The most raw, darkest album the Violent Femmes ever did. It worries me that it's my favourite.
Trying not to be seriously hooked like years before.
Embrace it
@@jalopyjoe4483 Oh I'm beyond embracing my darkness. I have seen the light.
I got this from Santa in 1984 when I was 13. It remains my favorite as well.
My fav too. None of the other fellow fans I hung with liked it.
best bassline ever
I found this band by coincidence in 2023, and this song has become one of my GOATs, it just hits me right in the "feels".
Mind you i heard their music more than 20 yrs ago, country death song sinister yet in their Realm.!!! and mine?
Jesus, this song is creepy and warped my teenage mind in the mid 90’s when I became a Femmes Freak. Dat undulating bass line tho! Sends chills up the spine along with Gano’s psychotic lyrics!
Your whine gets better as the years go by! (Yes, that's whine with an H)
Great video for a great song!
Brian with the brilliant bass as usual
Brian is my hero
My favorite Violent Femmes song. After so so many years, it is still a masterpiece.
Banger. Like a stripped down, punkier Talking Heads. Love the bass.
Fabulous! One of my favourite (of many) Violent Femmes songs!
Hallowed Ground is an amazing ly creepy, fun, spiritual album. Never thought those 3 words would go together but the Femmes make it work!
Brian Ritchie is a top tier bass player.
Met him a couple of years at a concert, nice guy
He is good
The femmes would not exist without him
@@donquavioushigglebottom8186 i saw him in a crowd b4 the femmes went on. i do wish i hadn't been too shy to talk to him.
Just saw them play this live tonight at The Rooftop in Manhattan. Mind blowing!!!
One of my favourite Femmes songs.
Reminiscent of Lou Reed.
my favourite femmes song
It's bloody addictive. Every once in a while I get lost into their music.
I had this on vinyl in the 90's. Hallowed Ground is still one of my most listened to and all time favourite albums and until now, I thought the lyrics went, "I spit right up in the the heart of hell!." I fucking love this band. Apparently you can not fuck with them...
This might be the single greatest underrated, forgoten classic of all time.
So true, most "violent femmes fans" don't even know this song.
I've enjoyed this band since the 80s ....still speaks to me in 2021!
just came across it boooom .ffs ...check days n daze out.... enjoy another 30
And in 2023!
2021 was the worst year for music ngl
Incredible video! This is my favorite Femmes track, and your video was a wonderful interpretation of a great song. Not an easy song to put to film!
Congratulations!
Dr.L
This is my generation's Stairway to Heaven
Thank God Gordon became a musician and writer.....otherwise......we might have been hearing about him in crimewatch monthly
This is my favorite VF song. I wish they'd play it live.
They do!
They didn't play it when I saw them. Great fkn show! My only regret was not hearing this one live. They were still amazing! And I got to see them finally.
I saw them twice back in the 90's and I don't remember them playing it either.
@@erichyde2581 They played it last night at Pappy & Harriets in CA... it was as raw and wonderful as you can imagine. So fun to hear it.
@@robkalmbach love it. They're coming to my town (Tulsa soon) hopefully I'll get in on the magic.
Easily my favorite song...it just builds and builds...
Then once it gets to the final chorus...just raw joy. I absolutely love it.
Very true
I had to put my seat belt on listening to this- and I'm in the armchair.
This is classic Violent Femmes I f****** love it
Ive really only ever known their debut album glad i clicked here today
I see all these comments saying they were teens in the 80s lol where are my fellow 2000s kids at, I love old music. I probably seem very immature.
it is an original video or is a fan video? its just great...dont understand why no one realize that!!
Armstrong Fellinni this is the official music video. Judging by the fact they uploaded it a year ago, I’m assuming they commissioned it (it’s one of the bands favorite songs of theirs)
Funny how the next song on the album is "jesus walking on the water"
Also funny how i remeber that 30+ years later
This song is just 10 out of 10. I am a musician too and this is a great example of 10 in composition; 10 in dynamics; 10 in bass lines and breaks; 10 for the lyrics; simplicity and good guitar embellishments; excellent and competent drums action; the video is 10 too. 10 for the vibe. I have this album in vinyl but I need it in a CD too.
Boning is missing a definition...
Is it just me, or some moments of this song are very Twenty One Pilots'ish?🥰
No Thanks
Origins of Smashing Pumpkins
Pixies definitely drew some influence here.
Raw. Travels you back to the depression via betrayals, the son of a preacher man is trustworthy. :)
Gonna see them them play with flogging molly in October! So stoked, never seen the Femmes
This and sweet misery blues are so fucking criminally underrated
I would like to dedicate this to all those prized Moderna Hedgefunders who investigated themselves and found no lab leak. Who is still with us and listening in 2022? You ARE the resistance!
This has been in my top 5 songs of all time since I was 11 yo. I'm 45 now.
1986, i remember best times
I'd like to tell y'all a true story but I ain't gonna turn rat-fink.
Perfect!
This is one of the coolest songs of all time. Easily up there with Sweet Jane and Venus by Television.
Excellent song & video!!!...
I discovered that band in 1992 ..
I loved this song since the first time I heard it... absolute masterpiece.
If I have a soul, this song scratched it.
True words indeed
Big respect, The Violent Femmes.
Legendary band....
3:47 de "Mngm", Mngm?Blew my mind,and he Mngm,great.
The coolest lyric video
Amazing!
Brings back some serious memories
Very cool way to do the lyrics
Modest mouse must be a fan
By the way, the video fits!
Excellent song, like always!
Each of their music videos is a masterpiece!
Violent films showing everyone what it means to stay relevant
What does he mean by don't you know nothing you never tell someone?
I believe its' the old "snitches get stitches" policy that bad people have. Do a bad thing, keep it a secret, and threaten or kill anyone that exposes said secret.
@@Hermetic_Enigma thankyou
It makes me wonder...
Sick always
My childhood.
Me 💯 % 😂
I got this album in 1985, this was the song I'd play on repeat when one of my bitch friends stabbed me in the back haha!! Teen angst
Ju
My dad grew a tree in his eye 👁
Cordyceps... it'll grow on you. But really, I just love this album as a whole, and this is one of my favorites off of it.
:)
Mine too. And this is my favourite song from the album.
just perfect ???
Bassline is nasty af!
Let’s see…. may be at this point another 10 years and the library of Congress.
There's a double cd out there. The 2nd were live recordings in random small bars. I cant find any trace of it. I know it exisit..I checked out from the library 20 yrs ago!! Someone please help.
Maybe one of the numerous deluxe editions of the first album?
Well, time to watch this for the hundredth time I guess

I'm playing it
YOU'RE playing it TOO aggressively

Way better than the first album
Hands down, my favorite song ever.
