As someone who's part of the bdsm community and a dom with a sub I must say that this.... doesnt really give enough context on the safety measures and the agreements of both parties. Bdsm isnt always about hitting someone if they break a rule. Some dom/sub relationships dont even do physical punishment. This relationship dynamic exists differently for everyone but on a basic level the sub wants to willingly give power to the dom and the dom in turn respects this transaction and keeps the sub safe.
There are agreements and bounderies set before hand along with safewords and other possibly important things. So yes to one of his questions doms also follow rules set beforehand and if they break them its not good at all since its overcrossing boundaries.
Dom/sub relationships are far more emotional from what ive seen. Again its different for everyone with different kinks and interests but its about trust, guidence, protection, safety, vulnerability and becoming closer to both your partner and yourself.
Theres a lot more information online but i wanted to give a quick 2 cents here.

I’m disturbed by this “love” situation. As someone who grew up with an abusive (“father figure”) parent and my mom being the “submissive” (aka the abused) it disturbed me to not only see it but to also almost see it as if it’s not being *normalized*.
