We cant let this place go too! Make sure you sign the petition! A link for the petition is in the description of the video! sign it and share it with all of your friends and encourage them to the petition as well!
Been coming here for about 22 years. My 13 year old just starting racing here last July in the Jr. Spec. Late Model series. This is such a shame that the track is closing. We are hoping and praying that some how, some way it will be saved!
We love JAN! He came on as one of my first sponsors, and I work with his ARCA team. He's one of the most genuine people in the world. And someone I look up to on a daily basis.
It would be wonderful to keep this place open. Good family fun. Lots of history. Nothing in the area with the same appeal. Sure hope they find a way to keep it open.
I grew up going to saugus and measa merin and when they shut them down I started going to irwindale and it brings back memories from me going to saugus with my family I don't want to see such a nice place get torn down and get replaced by buildings
Came here in 2022 for Formula Drift, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Sucks its closing, just imagine a kid who knows they got huge talent in the sim, knows a load about working on cars, has a huge passion for this sport, but parents dont have the funds to go anywhere to get to know the people in racing. Another breeding ground for the next Jimmy Johnson gone. Incredible isnt it?
My family and I love this track, we raced there for a while on the WCPT and go there multiple times a year, we hate to see it close down. What can we all do to save it?
In the description of the video there is a petition, Sign that petition and than share this video with all of your friends and family and ask them to sign the petition as well. They too should also share the video with everyone they know and encourage them to sign the petition too. The more exposure we bring to the video will show the demand and importance of the track in the community and the racing world! With more exposure we will have better chances on saving this track!
just signed the petition and shared with my friends! California hates the car culture and anything related to it! You would think a big oil company would sponsor and save the track since the directly benefit from it being open and its just a write off for them!!!!!!
I pray we can save it again it is a little jewel in the racing community and supports so many people a place to enjoy our sport of racing and car enthusiast keeps kids off the street I just went to the Nitro revival and moonrise Christmas parties coming up for the last time it’s so sad. It’s going to be tough this time. Amazon is going to build a warehouse there.
This is another legendary speedway being taken down due to money grubbing humans ! I'm from Victoria BC Canada and we lost our track 😢 Western Speedway ! started in 1950 (dirt) the original track was Langford Speedway (asphalt) started around 1932 ? this track only ran the BIG CARS ! Indianapolis 500 cars !!!!! so thats a lot of racing now gone ! VERY SAD I hope you guys can save your beautiful place !
Good luck, I've never seen a petition save a track in CA. Even a very successful track in Fremont CA was closed by the city and the land sat idle for many years. Remember there are only a few privately owned tracks in CA, I can think of 3. Californians HATE racing, in fact they hate anything to do with the outdoors. Californians race home to watch TV and and complain about what everyone else is doing, that's it.
I didn't notice the name of the company that owns the racetrack. In something like this, having a contact person to reach out to and register your opinion could be helpful. Seems to me Company X could call it Company X Racetrack and use it as a marketing/advertising write-off every year while saving a piece of California Car Culture. Having a Hollywood studio -- or a collective of studios -- purchase the property is a great idea. But property developers -- if that's the owner -- tend to be greedy lot and likely wouldn't sell for the actual value; nobody wants to make money more than a developer, not even Tinseltown. It's a great track. A shame that Roger Penske doesn't buy it and make it the Bristol of the West.
I worked and raced there for many years until it closed the first time. Can thank the slimy gm for that one. I am honestly surprised it has survived this long. Short term/ single year leases dont really bring confidence to racers, sponsors, and investors. The track is built on a landfill that is compacted wrong or filled with unstable materials or something like that. Supposedly only certain things could be built on the land but i am sure money will change that if it hasn't already.
You can't change an owners mind with emotional memories. They will turn that place into giant empty warehouses just like they did right next door. I used to go to speedway races there and was pit crew for a late model racer in the late 90's. I still remember Saddleback Park and Carlsbad Raceway. Sorry to say ... just another casualty of greed. Welcome to the new SoCal. You asked for it, here you are. BTW, I think Willow Springs is still considered Southern California.
The majority of the California's that complain about racing are not actually California's they're transplants usually from the East Coast. The majority of true native California's truly enjoy racing born in 1953 I watched every decent racetrack close Only to become new housing tracks for developers and there greedy pockets. New home construction is way down in California so they're doing anything they can to free up land. That's the reason Irwindale Is doomed one more time. If we lose it I guarantee it we'll never see another drag race or decent drag strip in Southern California currently we have to go to Palmdale and I'm sure that 1 is on the best for demise as well. Sorry for my gloomy outlook but I've seen it too many times.
Sorry to say that your banging your head against the wall. I was one of several drivers to test this track before it opened. Back then it looked like a good place to put a track because nothing but rock pits was around it. But it suffers from the same thing all the other racetracks in southern California do...encroaching public. I race at Saugus when it closed, I raced Cajon, and it closed, I raced Mesa Marin and it closed. Hell, the closest thing to Mesa Marin was a cemetery until they built a housing track across the street, but in all cases people would move in and then complain about the noise. I'm actually surprised Irwindale lasted this long. I knew this place was going to be shut down as soon as they started shortening the last race of whatever class was racing last due to a noise curfew, that started early 2000. Ascot, Ontario, Riverside, and California speedway were all closed because the land was so expensive not due to noise issues. Sorry, but this place is history.
Orange show speedway in San Bernardino maybe shutting down as well. And it's been around since 1947. Being a motocross racer since I was 8 and now 35 our community in California has seen this same issue. Saddleback MX, Newport Dunes, Carlsbad Raceway, Milestone MX, Piru, Zaca Station, Lake Elsinore, Starwest, Racetown 395, Competitive Edge all closed in SoCal. Southern California went from the epicenter of moto to only having maybe 6 tracks now. California was built on racing cars and bikes and it's losing it's soul to greedy politicians.
Racetracks in Southern California cannot survive because the land is much more valuable than the track. Every track has closed and even Willow Springs is for sale. The Huth family wants to move from racing. It will take someone rich who loves racing. The problem is there is already a private track in Thermal, CA with an airport close by for private jets. The Billionaire Roger’s family own that tract and they sell memberships at fee of $175,000 with monthly dues of $2000 and you can build a home next to the track if you like at a min cost of $5,000,000. Everything there is high end and close to Palm Springs so there is golf close by for the rich too. You can pay from garage space too. This takes away the kind of rich buyer who wants to buy a race track. I know Irwindale is an Oval so that makes it hard too. I hope some NASCAR lover does buy the track.
Crew chiefed a spec truck and we raced there alot and Mesa Marin.....hate to see these tracks gone. But cali has all but killed hot rodding and racing in the state. No one will watch tesla race as they done make any noise and its boring. So jealous of other states that still have racing, hot rodding, and race tracks.
And then houses will populate the area, rich folk will BUILD THEIR HOUSE NEXT TO A RACETRACK AND THEN HAVE THE AUDACITY TO SAY "Oh my gosh I cant believe theres noise, we should do all we can to shut this track down, I havent been selfish enough lately, " WHO KNEW THAT RACETRACKS MIGHT MAKE NOISE DUE TO, wait *checking notes* RACE CARS!!!
Tracks close because the land is worth more than the $ the track makes. And don't say " rich " people need to lose $ " for the love of racing " . Having lived through the dying days of a small asphalt oval, too many racers feel they should be paid $$$ to race rather than what is typical in small time road racing PAY to race. Spectators are the ones that make $ for the track, if you don't spectate, buy stuff at the burger stand, tracks will close.
I wish that was the case for this track. This track is very much alive, could have probably used some more grandstands in turns 1 & 4. Idk if you have been recently but the people show up and support.
If there is a petition I wonder why these RUclipsrs that go there don’t announce this petition I’m sure there is huge portion of their viewers that go there and don’t even know there is a petition to save it
I thought it was a done deal and they were building an Amazon warehouse on the property. I was down there for Nitro Revival a few weeks ago to say goodbye to the place. I wish you luck, but it sounds more like a money deal than anything.
Highly highly doubt the track will remain open .. The new owners stated they are going through making this area an industrial area. I think we should focus our efforts on Pomona and keeping that alive before we loose that due to money issues too.. Used to do the street legals there in the early 2000’s and with some help we can let it be known
Yes , if you wat to help me, I’m trying to build my race track in the desert 🏜 California north on m Irwindale event center,, if anyone wants to get that equipment and fencing and seating ans Krails, and cable, , get with me and we will transplant, the track, ok out here in the desert 🏜 , thanks BigAl California praise Jesus Christ grace amen praise Jesus Christ amen amen
The owners of the property have madeit impossible to keep as a race facility. They have raised the cost of keeping it as a race facility by double in one year. The only way to save this track is for someone to step up and pay the blown up real estate price. Other than that, it just won't happen.
We need In N Out to come save the track. They are racers, they have the resources! We need to save our only track!
THE LEVEL OF GREED IS UNREAL NO DRIVING NO GOLFING NO ARCADES NO GOCARTS TRACKS ALL GONE
We cant let this place go too! Make sure you sign the petition! A link for the petition is in the description of the video! sign it and share it with all of your friends and encourage them to the petition as well!

Dont forget Jay Leno was riding in the Hemi Under Glass when it flipped.
Then he went down last weekend and looks all beat up.

There is Kevin Harvick Kern County Raceway!
Beautiful track. Only issue its 125 miles north of Irwindale. just a little out of the way.
@7170brothersracingteam Try driving to Lost Wages it's even further 😀
Cleetus mcfarland needs to go ahead and turn this into the freedom factory west coast
Not even your "GOD" Cleetus can save it.
Yes someone get Cleetus on this.

I’ll sign the petition. This is such a shame.
Bring the petition to every freaking city so people can sign it, including me!

Especially the Progressive Liberal lawmakers up in Sacramento

Better to spend your time, working towards a new track somewhere in the far out sticks. with a moat around it.
Breaks my heart seeing this video

Another closure, LA lawmakers cannot see the benefit for places like this. Now it will move to the streets
That is what we are trying to prevent!
Signed

the lease holder of the property is going to reopen up in Bakersfield just north of the 5/99 split..

Or you could build a track on cheaper land nearby in the high desert.
They need Pomona to open up again or have Irwindale speed way build a 1/4 mile in the IE somewhere
