Good vid Ron,I've a korg minilogue original but feel like getting this as well but would I need it as the minilogue would sound the Same as the volca bass?through playing bass low notes on the minilogue.?
Aside from the colour balance, this has to be one of the most thorough and the easist to follow tutorial on the Vulca bass. Thanks man, this has saved me a bunch of time. Beats that pesky manual. Also liked how you've anotated the 'time line' to show what each section is about. I've not seen that before. Very useful. Liked and subscribed. @12:24 you pressed something which treated the sequence like an arpeggiator. I blinked and nearly missed this. Then i figured it out, you used 'LFO target pitch' to change the overal tone of the sequence. That one trick is worth elaborating on.
Um. If there was a course on this, you'd be the professor. Thank you for the video. You not only helped me understand it, but pick which volca I wanted first.
This tiny machine is ultra stunning... Ive had mine for a while now and it amazes me every time I use it... Its a shame you cannot chain patterns....but that is where a looper comes in. Stunning review and info...
Very good explanation video. To be clear, the abbreviation is the 'percent value' rather than 'cent value' which some people may be confused what that means.
This is gold. My Volca Bass rocked up this morning without a manual (or a box; eBay purchase!) and although I was making some excellent noises I needed to know why, and how, not wtf. This is as thorough a tutorial as I could have wished for so- as the Bass is my fourth (of five) Volca- liked, and subbed. Good work!
Thanks you for this. I picked one of these up on a whim, as I wanted a 80's Moog bass sound on the cheap, and I had just purchased a Korg D1 that can be used as a controller. I know nothing about synths. This really helps. The Volca looks like a toy, but it's quite capable.
Great demo/tutorial. Good pacing for me, so could easily follow along. Great sounding bass synth, for the money. I Love the Volca series. Have the Volca Drum now, and have a Volca Sample2 on back order. Thanks for making and sharing this. Now I will subscribe, and check out your other videos. Best wishes for your continued success.
Thank you Ron, I have for years a Volca Bass but had not yet come to it. Tonight I programmed and stored a nice sequence for a new track with my Volca Bass! :-)
This is a good video for beginners , I have watched the first dean Friedman , New York synth school video which helped me understand, but I am seeing different names and terminology on hardware besides. Thanks for your help and demo. I’m a guitar player so it’s a bit confusing
Hi there ! Thank you very much for your help. This video helped me a lot. I am not familiar with sounds generation so the official Volca instruction is ununderdtandable for me... but you made everything clear to me. Thanks again mate !
This is a really great video! I’m a total newbie when it comes to this stuff and I’m looking to get into it. I’m a guitar player and would love to play over the top of some bass lines created with this and kinda experiment. What do you think is the best way to go about this? Would it require using an audio interface and software? Thanks and sorry if that’s confusing haha
How do I start with a 100% blank sequence? When I press FUNCTION + CLEAR ALL / ACIVE STEP / PART / SLIDE it clears the active steps but does not clear the notes (meaning that inserting steps in a clear pattern follows melody saved in memory by factory). The only way to get rid of it is by going to FUNCTION + STEP REC and programming a melody. Even if I live record a melody before doing so, the melody plays but on whichever step the new melody wasn’t recorded the sequencer plays factory notes. EDIT: right after I posted the comment I found this thread: www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=740523&sid=1724c259ca1b46b1402e866c513b3ab2
Hi and thanks for the awesome tutorial. Is it possible to make longer sequences like in volca fm? So that for example four patterns are playing step by step?
I want to record midi from a sequence i made on the volca bass, in short i Cant because it doesnt have a midi out and I cant afford it, would you be so kind to tell me which notes are exatly on each step starting from the left C? It would make my life easier?
Hey there! Same as a keyboard. So look at the two darker keys that's the black keys on kbd. So I see it goes back to A. So...from left. A, A#, B, C,C#,D,D#,E,F,F#,G,G#,A,A#,B,C!
Excellent thank you.... does it save them even after you switch the machine off? I’m looking for something that can permanently save a Tune if you want to..... Many thanks for your great advice.
@@deepseadiver8191 yeah I really just don't use this much at all I use a lot of other synths. Maybe someone else who knows their bass better can respond? Or maybe ask in volca groups on fb
@@RonCavagnaro yeah, I asked. I don’t know about this Volca… Since you sequence it externally, are 3 oscillators separate MIDI channels and is Volca recognizing velocity?
Was thinking of getting one, this video convinced me not to. I've been spoiled by newer Volcas, only having 8 saveable patterns and not being able to chain them is a deal breaker for me
great video!, i just did not understand very well the difference with the Amp on and off, when is off I still can modify the different options of the EG. What does the amp button provide ? also if you can make a video with the functionality of the sustain , slide and act step buttons will be great!
I am thinking about buying a roland tr-8s...and then i see this...are they compatible? I see a midi-in and a sync-in, would this work with the roland's trigger?
It should. Be sure Volca clock is set to Auto and Rec Sht Msg to On (those are the defaults). You might have to “arm” the Volca Play button first, then hit Start on the TR8 for the Volca to run....not sure.
@@zoned7609 Thank you, but I do not like the sound of Midi. I am actually gravitating towards a multi-track recorder. I can't stand any sort of constraints brought on by looping. It makes everything into techno phrasing. And I just want to sprawl and let loose instead.

Excellent volca bass tutorial, one of the best I've seen, very well explained :-)
Yes, this is by far the clearest, highly informative and most well thought out tutorial I have seen about the Volca Bass.
It’s very impressive. So much more than just a bass sound.

Thank you, Ron! Very clear run through of the Volca Bass functions. I just bought mine today, and this will help a lot.

is there any way to increase the phrase time on the korg bass? i.e. on the korg key you can use the tempo 1/1 to 1/4 - is there a way to do this?
