I literally just built my first ever Oblits yesterday. I love them but I hate their metal diapers so I had to bash them a bit to have at least loincloths.Anyway rambling aside, a fun coincidence! I love the video!
Very nice conversion and paint scheme ! I like the flesh texture a lot, but I would say the cable on his arm looks a bit thin. I will definitively try out this flesh cable method !
Thanks! I felt it was a little small as well but it also was the only size of cabling that really matched the connection points in terms of wire diameter. My other options were too big and too small so I was hoping the flesh would help sorta like, make it fit in? But hey, still learned something pretty useful from it I suppose lmao

Ngl, I'm still baffled by the fact we not only never got a proper solo kit for the Obliterators (they are still literally part of the dark spear box sprue with the venomcrawler) but also by the fact that GW didn't make the obliterator a dual kit with mutilator.

I do have a fondness for when Chaos Space Marines are all flesh-horror-y. I messed around with various glue mixes while working on turning a Contemptor into a quasi-Helbrute and had a lot of luck with a mix of Uhu glue and regular ol' white glue - it can do the same stretching as Uhu glue but dries pretty solid, there's one part in particular that turned out really well.
That kinda goopy E6000/Uhu glue is a glue I dont normally have so I haven't played with it much. I've seen it used pretty well for drool or sticky gore strings though. Maybe I'll pick up a pack lol

I like the various textures you got with the glues, the modpodge over the cable wouldn't work as a rubber/plastic sleeve but works great as flesh and the two glue soup made some nice gross flesh that would probably look good for the bases of either a demon or tyranid army. Have you played around with Gell Super Glue and baking soda? If not it gets a very fun rippling sand texture, and as a bonus bit's of egg shell put into the glue before you dump on the baking soda look like bits of pottery.
I guess I should've clarified as in the general pattern. Lotta spots and stripes, but maybe I'm just being too quick to jump ship. That being said, I really do love the idea of someone wearing snake print in this army so I'll probably still do that. Or both to some degree lmao
I was today years old when I discovered that there was a melee-specific version of Obliterators. I haven't played for about 20 years, but I do recall cheapskating a squad of Oblits by _heavily_ converting three of the old-even-then plastic SM Terminators... (I converted _most_ of my special units out of plastics...) There _were_ metal Obliterators available, but I hated them; they looked like such a mess of parts that they didn't even feel like they'd ever _been_ Space Marines.
Yeah I'm not super keen on the old Oblit/Muti metal models either but they do have some cool bits on them. Was kind of hoping to find a decently priced metal Muti so I could steal its cool ass arm blade but I like what I settled for lol
@@TheLichsLaboratory Oh, the metal Obliterators I'm referring to are the _original_ ones. They looked like they were literally assembled from offcuts of sprue, plasticard and styrene tubing... with just heads and a couple of skulls to throw you off the scent... 😜
That upsized version of the chainfist looks fantastic. Definitely gonna check out those Zinge wires too, I've been trying to use regular guitar wire lately and it's... not great lol.
I went back to the helbrute painting video but didn't hear you mention how the ruddy brown metals on the chainfist got painted, would love to know how as they really pop on the pale pink!
If you mean the actual chainsaw blade parts, it's a desaturated red I mix myself for weapon cases. Five parts flat red to one part pure black, edge highlighted with the same flat red. I use Vallejo paints but honestly any standard red/black should work fine. Just make it in small batches or you'll waste a shit ton of paint, not that I would know or anything lol
Instead of modge podge over the coils, try sprue goo. Curious how that would. Also, REALLY COOL and gross fleshy/creep texture i stumbled upon using sprue goo, just apply a decent amount of gel super glue (enough to completely cover, but not so much it starts to spill/pool up). Def ventilated area as it takes about a day to dry, but I think you should look into it, as the texture it creates is very fleshy/organic looking :)
