I don't think their saying it's selfish to not want kids. I think their trying to say its selfish to be and stay with someone who really does. You may not want kids in the beginning but people change. It was a little seldish of Jeannie to stay in a relationship with him even if she was still in love with him. Love is not always enough.

I too am not sure I want kids for various reasons...but I wouldn't mind someone sharing their experience as a mother with me as a friend if I had just told about my marriage issue where my husband now wants kids. The only expectations mentioned in the clip above were those of her husband's (so i will assume you just randomly decided to talk about societies' standards since no one was bringing down her decision). They were trying to help her as SHE wanted the help with her troubling situation.

+Simply Dee OMG that is so true! I didn't want kids when I got married. I spoke to my then-wife several times about it before we got married to make sure we were on the same page. Two years in she took that agreement and threw it out the window. Three kids and several years later we're divorced and don't speak. You never try to force a person to bend to your will because it's what YOU want. It's a joint commitment. You must respect and honor that person's wishes.

She never said that he is demanding her to change her mind. That's an assumption. He's one of those people who's mind changed later on, and now that they have different desires, they need to work together to come to the best solution. That's why they're in counseling. No where did Jeannie say that he was pushing her to have kids. In fact, she stated multiple times that he kept saying he was "fine" against his better judgement. He was actually being considerate.

I don't harbor hate EVER in my heart, b/c it's just a waste of space.....however I #despise when single ppl or married ppl are condemned for NOT wanting kids. Just because God made you a woman, does not obligate you to have children. Some people are not made to be parents. Most people just don't get that. I myself am a married mother of 2 boys, one of which is by birth, the other by marriage. I never thought I'd see myself with ANY kids, let alone 2!! I also became a young mother at the age of 20, so in hind sight, if I didn't have oldest child then, I too probably wouldn't care to have children. Doesn't mean ppl don't necessarily DISLIKE kids, some are just not meant to be parents. Doesn't mean that they would be bad parents either. I think sometimes ppl put too much emphasis on marriage & children like it's a necessity. If I had neither, I'd still be the same person, just with ALOT more freedom to do as I please. Ppl should live they way they choose to, w/o consequence. Who cares if no one ever gets married. That's why it's called #CHOICES.

I can relate so much to Jeannie, I don't want kids I don't enjoy spending time with kids and not because I'm an angry cold-hearted person but I just don't have patience for that. I get so much hate because I say that. I believe a child needs love and 100% attention for both parents and I don't think I will be able to do that, I want to succeed in my career and a child would take more time away from my career. I guess what I'm trying to say is if Jeannie doesn't want a baby it doesn't make her less than a woman or a bad person, it makes her HER JEANNIE MAI! There's nothing wrong with not wanting kids.

I totally agree...Why choosing not to have a baby considered selfish? Men do that a lot of the times (choosing not to have a baby). Impregnate females and leave. Okay, not all of the time, but it does happen more so than females. Living your life like how you are use to is not considered selfish. People got to realize that having a baby has responsiblilites and if one doesn't want a baby because they don't want that responsiblity is not considered selfish, but is considered smart and responsible. It is like getting a loan on a house, car, signing up for college, etc. Some don't want that responsibility so they save up money to pay it in cash then to take out a loan. That is a choice that responsible people take. Also, having is baby is more that just "having a baby"...you have to go through surgery and pain...not that easy. If they magically appear then, yeah, let's have a baby.

I watch Jeannie Mai's personal youtube channel, and I found out that she was sexually assaulted by a family member every day from when she 9 until she was 16. Given those circumstances, I understand why she doesn't want children.
Being a parent is more than just homework and baby care. It's sending this beautiful innocent human being that you created out into a harsh world that probably won't be kind to them. Arming your child to deal with that is the hardest part of parenting, and it's a constant struggle. I completely understand why Jeannie wouldn't want to do that.
I can say my mom was the same exact way. She did want a baby but she didn't want to give up her career, her traveling, or her me time. When I was born my parents adapted. They traveled with me since I was born I have been all over the world with them.They took me out late at night to parities and they didn't let me change their lives. They say that our world didn't suddenly revolve around you instead you fit into our lives. Also my mom got a full time live in nanny that took care of me so when she went on business trips or stayed late at the office I still had someone there. My life was not normal but I had amazing experiences and I grew up to have a great relationship with my mother.
Jeannie, You don't have to have kids if you don't want to. Don't ever feel pressured. You need to hang out with people who ve chosen the same lifestyle as you. You are enough. Love you
Besides the baby talk, it was very real of Jeannie to admit she's going to marriage counseling. And I wish the sentiment was more popular without the undertone of embarrassment, if your marriage is worth fighting for pull out all the stops. Go to counseling, seek advice from trusted friends, heck entire some old married couples. It's not like we're born/taught how to be in a successful marriage so there should be absolutely no shame in seeking professional help.

I agree but, she's not saying that though. she didn't say that she has some biological problems. no everything is fine with her engine there is no faulty part at least to my knowledge based on what she has been saying for a long time now. But she doesn't want to entertain the idea of even carrying a child let alone adopting because that can be an option. how that cannot be selfish, when you see that your better half is hurting badly. come on people come on. You can see that nobody on the set, none of them agree with her, but out of respect they just don't want to disagree with her vehemently. but they are doing that politely something is not right with her she really need to see a psychologist. I'm proud to be a man because Freddy really honored us he showed. that not all men are trash. I hate the fact that women who choose not to have children a) have to explain the decision and b) feel the need to say that they're selfish. Maybe taking time to assess whether parenthood is for you is the greatest service to the world and whatever potential children you might have. More people need to take a beat on that decision.

Pressure Tamar to have another baby. question Loni about not being able to commit to anyone. These two are so quick to say something but the second someone wants to discuss something about them, Tamar resorts to being disrespectful and Loni resorts to bad jokes. Jeanie handles these segments about her 'flaws' (meaning they ain't flaws) really well.

I agree. The whole segment was pointless. They make a big deal around focusing on her and her life choices and when it comes to them, they are up in arms defensive. Jeannie is just the type like many people out there, who choose not to have kids. And I don't understand why they even discuss her personal choices in way that is negative. The entire table has uniqueness to the panel, Jeannie is there for other women who watch this show and have the same views as her.
I think they are right it will change her and her selfishness as it does a lot of moms with unplanned babies. It's still her decisions whether she is ready to make that change in her life. If she doesn't want it, then she shouldn't feel like she has to.

Loni, telling Jeannie to have one child to please her husband is TERRIBLY irresponsible! She does not desire children and so she should not have them, especially when they made an agreement in the beginning. If he wants babies he can go and find himself a woman who wants babies too and Jeannnie can go find herself an amazing childfree man. No child should come into the world to parents who does not want them.

What's also selfish is entering into a relationship with someone KNOWING they don't want children (a HUGE life decision) and then pressuring them to change their mind. Another thing that's selfish, is telling a woman who does not want children to have kids JUST to please someone else.

I think it's bad advice to encourage someone to have a child when they do not truly want one. Just because Tamar didn't want children and now is happy she had Logan doesn't matter. What if Jeannie has a child and ends up resenting that child because she couldn't do the things she use to do? Who is going to end up feeling guilty for having a child they didn't want? Jeannie. I really think she should stick to her guns on this issue and NOT have a child she clearly doesn't want. I have always known I didn't want children and if my spouse claims they feel the same and then changes their mind, that relationship will unfortunately end. There is no compromise of the subject of children, I shouldn't have to have children if I don't want them and my spouse should be able to have kids if they want them.

I think what tamar is trying to say is that she was wear Jennie currently is... and now loves being a mom and that yes it's a tough job but u can balance a career and motherhood at the same time. But both of them have to come to a decision and decide what's right for their marriage
I don't think Tamar is trying to convince her to have a child, moreso explaining another perspective for her to look at. Each friend is going to give her their perspective so she has a way to look at different outcomes. That's a part of what friends are for, we can't live other lives so our friends help us to see a different perspective.
If anyone watched the episode of braxton family values when vincent was on life support and right before that they were fighting over him wanting a baby and her not..... that's when she changed her mind about having a baby said she didn't want to have this li f e with the love of her life and if he passed she has nothing of what they had
I always swore I wanted just one. Hitting my 30's and still being broke, well, I want another, but know I shouldn't. Though, it is good to share thoughts with women who don't have/want kids, so that they may weigh the risks of having, or not having kids. It''s good to see both sides of the fence.
I absolutely love the show, but I just hope that what the girls reveal or talk about on the show will not strain or have a negative effect on their marriages or families. Not going to lie, I was afraid of what Jeannie's husband might think since she revealed such a personal issue that they are dealing with right now on national television.

First, I commend Jeanie for having the courage to admit and share her personal feelings on the subject of having children and the effects of her decision on her marriage. I also acknowledge how supportive and positive her co-workers are with her and her thoughts. As far as the topic itself, I believe that the process of carrying the baby is not for everyone, but once the baby is born; selfish people become unselfish...some quicker than others. People think that every woman gets excited about the idea of having a baby or should want to have the experience of having a baby. Truth is a lot of women have anxieties about it at some point in time. As Tamar stated, once you look at your baby, you see your husband and you....those anxieties melt away. You know there isn't anything you wouldn't do for your child. The love that flows between parents and the child fill the hearts until they overflow, before you know it your house is so full of love. It can be an amazing experience when fear and doubt are removed and replaced with peace of mind and certainty. Ultimately, if you want a happy marriage, a compromise has to be reached and done so very soon. I wonder if Jeanie is selfish with her husband? If so, did he not fall in love with that part of her as well? If so, can he not see how much that truth effects her decision to not have children? Idk dualzz, this is a tough one to crack.....but Imna pray for her and her husband. Let God make that choice for her and her husband. Amen
I feel bad for jeannie. Not wanting to have kids does not make you a selfish person. Its her life, her relationship, her decision. No one should judge her and push their own beliefs on her because everyone is entitled to their own decisions. As long as she and her husband are happy, that is all that matters.

Jeannie is beyond right for not having a child if she doesn’t want one. My mom never wanted kids because she liked going out and partying and had two because my dad wanted kids. My mom ended up going right back to her partying and going out when the fun part of having babies was over and it caused a lot of problems amongst my family especially with me and my sister. As a child of a parent that didn’t want kids if you don’t fully want to be a parent don’t become one because once you become one you’ll always be one and if you’re life can’t be mainly centered around what’s best for the child then it’s best to not have one in the first place.

having a baby does not guarantee you fall in love with it and being a mother!!!! my sister hated kids, got pregnant, obviously not planned, had her son and still dislikes children. her son doesn't have her motherly love, just the bare minimum care, something a baby sitter could supply with. it's really sad! I step in as much as possible and play with him and sing and read but there is only so much I can do as an auntie. I've seen this time and time again. it does not guarantee a life change for the better when having a baby.

I respect Jeannie for not wanting to have children. Children are a serious commitment. There are so many mothers out there who have babies and resent their children especially their daughters. A lot of children are suffering because the adults that brought them to this world see them as nothing but a burden. I'm a product of that. My mother never wanted to have a girl and she abused me my entire life and I was born into dysfunctional poverty stricken family. If you can't provide for a baby then don't make one. If you don't feel like you have that desire to have a child and give it love then do have one. Life is already hard as it is.

People ask me why I don't have kids, I turn right around and ask why do you have kids. They stutter and get an attitude. So now you know what it feels like to ask stupid questions. Their reason may be medically not able and they don't need the reminder. Who is going to take care of me when I'm old? The Lord and my money. Wouldn't be nursing homes and foster homes if kids and parents were just the most amazing thing. Leave people alone with their decision!

Why choosing not to have a baby considered selfish? Men do that a lot of the times (choosing not to have a baby). Impregnate females and leave. Living your life like how you are use to is not considered selfish. People got to realize that having a baby has responsiblilites and if one doesn't want a baby because they don't want that responsiblity is not considered selfish, but is considered smart and responsible. It is like getting a loan on a house, car, etc. Some don't want that responsibility so they save up money to pay it in cash then to take out a loan. That is a choice that responsible people take. Also, having is baby is more that just "having a baby"...you have to go through surgery and pain...not that easy. If they magically appear then, yeah, let's have a baby.

Not everyone is meant to be a parent, however if your partner wants to be a parent it is not fair to keep that away from him. Jeannie you may have to say goodbye to the relationship because there is another woman out there for him that will give him the joy of being a parent. I don't think it is fair for him and for you.

It's no one's fault. No one changes their mind to have children like they're changing clothes. It's a biological need that he cannot control. And it's not Jeannie's fault either. Its an unfortunate circumstance that they're both trying to find a solution for by going to counseling. What I think is disgusting are the people playing the "blame game" as well as those giving unsolicited advice to her.

It's not fair for both parties if the relationship is not satisfying their needs. This isn't petty stuff like he wanted to buy a car and she disagreed; he wants a child. And if she can't provide that for him, there's nothing wrong with her or her decision; they might just have to go their separate ways if after therapy, they still can't come to an agreement.

She was smart in not having a baby just because it was an issue in her marriage . Put it this way- had she had a child to please her husband , she’d resent him and ultimately feel as tho that’s what it took to “save their marriage” . She would be like “wow you didn’t really love me for me then , you would have left me had I decided to never have children for you .” Basically she took her chances . Like “hey if he leaves me because I didn’t want to have children then he must not truly love me for me . If he truly loves me he will stay even if it means no children . “ POINT BLANK. We still don’t know if Jeannie May change her mind . Now she has the opportunity to meet a wonderful man that really does truly love her for her and who knows, maybe she’ll feel it in her heart to give that man a child .
After watching that other video about how Jeannie is really afraid of not being able to take care of her family, I think this is really sad because I feel like that fear might be what is really holding her back from the kids, and I think in the back of her mind she might have always wanted them, but was able to feel at ease when she made that agreement with her husband, but now that he seems to regret that decision it is hurting her. But anyway, I love this show and all of the people on the panel, especially Jeannie, because she is so funny and nice and unique and I love it when she dances.

No hate, just an update: June 2020, she has divorced her husband for apparently this very reason, is now dating the type of guy she said she was attracted to on the show, and is rumored to be pregnant with his child.

I think she knows who she is, and knows children are not for HER right now. It's fantastic that she is HONEST with herself and not having a child just to "see if she can do it" or please another person. There's is nothing, nothing, nothing, wrong with that. I don’t think anybody should be deciding whether or not another person should have kids or not. Nothing wrong with advice but the pressure is a no can do. It is important though for these conversations to happen BEFORE PEOPLE GET DEEPLY INVOLVED. Nobody should be getting married assuming the other person wants children.

Aww this was such a great moment! You guys are such great friends and that really showed, camera on or off! I feel like yes, Jeannie is entitled to some selfishness to her & her husband but it really is her being content.. It's later on in life when she'll wish she had a child and want that company & bond..She's at an age where it's time to make the call. A child will be a beautiful thing I'm sure and she has all the support! I feel like also, though her marriage is going so smoothly, this will always be a bump in the road for them in the future because her husband will continue to have these feelings & she'll always feel bad... Just wanna say I know all the ladies mean well! Tamera u hit the nail on the head! U R so right! No matter how hard one may want to try and bring a baby in for the marriage/partner. It is NOT fair.... For ANYONE to be pressured into bringing a baby into this world that u don't feel ready for ...for WATEVER reason! I understand all the... change for the better ...that Tamar is talking about...but absolutely NOT! WHEN SOMEONE SAYS...they are not ready to bring a child into this world...that's a very serious statement/powerful...and should not be swayed by anything or anyone else's thoughts! Coz at the end of the day... Jeannie is the one who will be fully responsible for that kid as a mother...and if she's not ready for motherhood.... for WATEVER reason...she should listen to her gut! Period! Think Jeannie knew deep down that her childhood trauma is/was... wats holding her back. She got therapy... healed broken relationship with mother ... In a healthier marriage now...and here we are! I myself SUFFERED childhood abuse by a family member for years ...never had children...as a result! I TOTALLY understand Jeannie hesitancy in this interview...glad she's in a better place!
Women who choose not to have a child are brave. SO much pressure is put on the shoulders of women to have children. Not everyone is interested in raising another human. I admire YOU Ms. Mai for sticking to your guns.
I've known a couple who have been married to each other for 30 years. Couldn't conceive a child, found out the wife was unable to produce children. They are in their 60s now and are happily married with dogs to take care of. They still think about what their life would have been with children, but don't get sad about it. They quickly change the subject and are like, oh well, we got dogs now to take care of, I think that's enough responsibility lol. They both still act like they are in their 20s so life hits different for them.
