Why wasn’t this in the red dead redemption 2 trailers this is perfect for the game especially because the game makes Arthur change his ways to be a better man
The song is about a haunted ridge, where its said a long time ago a man was driving cows through, someone had set up a homestead there, so instead of going around he shot a bullet in the air to cause a stampede right through the homestead, and they did, but they didn't stop, killed everybody on that homestead, the never stopped, soem say they're still on that ridge forever stampeding. Probably an urban legend, but a few years later a man heard the story of the Stampede Mesa, he came there on horseback with another man and went in, one from each side, they said they saw stampedes of Ghost Cows that seemed like they were made of clouds, blood red eyes, and one man whose horse was long known to never be startled by anything, just up and started running the other way, the man says he hit one of the cows and passed straight through them. This all alledgedly happend in real life btw, not something i made up.

It is awesome to think what a magnificently gifted talent Stan Jones was to have written this song. The lyrics are very poetic and the music is terrific. What a shame he only lived to be 49. He probably never heard Johnny Cash sing this, but there is no doubt he definitely would have been delighted if he had. Johnny delivers this great song as only he could.

Many who hate the truth and so like to pretend hell is not real hate this song for suggesting we save our souls. Some people who sing it have even felt compelled to leave out the references to saving their soul from hell, and the unending Devil's herd reference, and warning to the observer, "If you want to save your soul from hell a riding on our range, then cowboy change your ways today . . ." Notice the song never uses terms like 'Steers', but instead calls them Cows because the herds were not Bulls, but cows as a real cowboy would know. Johnny Cash does what may be the very best rendition of this truly wonderful song.

Ghost Riders in the Sky" was written by Stan Jones in 1948, based on his experience when he rode his horse out on the plains one day as a storm blew up with clouds resembling riders in the sky. Vaughn Monroe recorded the song in 1949.
