Most of us enjoy living in our safe city. American 'freedom' will only bring us drugs, guns and chaos. We really don't care about what you expect us to care. If you Western hypocrites could just leave us alone and stop thinking on behalf of us, we will appreciate it very much. Thank you.

@@Llycn I agree thar safety is important, but to beat someone like they did to a shop owner is unforgivable. Chinese central party is also against Uighur's religion, which is Islam. I think that Chinese government should give those people more freedom, so they won't protest against your government's oppression. If they can live liveworthy life while being Islamic and working and selling products like they would do in other Islamic states, then they could be happier. In my country, Estonia(🇪🇪), Russian population is 25% of our total population, yet we still have one (political) party which does campaign in Estonian and Russian. Russian's in Estonia don't want to speak Estonian, but we don't use and will NEVER USE ANY KIND OF VIOLENR OPPRESSIONS AGAINS OTHER HUMANS. We have the same situation, yet we are the ones who suffered from Russia's occupation and those who didn't invade Xinjiang like China did, when Mao came to a commumist party leader. But to use aggressive violence towards miniorities is totally unacceptable. I understand, Chinese ethnicity and cultur is vital to you, but Chinsse government has to find better solutions for those people, like giving more freedom to them so they could still live peacefully in Xinjiang. I'm sure it will help. As I said, security is definitely important, but your government has the chances to make some liberalistic reforms which can lead Xinjian forward and make it better place for people to live and to visit for people.
      Respectfully,
      Karl

I feel that it was a poor idea to give an example of how a family was able to escape to the US. The example can be used as feedback for the captors to improve and tighten their system. I would have preferred not to know how they did it so the door wouldn't be closed to others looking to flee (or at least, the door wont be closed so soon). Furthermore, please do your best to conceal identities. People that knew or are related to Tahir Hamut that still remain in China may be put at risk by the content of this video. This video is the product of the combined efforts of many people and I believe a good piece of journalism was ultimately was made. First of all Xinjiang is not a state, it is a province. It is not since 1949 but since 1755 that Xinjiang became part of China. America invaded Mexico in 1846 and get California, New Mexico, Arizona Nevada and many other states. I think no American will agree that these states should be return to Mexico or get independent. Now imagine there is a group of Mexican people (No offense here, just a hypothetical story), not only they think these states should get independent, they start to kill innocent civilians, especially white people, because no one support them. What would you Americans do? Wouldn't you put more police on the street? wouldn't you do a background check when someone want to buy a gun? The footage and words used in this report is also very misleading. I guess that is always the case when the reporter is biased in the first place.

you know I use to think that China's one-party totalitarianism is despicable. However, now I have completely changed my views. To understand why such totalitarianism(it carries a negative connotation, but for me, it's neutral) works perfectly well in China, not America, you need to examine the fundamental difference in culture that is passed down throughout generations. In China, since 2000 years ago when it is united into a a single country by the first dynasty, Qing, the values of individuals are already set. That value is majorly Confucianism and his teaching Daoism. Why did this value get passed down throughout the last 2000 years even though the dynasties have switched more than ten times? One of the core teaching in confucianism is respecting hierchies: Child < Woman < Man < Government officials < Emperor. If you are an emperor, of course you want everyone to know that the emperor is the highest, that's why the teaching of Daoism as a whole got passed down throughout generations. As a result, the idea that government is the highest is engrained throughout generations' heart. In America, everyone comes from different culture, therefore, it is not possible to have a totalitarian government since everyone's value does not align. Nowadays, people tend to see China's total surveillance state as negative, but Chinese people don't care. They don't care if the government monitor their wechat, their cell phone. Why? Because they are living a good life. The Chinese economy has been booming nonstop for the pass 40 years, growing at an exponential rate. Because of this complacency with their lifes, in fact, they want the government to stop anyone who tries to ruin their harmony. Only 0.000000001% of the Chinese population is affected by the surveillance. Chinese people is able to sacrifice some part of their freedom for the greater cause, maintaing the harmony within the society. In America, you sacrifice part of your freedom for your own protection, it's just in China that they sacrifice more, WITH THE CONSENT OF THE MAJORITY.

Now, what else is China supposed to do? Would the U.S. not do something similar, if not even worse, if this was taking place in their own country?
