters) what else would you recommend...
Cool, you're entitled for your opinion. but lets face it that the first cut is a taper, and he specifically asked for a skin fade haircut. Its quite different haircut for the side.
Your blending technique for the back and sides was fascinating. I've been trying to cut my hubby's hair at home (at his request - I am NOT a hair stylist) and the blend is the one part I find the most tricky. Going to try your technique today!
The first haircut he had with his mid fade was legit good just needed a clean cutt , the new hairstyle he got is quite nice but it was so high if he could go a bit lower with the fade would look even better , nevertheless really good barber.
Struggling with the accent a wee bit at the start… Re: the “high” and “low” top chop texture. You said to only do it for “fine hair” or NOT to be done for Fine Hair? (I have uber fine full hair so kinda makes a huge difference what your answer is to that Q!) - Cheers.
Dan you're one of the most under rated barbers in the haircut game, I discovered this channel through a recommended video while watching beard brand and I don't regret it... 👊🏻
Ben Jensen Beardbrand does feature a couple of cold barbers who would give Dan a run for his money but the majority of those guys can’t hold a candle to Dan.
@@shadysheister exactly man, if I ever travel to the UK to get a haircut I would go to dan not beard brand, I've seen one or two videos with tourist getting a haircut there and the look on there faces says it all after the hair cut
Ben Jensen Lol yeah Beardbrand doesn’t feature the best British barbers for sure. Dan is an actual master of his trade and I’ve never seen a video of his where the client looks anything less than ecstatic.
@@shadysheister exactly man! the main reason there channel is even popular is for the guy Greg Berzynkie that's why other then that shitty british barbers, Dan is the master and hope he gets more recognition
Ben Jensen that channel has also been around for a while too. They have some great barbers on there who are very wholesome people, but Mahesh and his gang at the shop come off of as obnoxious and snobby. They seem to think they’re the shit at barbering so their skill level just stagnates instead of improving.
If clients understand your work and also help them to have a better look, you should imagine what these videos mean to barbers! You don't imagine how much we've learned from this channel. Keep the good work!!
100% Duncan! Just run your fingers through and will be as good as new. Cold on the back and sides may be a bit of a shock when you first walk out of the shop though haha
@@tylertilla4654 I say middle skin fade (not high, not low) and on top short and choppy (messy). not too short, maybe long enough if want to part it to the side i can, but short and texturized. Feel free to show your barber the video too, or at least a picture of the finish product!
@@tylertilla4654 the guy in the video seems to have a high fade, so if you like that much, say a high and tight skin fade. i get mine a little bit lower so i say mid skin fade. hope that helps!!
Good attempt and Yes the first cut had more weight and suited the face much better you have to understand not to take to much hair off and get carryed away and also to cut the hair to the shape of someone's face if it's round or long or ovil ect , This is when a experience hair Barber stylist comes in and will edvise you what best for your head shape 👍
I’m a barber student and my teachers are so happy of how I’ve developed in these 3 months with them and it’s because of their help and your videos Dan! Thank you for the awesome haircuts and the explaining because it really helps a lot, I love barbering! Wish you the best and hopefully in 2020 I can get a haircut from you I Liverpool!
Regal Gentleman You seem like a very polite, respectful yet normal, down to earth man. Someone I’d enjoy being friends with. Is there anyway you could come to my house to cut my hair? I’m not that far. I live in Texas, USA. About 2 1/2 northwest of Houston. LOL!! Just kidding brother. Seriously, you do seem like a genuinely good person. Keep up the good work.
I have followed tutorial after tutorial and this is the one that helped the most in cutting my husbands hair! Thank you for sharing this content. His hair came out looking so good!!!
Great video , I started cutting my own hair , so if you could make a short video of step by step of how to make this fade work . Ie. Step 1. separate Hair with parting Step 2. Get marking in place just above eyebrow for high fade .
What is the length of the hair at the top? Whenever I get this haircut in the middle just before the fringe it always comes to a point sticking up which is annoying
Hi Danny, I know this video is a bit dated but I need some help. I've had a buzz cut for as far back as I can remember and I'm looking for a new style. I love what you did here and I'm hoing to pay that bit extra to escape my usual barber and see a stylist. What do i ask for i don't know where to start? Thanks for any help 🙏
The second hairstyle makes the dude look more masculine and rugged but also made his face look fatter. He also seemed to age by about 5 years towards the end. The hairstyle looks good but I reckon he should've done a lower, tapered fade and kept the front a little longer.
I feel like these fades work better for men with thicker beards. I personally would keep it a bit longer on the sides for myself, but great instruction.
This kind of haircut will grow even better looking after 2 weeks. Dan is looking into the future. He is a master. I felt like he is the Gordon Ramsey of haircut game.
no, it won't. if you go for skin fade you go for it because you like how it looks and the idea is to go for a new haircut after 10-14 days at max to keep it fresh.
Who is the brunette with? Dan or the camera guy? I always see her sitting but wasn't sure if she was a client or not till I saw her hovering over u guys. Nice cut by the way.

Actually think the first cut looked great...that was perfect length. Good info though.
Agreed. He just needed it cleaned up a bit. I think he settled for the skin tight fade because the Barber talked him into it.
I AGREE👍
Dan is the type of guy I can sit and relax completely in his hands knowing that he'll do a great job! :)
