This video came at the right time as just 2 days ago I was watching a Toshiki strength raining compilation and wondering why his C&J wasn't higher. Thanks Gabriel.
I think his shoulder strength is his biggest limiting factor, I watched his japanese interview and he told us that he injured his elbow pretty hard and thats whats stops him from jerking more and his jerk is unstable and thats why we see him rotating
at snatch is a bit more complicated, already have an video on my channel, were I'm explaining how to calculate your strength for snatch :) here is the video: ruclips.net/video/eOqnlzWWe6Y/видео.html
Hey Gabriel I like your videos a lot I am doing weighlifting myself for some time and I learned a lot from your videos too! So thanks a lot! I would like to see you discuss with Oleksiy Torokthiy the overhead position he is teaching or just make video about it. Its pretty common topic but I would like to see your opinion on what is the difference or main reason for the way he is teaching. Keep it up! I´m loving your content so far!
Hi Gabriel, next time could you show how you get the numbers, like exactly what percentages you used to find the amount toshiki can clean and jerk. I want to do this for myself too. Great video!
omg! very very interesting. even taking a look for myself about my clean and jerk, i saw that im lifting less than the normal. thanks gabriel! its a really good information
Very interesting analysis Gabriel, thank you so much. I did a reverse calculation and it seems that Toshiki needs to work on his deadlifts/pulls and shoulders and he will be easily able to hit more correct? 215 with only 110 strict press is also indicative of very good technique in the Jerk. also, why do you think his front squat to back squat ratio is so low?
Most of the super heavies are probably close to that. Mogushkov did 170 or 175 on video. I think it was Klokov that said Chemerkin could press 200. Lovchev did 140 and Mart Seim did 150 for reps. Lasha I’m sure could do it. In Klokovs weight class Berestov and Polovnikov are the only ones I can think of that could press 150.
Because clean pull is forcing you to fully extend, and in the clean or snatch you don't need to do that, only if you want to be slow and uncoordinated :)
For Squat Jerk should one add the five lifts but instead of push press put in overhead squat? Also, how do you find the potential best Snatch? Thanks for the videos and the information, greetings from Greece.
Make a lot of sense. But look like I need to work on a lot have a squat to do 160kg but with other lift I have the strength to do 125kg. But due to technique issue it only 90 so far.
Your analysis did not make sense for multiple reasons. You had no information on his push press, so you inferred it from his strict press, then somehow came up with a different potential max C&J for each lift. The push press is not a real data point, and obviously the inferred max C&J should be the same for both the push press and the press since the former was deduced from the latter. Counting them twice in your average also doesn't make sense since they're really only one data point. Additionally, in a clean and jerk either portion of the lift has to be the choke point, and thus if your max potential on one part of the lift - say the jerk - is 182.5 kg, then your max potential lift is 182.5 kg. The first two numbers you inferred are for the clean portion of the lift, and the last two are for the jerk. Let alone the fact that, as mentioned above, you're counting the press twice, you cannot take the average here. What you're in essence saying is that with a max potential clean of 217-228 kg and a max potential jerk of 182.5-200 kg, we can expect him to clean and jerk 215 kg. And it conveniently happens to be his actual max C&J. It's a conjuring act and not a mathematical demonstration. Now, obviously we do know that he clean and jerked more than 182.5 kg, so that means that your ratios are off and/or that the press is (unsurprisingly) not a great predictor of the jerk. The push press has much more carryover, and I would guess that he could do 170+ kg on that lift at the time he hit is his personal best C&J. Finally the reason Toshiki's ratios look funky is likely because of his body proportions. He seems to have short femurs and short arms : he's built to squat, not to pull. And so his clean will always look weak relative to his squat.
yeah, we see things differently is normal. I think his body proportions are very good for snatch and clean and jerk, we can see this one from his results.

Thanks Gabriel.
now you know why :)
This is a cool idea. Very informative and interesting
Glad you think so!
I’m loving the set-up of the videos recently. I can see it becoming a center and wealth of information about the Olympic lifts!
World class weightlifting coaching and math tutoring. Thanks!
My pleasure!
Wow, its so cool how you can relate all his lifts! Gives me a lot of ideas for my training.
Glad to hear it!
Great stuff Gabriel!
Thanks!
such a good idea for a series cant wait!
thx
I love your mathematics analysis! Hopefully you’ll make more of these!
thank you
I like this style with you writing with the pen , cool 😎
Thank you so much 😀
love the video Gabriel
That was certainly fun to watch! Hope you post more of these ⚡️
Thank you! Will do!
Next Clarence?
we can do that for sure
And yourself too Gabriel? What was your push press?
Clarence has already admitted he isn’t natural
I think his shoulder strength is his biggest limiting factor, I watched his japanese interview and he told us that he injured his elbow pretty hard and thats whats stops him from jerking more and his jerk is unstable and thats why we see him rotating
these calculations are new! I'll try to use them for my own clean and jerk analysis as well
This is incredible! I scaled it to my numbers, and it was 1kg off my actual pb... I think I'm going to keep using this equation.
great, I;m glad it was helped you
Great editing
Thanks!
I love analytical view on lifts, it gives another set of information on what things should the lifter be trying to work on
That was a real good video. Can you also do one for the projected snatch amount? I find your videos very informative.
at snatch is a bit more complicated, already have an video on my channel, were I'm explaining how to calculate your strength for snatch :)

Finally, a youtuber who pronounces Toshiki's name correctly!
thanks man
Yeah I wacht the interview he say he sucks at overhead movements,,,, I like this type of video nice dude this channel is getting super cool 😎
Awesome video,
Glad you enjoyed it
Good video. Well done and Thank you
Thank you too!
This is an incredible analysis
thank you
Great video!
Thanks!

really enjoy this type of video, more like this gabriel! also what is your pr in strict press and push press?
Hi Gabriel, next time could you show how you get the numbers, like exactly what percentages you used to find the amount toshiki can clean and jerk. I want to do this for myself too. Great video!
He calculates it with cnj * 1,28 = bsq so 250*1,28=320. Gabriel goes through the ratios in Sika Strength's video about squatting 🦾
omg! very very interesting. even taking a look for myself about my clean and jerk, i saw that im lifting less than the normal. thanks gabriel! its a really good information
You're so welcome!
Why did I get an ominous vibe when 215 popped out 😆
If I have learned something from this series, it's that weightlifters regularly neglect their presses.
Nice!
Thanks!
But how come Lasha doesn't even front squat?!
Thanks for another good video Gabriel
Lasha it's one in a million :)
@@gsincraian haha okay ^.^
@@smolboyi Lasha may not train front squats but I’m sure he has the strength to front squat over 300 kg if he wanted to.
Me trying to see the red font 🧐🧐

I’m pretty sure Klokov is the only weightlifter strict pressing 150
I think you didn't get the ideea of the video :)
So the 150/160 strict press was based only on his 321 back squat?
Most of the super heavies are probably close to that. Mogushkov did 170 or 175 on video. I think it was Klokov that said Chemerkin could press 200. Lovchev did 140 and Mart Seim did 150 for reps. hey Gabriel whats is your best strict press and push press, also did you ever do in training combination of push press + jerk?
What is your best PushPress? :)
180kg / never tested my max
worked weekly around 150/160 triples
Can you explain a little bit more why the clean deadlift is more useful than the clean pull?
Because clean pull is forcing you to fully extend, and in the clean or snatch you don't need to do that, only if you want to be slow and uncoordinated :)
thats a beeg strict press number to hit. but he should already have the mass to get in the 300s anyways.
For Squat Jerk should one add the five lifts but instead of push press put in overhead squat?
Also, how do you find the potential best Snatch?
Thanks for the videos and the information, greetings from Greece.
He has an injury right? He used to helicopter a lot, I assume due to shoulder instability
I’ve always wondered how his squat is so high but clean and jerk is a bit lower than it should be!
yeah, everyone was wondering that :)
Hi Gabriel
What about Keydomar? He also seems very strong in the legs but translation isn't very strong
I will add him on my list
Make a lot of sense.
But look like I need to work on a lot have a squat to do 160kg but with other lift I have the strength to do 125kg.
But due to technique issue it only 90 so far.
Lasha analysis would be very interesting, would-be head scratching how he does it, formula doesn't apply to that goat
Artyom Antropov C&J
He should do an analysis about why his snatch is so weak compared to his C&J
