The explanation was well stated and now I understand the dynamics behind the madness. I had not considered the raging of the waters between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and the fact it took thousands of lives in its creation.
In fact, the Panama Canal was originally a French Project, and they were attempting a build a sea-level canal. Two companies, two bankruptcies, 6 years, and fortunes and lives lost, they gave up. The US bought the project (the work that had been completed and equipment) at a bargain price and originally considered continuing the sea level canal until brighter minds won out and convinced the authorities that a sea-level canal would always be doomed. There is a fascinating (and giant) book about the history of this engineering marvel, "The Path between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal, 1870-1914" by David McCullough - amzn.to/2su6EpK
I don't think it has changed much since we went through it in 1989, then when we were on a tour of Panama City in 1992, did a tour and visited one of the locks, and saw operation from the land.
The Panama Canal was a good idea in my opion. It saves a lot of time (Even tho it takes 8 hours going through the canal) And if u were to go around South America it would take 7,800 miles more than going through the canal :)
My question is why build a canal? Just clear the land wide enough to allow ships to pass without all the sophisticated dams and compartments being filled or emptied each time a ship wants to pass.
First off, to connect the Atlantic and Pacific at a level crossing would have required blasting a channel through solid rock across the entire width of the isthmus, over 48 miles. As it stands to cut through the few mountains was a massive undertaking that took years and cost thousands of lives. By raising the water level 85 feet across much of this distance reduced the amount of rock that had to be cut through by hundreds of cubic miles. HOWEVER, perhaps more importantly are the tides, which regularly vary by more than 20 feet from one side to the other. This would make the canal a raging, unnavigable river that would shift several times a day. Since some of the greatest engeneering minds of the time constructed the canal, I'm sure they would have chosen an easier solution if there was one.
This way is better than going around the whole land because passing through here will only take 24 hours or less but the other way is atleast 48 hours or more
Whoooosh! I get a rush every time I look at this! So fascinating. And the percussion is just right. 🤭
What a rush! 😮 Jim, remember when u didn’t want to go thru Cascade Locks? 😝
Glad you posted this video. This is the first time I have seen her since 1993
That was fascinating. Thank you for posting this video, Love the music too.
This is oddly soothing to me
Exellent work done. Professional music arrangements!!!!
amazing stuff mate!!
Thank you for sharing.
From Australia un saludo para Uds.

thanks for posting that. I'm researching for a poem

As the boat was moving the film was cut, but had to watch all of the lock footage?
Great work done.
wonderful work

Nice video! Keep up the fantastic work!
We watched this today in my history class
What is the music? Pretty cool.

How can you get the gopro battery to last long enough to capture this?
Este mi panama mi canal maravilloso.
se nota q eres especial
Amazing..
The full transit takes 8-10 hours
Because it takes way more days to go around south America. The point of this canal is to link up the east and west coast of America.
Are the fellows we see walking around on the boat crew or harbor / canal personnel?
What resolution and how did you cope with battery life?
Mechanical engineering!
What was the full time of the transit?
i plan on using this music next time i pork my girlfriend

This is what i call true intelligence
LOL! Face at 6:07
Amazing, after 100 years people are still using that ancient canal. lol
salamander337 it was actually renewed in 2007 lmaooo😂😂😂
Wow that took forever...why not go AROUND the land instead??
I bet Magellan is rolling in his watery and scattered grave.
This way is better than going around the whole land because passing through here will only take 24 hours or less but the other way is atleast 48 hours or more
besides, cape horn is DANGEROUS
If u were to go around South America it would take 7,800 more miles. The Canal only takes 8 hours then u can cut through the Caribbean Sea :)
The litteral reason this was built was to NOT do that
SONG PLEASR
Me gustan tus videos, checa los míos en mi canal. Abrazos dobles! :)
5000 ppl died making that
mmmmm
vogus video
