My daughter is 5'8. Went to ABT and Joffrey before and now wants to try our for PNB next week in Los Angeles. We heard great things about this Summer Intensive and one of my other daughter's teachers got a scholarship at PNB when she was young. We are looking forward to the audition.
@Sanchara As a pre-professional school, we unfortunately do not have any cross-training classes, however most studios will offer open classes for all levels throughout the summer. You should check those out, since yes it's true, ballet can be beneficial for all sports!
This looks like such an amazing program! I would LOVE to go to something like this, but having started ballet at 13, there's no way I'd ever be good enough.
@LuckyLoveProductions While our company dancers can attend the University of Seattle through our Second Stage program, the only classes we offer are ballet classes!
Hello. I'm from Spain. I think is very dificult, but beautiful to dance ballet. I ztarted to dance when I was only 2 years old. I want to be profesional dancer. Luck who wants the same. ♥
I am 32 as well and just started ballet. I too wanted to learn proper ballet and not a dancercise kind of thing so I asked around at dance studios and found a studio and a talented teenager willing to teach me. I have only been in class for 1 month so far but I am loving it! Good luck and I hope you find a good teacher who will take you seriously.
@frogsrock99 The expectation at our summer program is to be taking pointe class in Level IV (ages 12-13) and above. Talk to your teacher about when it's appropriate for you to begin pointe class!
Dana Hanson studied at SAB during the year but would attend the summer intensive (along with lots of other SAB students) at PNB and was in my class before she was invited into NYCB. She's from the Seattle area and it's nice to see her teaching now at the school.
I really want to get into dance! however, I'm already 14, with no experience, and since I have 2 sisters that are going to college in the span of 2 years I don't think I'll be able to afford doing it :( But they are absolutely amazing! It brings me happiness to watch others do something that I can only wish that I could do. Good just anyone and everyone who dances!
PNB is one of the few schools in this country that employs a written syllabus, based primarily on Balanchine technique (especially with regards to an emphasis on speed and clarity and certain adaptations such as pirouettes from a deep lunge, back leg straight, etc). Its founder, Francia Russell is a former NYCB soloist and NYCB ballet mistress who stages Balanchine's ballets all over the world and, along with Kent Stowell, was heavily influenced by him (same goes for Boal of course).
Thanks for the motivation! Most people at dance kind of look down on me because I quite and then restarted, so I took a year break.... :( It sucks because that set me back a lot I'm pretty sure.
I really want to audition for this but I'm 17 and I've only been doing pointe for a year and am only at Intermediate RAD Ballet. I train very hard but unfortunately I didn't get serious about dance until a year ago so I'm very behind age wise. Its my dream to dance with a ballet company but I feel like I've already failed and am too old to accomplish my goals. Dance doesn't come particularly easy to be but I am NOT going to give up. I want this so much. I don't know what I'd do without dance.
lock heart many famous people got rejected 100’s of times but they still tried and tried until they got where they wanted. You should absolutely try and try until you get to your goal even if you do get rejected
@rasberryxoxo14 Of course it is! I didn't start until I was 14, and I'm now in advanced one ballet, and I've only been dancing for two years! I've already done 3 exams, grade 3 and 4, and Intermediate ballet. And I've got another one coming up in Easter. Definitely go for it, otherwise you'll regret not taking the chance!
Chom Chumie then do it! I stopped for a while too and I'm just now about to get back into full time training. Good luck to you! Don't give up on yourself! 🙂🙂
do you ever have cross-training camps for gymnasts/skaters ect. who study ballet to improve our sport performance? Ballet is a really popular cross-training method in a lot of these sports but studios tend to not have classes over the summer.... if you did offer such a camp next year I'd be like the first one on the sign up sheet!
I still wish I could dance like them, and not be an undancer with terrible turnout, weak ankles and no tour-abilty at all. Why can't I make 32 fouettes or a tenthquadraple pirouette? :( Though, this inspires me to train more and work much harder.
Is there a video of your open program? I'm a very later beginner (32), and while I'm taking classes up in Oak Harbor, the adult class I'm in is more of the get-in-shape-screw-the-technique-and-dance-in-sweats kind. I want a class that places emphasis on technique. I'm not trying to go pro here (I'm realist, lol!), but I want to dance and be proud of what I do. I want to give ballet the respect it deserves. I googled your open program online, and I would dearly love to see how your class is!
@hrsdance 19 i've been there twice, yes being a top notch ballet intensive most of the girls have ballet bodies but not all. they appreciate talent, not a cookie cutter dancer. try your best and audition!!
Are there classes available for students in the mid-teen level for learning the fundamentals and begginer ballet? I did ballet for 2 years when I was very very young, and I would love to be able to go back to it :) Thanks!
Hey, I'm from Brazil and I'm going to live in Seattle for 6 months. I'm 16 and have been doing ballet for 12 years. I'm searching for a Ballet Academy in the city for classes.. What do you guys think of PNB ? Any suggestions ?
Is this for people only in the studio ? I really want to take this next summer I will be 16 is that to old I really want to be a professional dancer when I grow up
I am 15 going into pre-pointe this year and I'm planning to take a summer program and they could possibly move me up to a higher level in pointe if I am good enough. I am wondering if even if I work hard enough I would be behind and that it is too late. Am I too old to be a professional dancer someday? My Ballet teacher says she sees lots of peotential so I hope I can pursue a career and or go to your summer course (:
I'm quite curious as to why some of you guys can start pointe after only about 3 years of training? Over here, we need to train for 10 years in the least with 1.5h lessons a week. May I ask why some of you can start pointe so early? Won't your ankles still not be strong enough? :)
I was born in Seattle and my last name is Mercer, so whenever my family visits, everyone is like MERCER??? And I'm like... yeah. I wanted to go to this summer intensive so badly but it was the same time as my one back in Salt Lake ): Maybe next year!
@megannekait If you are serious about your training (whether or not you want to be a professional), auditioning is a valuable skill to have, so we encourage everyone to do it! Talk to your teacher, they will have advice on how to improve your flexibility.
i think you'd be too old to audition for this particular one because they have girls already ready for companies, but there has to be something for adults/beginners!
PNB Summer Course students have to be between 12 and 18 years old. There are other ballet company summer programs that will take college age students though.
There is an audition tour all over the country in January every year. You can find the dates and times at their website in late November or December. There is a fee for the class (about $40). No photos required. Come early so you can fill out the form, sign in, and get your number. It is a GREAT program! I have been there three times, and going back for my fourth summer.
i did there audition and it was the worst dance expirence ive ever had! im 4,10 so the director told me to stand in the back and made me switch places with a tall girl and i was not even watched once! it really lowered my self esteem and i came out feeling defeated.
It shows Elizabeth Murphy as a student and now she is a principal in the company
You are correct, Elizabeth Murphy was promoted in 2015!
My daughter is 5'8. Went to ABT and Joffrey before and now wants to try our for PNB next week in Los Angeles. We heard great things about this Summer Intensive and one of my other daughter's teachers got a scholarship at PNB when she was young. We are looking forward to the audition.

This looks like such an amazing program! I would LOVE to go to something like this, but having started ballet at 13, there's no way I'd ever be good enough.
I started at ten, which is also kind of late. I know I’m 6 years late, but I hope you followed your dream and are still dancing! ❤️
You must provide your own pointe shoes for summer course... once you're in the company, then they'll provide them for you!
@TheDaNcEr2303 The audition dates will be posted on our website before the month of November is over! Check back soon!

@mariinskylover9 It all depends on your previous training, but at PNBS we offer pas de deux classes for Level VI-VIII (approx. ages 15-18)
@frogsrock99 The expectation at our summer program is to be taking pointe class in Level IV (ages 12-13) and above. Talk to your teacher about when it's appropriate for you to begin pointe class!

@pacificnwballet *UPDATE* Audition dates are posted on our website!
pnb is my dream :) didn't make it into school program :(
Wow! This looks very impressive. I really wish I could afford this. Congrats to all who can
Who else is watching this while stretching before class? XD
wait u guys stretch before dance
@@hannahrod9711 You DON'T? If you dont stretch you're stiff, and it's horrible for your muscles
Morgan Taylor hahahah i do i was just making a joke :)
@@hannahrod9711 oh sorry 🤣
I loved PNB!! Amazing program!!!!! It has been my favorite so far!

@IxBitexRawr With the proper training, 12 years old is the proper age to start your pointe work--you would not be behind!
Yay! I'm so pumped! Going there this summer!(:
i wanna go there
it really is a fantastic program, really beneficial. i've gone for 2 years, and really want to go back. :) everyone is really nice there, as well.
turn out is always important, it doesn't have to be PERFECT though. and pirouettes are straight back leg with a large 4th.
they are allowed for variations/rep, modern, jazz, and partnering :)
I really want to audition for this but I'm 17 and I've only been doing pointe for a year and am only at Intermediate RAD Ballet. I wish I had that opportunity near where I live 😣

@masha5maria1965 Why yes of course, we take students from all over the world!
This looks like a great and well rounded program!
i wishhhhhh i could attend the summer program! it looks amazing!
The Summer Course is 5 weeks long.
I love this!!! can u imagine? ballet all day long! in summer! thats amazing!! I really want this I need to get it :') KEEP DANCING!
would love to go here!!
I really wish I could go there. I'm to young but I hope I can go there when I'm older. If it's doing well and it's still there
@eddiejulia Students must be between 12-18 years old!
@rasberryxoxo14 Of course it is! I didn't start until I was 14, and I'm now in advanced one ballet, and I've only been dancing for two years! i really enjoyed this prgram. i would definitely recommend it to others :)
i'd love to do this!
I did ballet but quit since i got sink since our outfits has big holes at the back and the room was cold too and I WANNA DO ITAGAIN

@TaimaNaima We take students from all over the world! email: pnbschool@pnb.org and ask about submitting a DVD audition!
The Elizabeth Murphy in this video is now a principle!!!
Are there classes available for students in the mid-teen level for learning the fundamentals and begginer ballet? I did ballet for 2 years when I was very very young, and I would love to be able to go back to it :) Thanks!
Yes, we offer scholarships based on financial need, class performance and potential for a professional career. For more info: 206.441.2435
how long do you stay for the summer course? Because since it's overnight we need to have enough clothes and toiletries to last

gosh in the beginning isn't it the the sims song?
I would love to go to something like this but i would get home sick easily.
how old do you have to be to go and do you have to know how to do ballet already?
Is this for people only in the studio ? I really want to take this next summer I will be 16 is that to old I really want to be a professional dancer when I grow up
I really want to go to the summer program this year. Do you have a specific body type or look to work on?
I am 15 going into pre-pointe this year and I'm planning to take a summer program and they could possibly move me up to a higher level in pointe if I am good enough. i'm 14 and i just started at age of 13 .. :( it looks so great but i think i never would be able to do that..
I'm 13, and I just got on pointe but im in Grade 1 (cecchetti syllabus) will I be able to audition ?
i will be 19 in feb next year. will i be too old? i really would love to audition. i am from sydney australia
Do you have to bring your own point shoes to the summer intensives? Or do they provide them?
Alejandra Ruiz why the hell would they provide pointe shoes to like 200 female students..??.. such a stupid question
I'm quite curious as to why some of you guys can start pointe after only about 3 years of training? Over here, we need to train for 10 years in the least with 1.5h lessons a week. May I ask why some of you can start pointe so early? Won't your ankles still not be strong enough? :)
@balletdancer247 We'd suggest contacting the school and asking about sending in a DVD--email: pnbschool@pnb.org
I was born in Seattle and my last name is Mercer, so whenever my family visits, everyone is like MERCER??? And I'm like... yeah. I wanted to go to this summer intensive so badly but it was the same time as my one back in Salt Lake ): Maybe next year!

I'm 13 and I've been doing ballet for 11 years and point for 2 1/2 years. What level do you think I'd be ready for?
Is it possible to be a ballet dancer if you start at 15?
What level must you be to attend id love to have this experience im 15 but not on pointe yet
hi,i speak a little bit english. but. i want a dance there, you have a scholarships? im venezuelan.
Amazing video, thanks!
Hii :) Does anyone know of any ballet summer camps in South Africa ? Thanks x
i think you'd be too old to audition for this particular one because they have girls already ready for companies, but there has to be something for adults/beginners!
How hard was it to get in?
I know this is a super weird question but can you do summer intensive if you're no longer in school?
As long as you fit the basic requirements like age and stuff, that shouldn't be a problem! 😊
Jae Bunny how old do you think is too old?
+Zephie lovet it definitely depends on the program, but sadly most summer intensives are offered until 17 yrs old :c
Jae Bunny ah. Thank you
PNB Summer Course students have to be between 12 and 18 years old. There are other ballet company summer programs that will take college age students though.
@frogsrock99 i'm the same! ballet is my passion and i can't wait to get on pointe
do you need to audition for the summer program?
Yes!

Leah Miller dont worry. Pnb is for tall people lol, they only take dancers 5,8 and above
