North Pier Bait Fishing.

We decided to leave the artificials for a bait session at North Pier.
The Crow was up early and arrived an hour before, with a head start waiting for Mr Sleeping beauty 😛 VeerMan.
Once he arrived we got our rods in and it was a waiting game.
A slow start to the session withering away in the blistering heat but something happened all of a sudden that caused chaos.
In a matter of 30 odd minutes, we got 5 pick-ups.
The 1st skate dropped the bait
2nd skate swam front right and the leader parted on the rocks.
3rd skate was landed and released at the water's edge.
4th was a baba which we brought up, safely dehooked, and released.
5th was a shark but unfortunately due to us contending with the boats and reefs, we got cut off.
Was definitely an experience and learning curve, we will definitely be better prepared for our next adventure.
When fishing areas like this we suggest using, a short as possible running rig with no swivel above and a thin gauge non coated circle hook.
One does not need to cast great distances here so no need for clipping baits or using dingles as we are lobbing baits into the channel.
In the event of one getting cut off, the sinker drops away and the hook will rust off.
