    "The FBI released its 2021 national crime data estimates this week, and, as expected, the takeaway is far from conclusive. In short: The nation’s most thorough crime data collection program concluded it’s possible crime went up, went down or stayed the same.
    That’s partly because the year-on-year changes to the numbers were small. The FBI estimates that murders rose by about 4% compared to 2020, while overall violent crime decreased by about 1%. Officials cautioned that neither change is statistically significant, and concluded that crime rates were roughly flat."

    Yes, it would be poor methodology to limit oneself only to the FBI’s data collection - but what’s the point? Is Ana just so hung up on being an apologist for Donald? Given her record so far, it’s more likely that the “right-wing moral panic” will again come from her.

    All of this is true Anna but here i the thing IT'S ALWAYS TRUE YOU.... There is always reported and unreported crime, so if you want to say "oh crime is so much higher you have to add this to the numbers" then you have to do the same thing to old number. No matter how you slice it crime is down. It may be higher than reported but that has always been true.

    Surveys of crimes also can be inaccurate, especially as it relys on memory.
    An example would be to count two separate incidents as the same crime or vis versa, two or more people describe the same crime differently and one incident could be counted multiple times.
    It heavily relys on hearsay and not just eyewitnesses.
    I learnt this in sociology more 30 years ago.
    There are inaccuracies in all collections of crime data, the police or FBI can only rely on reported crime, surveys tend to inflate crime.

    Unless the percentage of unreported crime changes drastically over time, it still means the relative changes in reported crime is still fairly accurate. The actual numbers are just higher than reported. The FBI statistics also have a different problem. They rely on local police agencies to report them. But, again, unless the ones that don’t report the crimes accurately change their methods drastically, the relative percentages don’t change.
    So the true “suckers” are the ones who decided not to pay attention in math classes.

      @@2hr369 we do, as she said later in the video. The FBI changed its reporting format, and 6000+ jurisdictions didn't report in 2022. While that number dropped to 4000 in 2023, that's still 6000, then 4000 jurisdictions that, presumably, HAVE been reporting prior to 2022. So none of their crime rates got counted.

      @mariechampagne932 Месяц назад +1

      Excellent video and actually despite being far right is against crime, it has ironically done a better job at creating crime through a fall short system to carry eachother. Despite the far left more invvested in mental health, it falls short but without ANY support, that's even worse. People are so easy to forget that most of human history was governed by right wing, and cavemen were the most far right wing as a collective as it gets. Do you think they had mental health supports back then? Do you think crime didn't exist back then? It was actually worse and less reported, there were strict rules for women in our humanities fox news far right wing mass psychosis history that Fox news keeps trying to erase from the history books in schools and creating perfect optics radicalize the green party, just as the illegal settlements in Palestine is creating optics to radicalize Palestinians

    • @mariechampagne932
      @mariechampagne932 Месяц назад +1

      I also need to present here that there are 2 types of far left governance with quite different approaches and often get confused between each other especially by the right. Number 1 is an old style liberal approach which is like Amsterdam and is far far closer to anarchy than a far left progressive governance which stands by many laws like today but more of a communist approach whereas the majority are relatively equally paid from CEO all the way down with of course, large efforts in workload balancing. The right wing simpletons often degrade the word communism with lack of understanding it, lack of context expresssed in the reality that there have been quite a few forms types of communism already proposed and this form of far left wing progressive politics actually shares some dictatorial values of far right wing politics which centers around the word control, or opposite of liberty. This behavior is actually important in some areas such as the planet does not care what our preferences in transportation are, 47 years left of oil draining faster, Biden is doing the right thing in highly regulating car culture in the future, and that is actually a combination of a right wing dictatorial idea in order to help sooner achieve a more sustainable transportation future compared to this fox news magic moment song by the drifters reality.

    …someone should tell Ana about the difference in differences method, and have her-and the Appeal (although she’s a bit misleading as to what the article says since, for one, it doesn’t draw the conclusions she draws)-go back and think about the positions taken here.
    And the global warming point is somewhat of an analogy, since holding that cities enjoy an important status in thinking about crime is similar to insisting that colder weather in a certain region-North America, say-enjoys some favored status in discussing climate change. While I think there is more to be said for Ana’s particular point about centering what is going on in large metro areas, I’m not even sure that her contention is even right. Surely she can’t move from crime data is incomplete and distorted to, look at perceptions of crime, it is a huge problem. That’s just “gap” reasoning right there.
    But she just has an axe to grind against crime. No doubt, one should be against crime but her constant need to address the issue-even down to particular stories-seems to me to be a personal crusade absent more evidence to suggest that crime is a major problem compared to, say, 2016.

Oh, you don't say? Was that on the cul-de-sac where I told you the criminals were parked and there was a likely burglary in progress? How _strange_ . It's too bad there wasn't anyone around to report that someone's house was probably being broken into.

  • @imnotmike
    @imnotmike Месяц назад +3

    The problem I have with this is that if you're just relying on a survey, there's been no verification that there's actually been a crime. There's the whole innocent until proven guilty thing. And of course, since we're not talking about punishing anyone that doesn't matter as much. But people still do lie about crimes - especially when there are no consequences for lying about the crimes. People like to make themselves out to be victims, and will often exaggerate events and even straight fabricate events in order to make themselves out to be the victim, because as a victim they feel like all of their faults can be blamed on whoever victimized them.
    This becomes a very big problem when you start talking about rape and sexual assault. Because you have these reports that come out that claim that something like 80% of all women are raped, and 90% of all rapists get off with no punishment.
    Those make for super alarming headlines.
    But the fact of the matter is, they're counting everyone who is innocent as a rapist in that statistic, and that's a very problematic omission from the story.
    It is possible that the vast majority of the people they're calling rapists are completely innocent, and are just guys who have a girlfriend who got mad at them, and decided after the fact that she wasn't happy with the relationship, therefore it was retroactively rape in her mind. There's absolutely no verification of any of this, and even if she's straight up lying about what happened and everybody found out she was lying, she still wouldn't face any consequences, since she's not making these claims to law enforcement, so she can say whatever she wants. There's no disincentive at all for her to not just say whatever makes her feel vindicated.
    And then these fear mongering organizations release these reports with these shocking headlines that make it sound like everybody in America has been raped, when the truth is really just that everybody in America has been mad at their boyfriend at some point or another, and in their mind, when anonymously reporting to an unofficial organization with no power and no consequences, that's basically enough that we can just call it rape.
    It's reasonable to call out the reasons why the FBI crime statistics might be underreporting crime. It's even reasonable to mention these kinds of self reporting surveys.
    But you also have to mention that these surveys are also flawed, and could very well be much less accurate than the FBI crime statistics, and there's just no way to know how accurate they are.

Stores are having to close because of theft, they are also getting rid of self checkout for theft reasons. Many businesses are leaving the state altogether...but hey, FBI says crime is down!

    Yes ana if you read the article your reference you are being ignorant and pushing "copaganda"?!....(I get it someone annoying you on Twitter) because the company compiling the numbers says it's down 20% in most city's san frans is down 30+% because these are month on month comparisons at year end I doubt San Fran will be 30% down on 2023 (can hope) , LApd even say in that article it had a week with 0 homicide first week of April after that spikes if someone used that week too make a similar comparison too the same week last year and say LA has a 0% homicide rate now they would be laughed at as well what Anna's doing is equally silly one organized crime clash or mass shooting can throw the number out in small time frames it's best to relay on year to year comparison and 2023 was 17% down on 2022 And 2022 was 5% down on 2021.
    The point people make your fear mongering segments are catering to false narrative of increasing crime when it is for the most party decreasing after it's massive uptick in 2020 will crime ever be gone no but it's lower than it was a last 3-4 years ago and it's lower than it was in the early 2000s , 90s and 80s .from the LAPDs numbers not FBI.

    This video is so easy to debunk. First of all what she's doing is equivalent of pointing out something that Hitler said that he might have been correct about. There's absolutely no reason to reference anything that Hitler got that was correct. And no I'm not comparing Trump to Hitler. Then the core part of her argument is ridiculous. She makes an argument that a lot of crimes are not reported which is old news it's been like this for a very long time then she uses this to suggest that the crime dropping is actually not valid however it doesn't matter that most crimes are not reported. If many crimes are not reported before and many crimes are not reported now and we see crime going down then that means crime is actually going down. The only reason it would not mean crime is going down is if the percentage of unreported crimes has increased but she made no suggestion that there's any evidence at all that the percentages of unreported crimes has increased so therefore any change in crimes whether going up or down would be actually true The only thing she's talking about is that the actual number of crimes is not accurate but that's a separate concept from whether crimes have increased or went down.
    Imagine if my car speedometer is 20 mph too slow. So it's not giving my accurate speed. When I'm going 40 mph it says 20. Now when I accelerate the speedometer is going to accurately show my acceleration when I decelerate it's also going to accurately sorted as well The only thing that it's not going to show is what my actual speed is but it will accurately represent changes in my speed unless the amount that it is off by fluctuates.

      I think your point might be valid for the violent crimes alone but not with property crime, its almost certain that property crime reporting has decreased, because its well known that liberal run cities have borderline legalized low level property crime and low level theft and on top of that the perpetrators are released almost immediately because of new anti cash bail laws for things like low level property crime and shoplifting. So why bother reporting it? It's literally just a waste of time for the victim to report it under some of these new laws where you have to be stealing thousands of dollars worth of stuff to face any real consequences.

I don't see anybody's house around here with alarms signs from ADT. I wonder why that is? This literally gang activity around here and this is not known for being a good area but yet we aren't worried about crime here so since most areas are not as problematic as where I live then where is all this crime?

    A lot of times crimes go unreported because reporting it would have more detrimental consequences than not reporting it. For domestic violence cases, sometimes the abuser is the main bread winner in the relationship, and by reporting a violent incident it can cause financial hardship between the couple, etc.
