Weird world. Stupid channels with pranks, breaking phones, celebs etc. have over million subs and the man with incredible knowledge and skills creating things has only over 400k. Wishing you all the best in that tough profession! Thanks for the movies.
Great job Jody, I'll make you a deal....you keep making videos, I'll Keep watching them. P.S. Love my tig finger. I started Tig welding in 1994. And I still learn a thing or two every time I watch your videos. Thank you for taking the time to upload, it is appropriated.
This is the only form of welding that I don't have under my belt just yet but I plan on practicing daily, as soon as I can afford the whole setup and a small workshop built to practice in.
Never hear the term "walking the cup" before and what an idea. This will help this old lady whose hands aren't that steady any more. Thanks for the video!!
Really enjoy your vids, Jody. I'm retired, past 70, have a full machine shop, and just bought a nice TIG machine a few months ago. Still experimenting, with better and better results. I ordered a pair of TIG fingers a few days ago. Thanks for thehelp, man.
Aint1S Thanks. Since I have my 4 yr degree from way back, they've been decent enough to let me enroll in just the welding courses. It starts this Tuesday :D
I always enjoy your videos. You explain it well and your welding is great. I just need to work on making it second nature for me. Thanks for taking the time to put these out there. Also I will say that I bought your TIG Finger XL and it works great! When I am making some parts I am welding on 2 ends of a 7" tube and without the TIG Finger it was impossible to prop on the part due to the heat. Now its not an issue at all and I get much more repeatable welds on both ends of the tube because of it. Thanks again!
Jody man i swear i look at you work and think damn this is easy, then i go and try and mine looks like a pile of rhino crap. You're a legend my friend.
Massive thanks to this video Jody finally mastered walking the cup today at work thanks to this. Proper chuffed to bits with how my welds are turning out thanks to you. Keep doing what your doing mate! Spot on!!
It's because he's the *Austin Powers* of the TIG world... Women want him and men want to weld like him. The dude has got some kind of style in his beads. ✌️
Very nice welds, looks so easy. I need more time at the bench training and have some fun. Every time I need to TIG the conditions are horrible. Unknown metals, awkward position or not enough time. ☹️
Hey Jody! For that second piece you had with the smaller lap weld, what material is that? Should I expect oxide coloration from all normal steel, not just stainless?
Can anyone link me to a previous video on this great channel where Jody built an arm rest / support stand for TIG welding? I've looked for 20+ mins. Searching by several different key words and going back in chronological order. Can't find it. Thanks for any help.
Excellent, I have been watching your videos for a long time now. I love them you do a very nice job of of filming. Not to mention you are an excellent welder lol. I always say I have to get one of those Tig fingers, but I never do. I think it's time, I started a new Job a couple months ago and all they do is stainless tig as far as welding goes. Can I get one in Canada?
I have an issue with my cup moving smoothly across the metal. It seems the cup really scrapes against the metal to the point where its difficult to smoothly walk the cup. Any tips?
Thanks for answering; I said it's always good to see a welding craftsman. Many can weld, but few know how to handle their hands as a good cartoonist would do with their drawings.
Still trying to master the action seems I am pushing to hard and the cup releases its stick to the part and I get a jump in my bead I just need to do more practicing. I use the #8 gas lens fo almost all I do. Like your videos very much keep it going.
Bruce Kennedy practice with a dry rig with a big cup. Turn and roll in the direction you are travelling. It doesn't require much force. Too much and you will slip.
I know I'm on the wrong video (wrong process) I'm learning welding on my own by watching your videos and a little trial and error. I've watched a ton of videos from you and some other guys on here. I've passed my 1g test the first time I took it. I need to now pass my 2g and 3g test. With each test I pass I get a little more money. Could you do a video on vertical groove test with backing focusing on rod movement? I would like to see the different rod manipulation techniques and the results of each one. I can't run a good stringer. All the videos I've already watched on it are extremely helpful however I can't really notice any sort of rod movement.
Very clean restarts. It's something Jody does well, and he even has a video or two on the topic. But getting your restarts right will make for what looks like one solid bead...
hello, I see that you make beautiful video and it interests me as much.I am myself welder tig but I would like to apply on a black steel tube thickness 4 mm solder drip drop. can you make me a video please
Hi Jodie. I am trying to get the hang of the walking the cup technique. It looks kind of like weaving to me. But i keep getting undercut at the top and of my welds. I reduced my current but then i cant seem to get a good puddle forming. But wen i get the right current to make the puddle form and flow nice. Undercut happens. I am doing practice pieces. Can someone help plz. Thanks
What position are you welding in? Meaning, is it laying flat like in his videos? But just generally speaking, you might not be pausing enough at the 'top' edge. That said, pausing too long is also a problem, but remember - the puddle follows the heat. If you're getting undercut at the top edge of your weld, try moving your filler rod up higher, near the top edge. That puts the new material in closer to the point you're seeing undercut, and again - pausing to let the puddle flow out around the heat is how you get it smooth. If the filler is added near the undercut portion, it'll smooth out more and undercut less. Also, you don't need to just lay the filler in and 'walk' over it - I often will walk the cup, but dip rod in along top edges to avoid undercut. Dipping while walking works very well.
not every job....but a lot. each job has its different details that might dictate a different size cup...but a 3/32"" (2.4mm) electrode can be used on DC up to 200 amps and down as low as 5-10 amps
All right, that seems reasonable, and is a real difference. Did you just make that up or is it in general use? In my case at the moment, I'm trying to make fillet welds, and want to do this just to steady the whole business, and enable a tighter arc than I can hold with my shaky hands. SO, the cup will be in contact with two surfaces all the time, not rolling back and forth like a drum as he said. OK, "Wiggling" it is! I just tried it today for the first time with one of those nice glass cup setups, and of course it's just held on there by an o-ring and is not steady enough to do this... serious beginner mistake and no harm done, but it seemed well to watch some more videos at this point.
Could you do a more in depth video to either the ahp160st or the Everlast140st machines and their tig capabilities(if you have them). It's all my current budget will allow and I'd be a beginner with tig so they're presumably be a good place to start
jayro4113 The Everlast 140 is a good machine- plan on getting better cables/torch etc in the future to make it more useable- otherwise, it's a good machine to start with.
But how capable is it? This is the kind of thing where a video is helpful, to actually show what all you can do with it and to what extremes. And since the ahp is in the similar price bracket, which is the better of the too? And what's the deal with the accessories that you'll be replacing them?
Machines like this need to have a shoot out so people can actually decide which is right for them, as I farm and the stick welding side of things will be used quite actively as well
There are handheld grinders you can get that are specifically for tungsten's. The one I use at work is a Techsouth, and while they're not cheap, they are very consistent and make excellent points. And they're little bigger than a dremel, and can sit on your work surface with you (in case you're like me and need it relatively often...).
Weird world. Stupid channels with pranks, breaking phones, celebs etc. have over million subs and the man with incredible knowledge and skills creating things has only over 400k. Wishing you all the best in that tough profession! Thanks for the movies.
There’s also not that many people in the world who want to weld compared to people who uses phones, watch movies, and like jokes lol
man i finally found you, I was in a welding class and your videos helped teach me ,but man you know how to weld
Just bought the tig finger combo used it just 2 days now and am in love with it! Super easy to get comfortable on any kind of joint. Thanks Jody!
Great job Jody, I'll make you a deal....you keep making videos, I'll Keep watching them. P.S. Love my tig finger. I started Tig welding in 1994. And I still learn a thing or two every time I watch your videos. Thank you for taking the time to upload, it is appropriated.
Brother, you are a million times better at welding then I am.
Thanks for sharing your talent.
Eric
This is the only form of welding that I don't have under my belt just yet but I plan on practicing daily, as soon as I can afford the whole setup and a small workshop built to practice in.
Never hear the term "walking the cup" before and what an idea. This will help this old lady whose hands aren't that steady any more. Thanks for the video!!
I think I have to learn this, or cut way back on coffee! What are the chances of THAT?
We watch your videos in my welding school
This is crazy. I've been watching a lot of tig welding videos for the past two months and this video is the best 👍💯 so far.
Well produced videos keep me coming back, thanks Jody!
Really enjoy your vids, Jody. I'm retired, past 70, have a full machine shop, and just bought a nice TIG machine a few months ago. Still experimenting, with better and better results. I ordered a pair of TIG fingers a few days ago. Thanks for thehelp, man.
Great video Jody!
your videos never disappoint.
Clean simple video but a good reminder and I did not previously know the cup numbering system. Thanks as usual.
Great video / arc shots. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. It’s been a big help
dude I learn so much from this guy
Wow, best video yet (for me). I did not even have a concept of practicing without a helmet on. Thanks for sharing.
The Godfather of welding has made another awesome video. Thank you SIr.!!! Keep them coming.!!
I love the videos they certainly have helped me out immensely! Thankyou for taking the time to teach us all.
I'm an insomniac, not a welder. After watching so many of your vids late at night, I've enrolled in a technical college for the full welding course :D
Really, that's freaking cool and the best form of flattery for sure! Congrats and good luck, you've got a headstart on set-up time in school.
Aint1S Thanks. Since I have my 4 yr degree from way back, they've been decent enough to let me enroll in just the welding courses. It starts this Tuesday :D
Hows the school going??

Jody you're a beast!!! Thank you for all you do!!
Great instruction Jody, thanks for all your help!!!!

Great info Jody. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for making great videos as usual. I seem to always learn from you
Quick note I am living in Thailand and see many posting on your videos from all over the world
Great video as always
You sure make that look easy haven't done much tig work but sure would like to get into it
Excellent video! Thank you, now I just need to practice because that’s all I didn’t know how to do in tig welding
More great info for a beginner. Thanks very much
Nice looking finished product.
damn those arc shots were sick!!!
Wwjd "what would Jody do?" that's me everytime I'm gonna weld something thanks for all got knowledge
Great video Jody 🙏👊🏻
Awesome work sir
super excellent tig welding skill..
Massive thanks to this video Jody finally mastered walking the cup today at work thanks to this. Proper chuffed to bits with how my welds are turning out thanks to you. Keep doing what your doing mate! Spot on!!
You're the man!! Great video
Thanks. Love your videos
Thankyou Jody! You the Man...
My you have a happy Thanksgiving thank you again
Great video. Thank you!
Thanks for the video. You're a beast!
very nice technique!
Thanks Jody Great Video
Keep up the good work
Well done, thank you.
Great video
Why thumbs down a Jody video. I've seen a bunch and no reason to thumbs down any.
I find it rediculous. I don't know Jody from a hole in the ground but he seems such a common sense nice guy. And he knows his stuff.
Or it could be ChuckE2009 :)
Might be Mr. Tig lol
More likely. Lanse has a lot of respect for JC. Bigtime.
It's because he's the *Austin Powers* of the TIG world... Women want him and men want to weld like him. The dude has got some kind of style in his beads. ✌️
Your videos are so well put together! Thanks for the education, Jody.👍
Insightfull. Awesome learning curve. Thanks for your u-tube videos. Why don't some schools teach walking the cup for their students?
i like weldding, im study now.. thankz u video....
Love your videos, if possible could you do a video about how to insure that you drive the weld all of the way in to the root of the weld?
Very nice welds, looks so easy. I need more time at the bench training and have some fun. Every time I need to TIG the conditions are horrible. Unknown metals, awkward position or not enough time. ☹️
Nice style

You are better than machine 😍

Man, wish i was as good as you!
bustin nuts keep practicing. You'll have it bud.
Thanks again Jody.. Rgds from Australia 22NOV2017
What size tungsten are you using? In what instance would you use a thicker tungsten?
i would like to see some mig stainless steel tips with some bending and cheaking some test on it it would be nice
Just wondering, do you ship the tig fingers to europe?
Could you do a vid on welding positions
I'm just a hobbyist welder with an everlast welder. Would walking the cup ever be useful for me to know?
Thank you
Спасибо за видео очень полезное!!!

What angle is cup when walking. I know with aluminium you should not walk cup but torch should be always close to 90 degrees as you free hand. ??
я вас очень уважаю за ваш труд

Soy de peru como puedo hacer para comprar sus productos y si sus videos los tiene en español le agradeceria que me responda gracias
Hi Joni seam butterfly in pulse mode cooking?
Como siempre excelente ver un artesano de la soldadura!!!!
English Edward !!!
Thanks for answering; I said it's always good to see a welding craftsman. Many can weld, but few know how to handle their hands as a good cartoonist would do with their drawings.
Dear Sir how to make convexity came by tig welding on fillet weld....
How are you. Dear! I wanted to consult .... what kind of contribution I use in that welding.
Is internacional shipping available on your store?
I'm willing to buy a tig finger, but can't order it from my country (Romania). Can we sort it out somehow?
Thanks in advance!
Can you talk a little more about holding your fill rod and where to position it
I know this is an old video Jody but what CFM are you running??
Still trying to master the action seems I am pushing to hard and the cup releases its stick to the part and I get a jump in my bead I just need to do more practicing. I use the #8 gas lens fo almost all I do. Like your videos very much keep it going.
Bruce Kennedy practice with a dry rig with a big cup. Turn and roll in the direction you are travelling. It doesn't require much force. Too much and you will slip.
I also think my angle is to close to 90 degrees need to learn the sweet angle for just the right movement forward.
Bruce Kennedy stick your tungsten out almost as far as your cup is wide. If you use an 8 cup stick your tungsten out close to a half inch.
How would I purchase the tig finger
I know I'm on the wrong video (wrong process) I'm learning welding on my own by watching your videos and a little trial and error. I've watched a ton of videos from you and some other guys on here. awesome
Jodi, do you prefer the Lincoln Tig 200 in performance over the Lincoln MP 210/ Tigging ? ?
Henry Sanchez it's the same but can't weld alum with the 210mp both weld great awsome starter rig
How do you wrap around the corners so it looks like one complete weld?
Very clean restarts. It's something Jody does well, and he even has a video or two on the topic. But getting your restarts right will make for what looks like one solid bead...

Wiggling the cup: 2 contact points on the cup
Walking the cup: 1 contact point on the cup
