I caught his "Don't Let Go" song on one of the side songs that pop up when you're on RUclips. I watched it, LOVED it, so looked for other songs by him. His voice was so unique and amazing. Then I, like so many other people, started watching AI for the first time- or the first time in a long time. Oliver Steele said that he had predicted that Iam would win shortly after he met him. He didn't even know his backstory yet. The auditions and first couple of performances, before live voting, were filmed last year. They added in the back stories and then aired them this year.
It will be great when they make those shows about T A L E N T. No stories, just talent. The guy is good, but he was not the most talented singer on that show.
This isn’t The Voice, which is more about vocal techniques. This is called American Idol, not American Voice, for a reason. You have to be very talented to make it, but you also have to have the strong ability to connect with the audience- so much so they want to support and love you more than someone else. That special “it factor.” That’s where the “Idol” portion of the title comes in. “a person or thing that is greatly admired, loved, or revered.” I don’t think these shows should be, well basically cookie cutters of each other. This way there are different shows to choose from. I don’t understand why some are complaining about one show, because it’s not like the other show that highlight the things they prefer.
I love he is 18 years old with no voice training... typical Islander who just love to sing... there something pure about him... we live in the world with so many big voices... we just need a pure innocent voice that touch your heart... he just love to sing and that's us Islanders we just love to sit around and sing (those who can sing and people like me that doesn't have a voice) LOLLLL.> deepest condolence to you and family... death of parent always hard on us no matter what ages we are... blessings.
I'm from Hawai'i and we all knew Iam was going to win. The show had great talent but this year it was about heart. He has a voice that drips kindness, a genuine human being whose ability creeps into your head and heart.
The difference between Iam and the other contestants is that Iam could make you feel something. The other singers where good but we've all heard that before none of them brought anything thay we haven't heard before. That's why I think Iam was the best singer this year becasue he could make you feel something when he sang.

Yet he honors them by singing the older version by singing a verse like Lionel, like Louis, etc. then he adds a little more modern to it. You need to watch Cool Down and you will see that it is like a vibe, and you have to tell me when any other American Idol has brought that reggae beat, Island jam, to American Idol. Like Adele, Iam may sound the same, but he is a great story teller that you listen to him and it moves people. His song I'll Be Seeing You reached #1 on iTunes, it replaced his other #1 song of his duet with James Blunt when they did Monsters, their duet was #1 trending on YT for 2 days, Iam's single reached #1 on Billboard, and he will be performing as one of the headliners with Luke Bryan in a concert this month in Virginia. His Monsters audition is currently at 18M viewers and every one of his performances on AI has reached 1M+ except the newer ones and they are getting close to it. Go back and look at the top 26, and search for their performances on AI and see how many reached 1M viewers, or 500K, or 250K, or 100K, or even 50K. Of the Top 3, Iam's visualizer video, one that each finalist put out, Iam is at 857K views, Colin at 299K, and Megan at 100K. The #'s don't lie, neither did the voting. Iam's performance on AI of his single is already at 1.3M views.
Where in the world will you find people dancing to "The Sound Of Silence" when this song is about, "Silence!" Only when IAM sings and his voice will move you and groove you to "The Sound Of Silence". Only a village can raise and produce this kind of talent and put forth for the world to witness such a beautiful soul! Cheee Hoooo!!!
You framed your argument well in the beginning and it was fair. So it was really kind of funny to see you get blown over by this performance. I think everyone has had these “ummmm, wow” moments with one or more of his songs. Yours just came a bit later. It’s redundant to say so, but this was an amazing performance by Iam. And I have a ticket to his show out here in Hawaii, and then I’ll really get to hear his instrument.
Oh my goodness!!!! Iam is my favorite American Idol contestant of all time!. I’ve seen them all I am almost 56 and F watched every dog on season but for a while I fell off because it ships wasn’t hitting home with me. But when him came on I could not miss one single episode. Even at work I had to turn on my Dagon phone and watching boat. This kid has the juice.! He has the eight factor he is extra. But he doesn’t try. That’s what makes him so magical. He said aside for a special purpose. He has God’s divine favor and not for one second will I ever doubt him His talent because God has his hand on this child I cannot wait. I hate that they put it in the middle of that stellar performance. It wasn’t his story that made me actually follow AI and vote. Love his voice. Love how he grabs your heart and doesn’t let go. Yes there were some talented singers this season. But it’s the way Iam conveys heartfelt messages through his songs that touches people’s hearts. But he won because of the people’s votes not the judges. I agree that We Ani has a beautiful voice and can hit all the notes but her singing did not stir emotions in me like Iams performances did. You also need to look at the numbers as far as all of their performances and popularity. Iam hands down is ahead by the millions!!! No one else even comes close to him. You cannot compare the 10’s of thousands and 100 thousands to the millions! Those millions voted!!!
Agree. There were actually much harder,heartbreaking stories than Colin, Megan, and Iam's. They were all super talented too. If it were just about their backstory, then the Top 3 wouldn't have even made it to the Top 3. Iam has more reaction videos than all the other contestants (someone said) combined. He also has more social media followers than the other Top 3 combined x2. People who do reaction videos choose the ones they think will go viral. That's how they make money, and why you see so many Iam reaction videos. Iam also has 5 of the top 8 most viewed videos on American Idol's RUclips website.The other 3 videos, in the top 8, are from years ago. Wé Ani has obviously seen the comments, by fans, saying that you have to have a backstory to win or it's rigged. She disagreed with that, and here's what she said was the real reason she didn't get the votes- "It's like when people can acknowledge that this food is really good, it looks great, I'm sure it tastes great, but I want to go with something else - I want my favorite meal," she said. "I think the reason I didn't get the votes is because people saw the people they wanted to win. There are a lot of people in middle America that are watching the show. They want their people to win," Wé said. "That's completely understandable. I completely get it."

Firstly, my condolences to you on losing your dad (and grandmother). I lost my dad a year and a half ago. Those feelings never go away. Secondly, this is I believe the only time I've ever watched American Idol (outside of maybe a couple of random performances on RUclips). I have to be honest and say I was 'pro' Iam during the entire season. But I wasn't always convinced that he would win. There were SO many talented artists. I did think toward the end that Wea Ani might pull through. Incredible voice. And even Colin Stough (the cowboy). But what I realized in the end is, with the talent on this particular season, I'm not sure it really matter who came in first. From what I've read, the winner doesn't always continue to get the recognition you would think. But, the 2nd, 3rd, and on down can enjoy just as much success because they've been 'discovered' and their talent 'recognized'. I have to congratulate Iam Tongi, but also everybody who made it to the at least the top 24. Good luck and success to all of you in your future!

It was all in the twist he made in original songs like Stuck On you. His voice was not only beautiful, he sang from a fresh wound. Yeah his delivery of his story was great but you are missing the uniqueness of Iam’s presentation. Powerhouse singing is not always the singing lead of music. And I am so damn proud that a Polynesian took this home. You’ve reacted to Fiji, and he is our Pacific Island powerhouse vocalist. But I don’t think you were into his singing even though he got the voice. I’m just saying, it felt like you overlooked Fiji and he is The Godfather of pacific island powerhouse singing. Iam is not a powerhouse… his singing is silky. I don’t know about safe. If safe, so be it. He’ll still deliver.
He actually has much more range and power. Megan and he were goofing around and singing together too. She did a IG Live video of it the other night. It was live and unrehearsed. They were singing a duet, and Megan went high on it. Iam said that he was going to try it too... And WOW! He went high and strong. I have never heard him sing like that before. @@SamoanObsidian Since Megan posted that video of them singing together, a couple of days ago, her social media accounts have increased dramatically. Her Facebook gained 10,000 new followers. What I like is that the comments are amazing. Both fans are raving over them (of course), but they are also raving over the other and begging for duets and to release an album together. And you already know how many concerts Iam's already done and is doing this year. All in the genre's he said he wanted to focus on- country, reggae and Island vibes, and folk rock like Jack Johnson. There were lines out the door for hours at the venue he, Megan, Colin, Haven, Noah, and HunterGirl sang at the other night. People were screaming Iam, women were screaming "I love you, Iam" lol , and the crowd was also singing along with him- this is in Nashville too. He sang two new songs that he wrote, and he cut singles (maybe an album too) for in the studio the other day. You're right, this is just the beginning for him. I hope they all succeed! Oh, and We Ani sang at that big country music festival yesterday too. That was with Iam, Megan, Colin, and Haven. I think she has or is considering signing with that record label too.

You can call Iam’s singing safe, but you are evidently forgetting that not only could he play two instruments-ukelele and guitar-but he could also had a unique arrangement songs. Most importantly, we saw him evolve during the American Idol show. His confidence also soared. The mom’s interrupting the song was intentional (I believe that it was designed to protect copyright of the video.)

We Ani was the best singer of this last season. I also stopped watching when she left. Usually, the saddest story wins this kind of show. The best not always wins. Morissette Amon was also eliminated from the Voice of the Philippines (take a look at her now).

They were singing a duet, and Megan went high on it. Iam said that he was going to try it too... And WOW! He went high and strong. I have never heard him sing like that before. @@SamoanObsidian Since Megan posted that video of them singing together, a couple of days ago, her social media accounts have increased dramatically. Her Facebook gained 10,000 new followers.
What I like is that the comments are amazing. Both fans are raving over them (of course), but they are also raving over the other and begging for duets and to release an album together.
And you already know how many concerts Iam's already done and is doing this year. All in the genre's he said he wanted to focus on- country, reggae and Island vibes, and folk rock like Jack Johnson.
There were lines out the door for hours at the venue he, Megan, Colin, Haven, Noah, and HunterGirl sang at the other night. People were screaming Iam, women were screaming "I love you, Iam" lol , and the crowd was also singing along with him- this is in Nashville too. He sang two new songs that he wrote, and he cut singles (maybe an album too) for in the studio the other day. You're right, this is just the beginning for him. I hope they all succeed!

You can call Iam’s singing safe, but you are evidently forgetting that not only could he play two instruments-ukelele and guitar-but he could also had a unique arrangement songs. Most importantly, we saw him evolve during the American Idol show. His confidence also soared.

agree, first time i ever heard anyone downplay this incredibly talented performer IAM. wonder why this guy dislikes Iam, but Iam and his Dad said that everyone is going to like their music, there is another reactor that tore down Iam too.
The problem is that if they don't have stories the show just becomes boring and they lose ratings. So the producers definitely over-indulge in the stories they share, I agree. But just straight singers with no stories would be pretty boring...

We Ani was the best singer of this last season. I also stopped watching when she left. Usually, the saddest story wins this kind of show. The best not always wins. Morissette Amon was also eliminated from the Voice of the Philippines (take a look at her now).
