I really wanted to do something different! This is an outlier in my top album list this year! The music is very different from what I am listening to right now! But this album really resonated with me and has grown on me! The album does not all sound like this! There is variation! It snuck up on me after many listens! Hope this finds an audience of some sort. Even if it is a small audience!

I am sure it will. Just give it some time. I listened to the song 2 more times while editing 🤘

      Mr. Eric! Bravo!
Take a listen to these bands; Týr, Vintersorg, Insomnium, Anciient, Aquilis, In the Silence, Wintersun, Paradise Lost (they change in their mid period, then go back to their "Draconian Times" sound, which I prefer), and more can be found at my comment (Pirates of The Underground) at the latest Community page posting by N&L. I think you'll find more music that will extend that Iotunn sound :).

*WOO HOO!!! 1 Comment and 113 views in 7 Hours!!!!* (and the commenter is the requester 😄) . . .
So these guys have been getting into a LOT of Best of Metal for 2024 Lists. I have only heard a few tracks all the way back from their (full-length) debut album "Access All Worlds" from 2021. But this track definitely makes me want to hear more! Love the vocals with the aggression (has a "Týr" and "Vintersorg" vibe).
Somehow we need to get the Opeth, Paradise Lost, Katatonia, Wintersun fans here. The niche' type of Metalheads that are open to new (past 25 years) and different types of Metal. Eric is MUCH like me, we crave new music with the old, classics and what's fallen through the cracks. There is soo much to be explored, and many not necessarily with "Cookie Monster" vocals (but that's not a bad thing either). But I get it, not many _here_ don't like it, for some it takes time. But lots of great melodic singers in Prog Metal.
Of course Nick brings up great points (the mixing, but it's not too bad, but the drumming is part of the _style_of the music, even with the guitar soloing) and what he likes about this track.
But Nickoli, you definitely need to hear more of a "Variety" of Metal because you're not used to getting out of your comfort zone with the type of sound and timbre you've grown into. That is why a few of us have inundated you with some interesting CD's over the years that will expose all the subgenres (and "other" musics). I think if you "snack" on a track or 2 from a CD on your own, you'll want to React to other tracks, and certain ones with Lexi 🙂.
I still think you should put 2 (or 3) _specific_ days dedicated to Metal ("Metal With Nick") that you recommend, and from requests. That way certain people can tune-in and see what will be waking up the neighbors!💿🤯
    - Loved this Eric! Again, thank you for helping Nick (and Lexi) explore more in this vast ocean of Metal, Progressive Rock & Prog Metal!
    Take another shot folks! (Holdsworth!)🍸🍺🍹

I appreciate the support! Honestly I am shocked this has as many views as it does
! This album is really good. Good enough to sneak into my top ten album of the year list! I encourage you to seek this one out! After repeated listens it has become one of my favorites! 🤘

Metal is my comfort zone Tony! What are you talking about? I wish I had the time to cover all types of Metal music but as you can see we get completely ignored. I have been listening to the new Opeth non-stop with growling and I love it! I could do metal with nick but its a lot of work and nobody watches it 😭I will do some Watchtower for my own enjoyment. Lets see if we get over 100 views? I want to get Ron Jarzombek on the show but I cant even promise Ron any views or sales either. Trust me its not me. I am recording music myself every day and that drum track is too loud!! That was an ego trip. In music you're supposed to let your bandmates shine and breathe not play over them all. Other than that the track is a masterpiece!

From the Goat Review dot org : The flat and loud production of that album did the drums no favor, and this problem looms larger over Kinship as their impact is even less. ( I am not even a reviewer, even less a professional reviewer. )😉

@@NicknLex *"Metal **_is_** my comfort zone Tony!"*
Nick my friend, that's not what I meant. I know Metal is something you really enjoy. What I mean is from all you've shared with us over the years about what you were able to hear and purchase in Mexico, and what you've gotten "into", it comes from a _certain style and era_ of Metal (as you said at 3:40).
@ 13:56 is what you have said many times and @ 17:48. This is what I meant by _"you definitely need to hear more of a "Variety" of Metal because you're not used to getting out of your comfort zone with the type of sound and timbre you've grown into."_ It was those comments that I wanted to emphasize to take a chance on other subgenres . . .
I am soo happy you've been listening to Opeth's "Last Will and Testament" because it's a style of Metal that has broadened the horizons of soo many people who follow metal music, and those that actually "didn't" like Metal, or thought Metal was, for lack of a better word; Unintelligent, or not "musical".
@ 20:58 Beautiful! That is exactly why I send you Playlists, to Eric, Rudi, Lee and a couple of others, the stuff NO ONE talks about (well, a few reactor/musicians do, but it's always a HUGE surprise), and obviously you understand that to our collective sadness.
But as I said, please SHARE the "other" tracks you haven't heard (from any band), I mean there has got to be OTHER Metalheads out there that haven't found you yet. I'm looking at "287 Views" and I would have to presume at-least 25+ viewers enjoyed this.
*"Trust me its not me. I am recording music myself every day and that drum track is too loud!! That was an ego trip. In music you're supposed to let your bandmates shine and breathe not play over them all."*
Well again, it's the _style_ of this music, maybe it's the mix too, but, these musicians are composing as a "band", not as individuals. It's also for the storytelling and what the (heavy) sound reflects in the emotions from the lyrical content.
I just listened again to the reaction (obviously :p) but this time on my speakers instead of on headphones, and I could hear the soloing clearly and the drums were _behind_ it clearly as well. Maybe it needed more separation, but they are a young band (only 2 full length albums). They'll probably hear other things that they will already improve on.
I mean come on Nick, I don't have a "Tin Ear" either 😉, I've been listening to a WIDE range of various music since 1965 (at 3 years old). And used to create insane "Mix-Tapes" when I was 18, intertwining sound fx, dialogue from movies, news, etc. between and within the music. So I've had to edit (and _spice_ into the middle of a track without hearing the "click"), rewind/forward/pause/start music over and over, that I started to hear what's going on in the "space" of the studio of the music tracks, or background noise from Lp's, but it's not on the CD.
      Example:
Rainbow's live album (On Stage), on the song "Catch the Rainbow" has a feedback squeal when Dio introduces the song and again before the song starts - I always wait for it, its just a cool thing to hear :p. But on the CD version, it's not there! I think it's because of the frequency didn't pick-up on the transfer.
Or how about that no one talks about the "Reprise" that occurs on Yes's "Does it Really Happen" from Drama. On the _original pressing_ it "fades in" (on the original pressing of the CD as well), but in the Remaster, it _abruptly_ starts. I notice stuff Nick, I'm no slouch 😋. Also playing guitar for years (not very well) and doing weird stuff with stomp boxes, and creating sound patches on a Korg Guitar Processor, it all made me appreciate production and what went into the mixing. I wish I could have learned how to be a Mixing Engineer when the recording industry was more stable.
I have been listening to a "New" Old School Thrash band called "Void" from Louisiana, and their latest single release "Return of the Phantom", after the Classical Intro, all the sudden the sound of the actual band playing goes FLAT in the mix! I mean it's SUPER noticeable, it has no dynamic. Its the one thing that hurts the song. Go check it out on headphones.
*"I am not even a reviewer, even less a professional reviewer."* But you have the EAR .
Who says YOU are not a "Professional" Reviewer? What is a Professional _Reviewer_ anyway? Just someone who puts themselves out-there with the knowledge they've collected through the years. Maybe a "working" Producer, mixing engineer or a musician is a Professional, but YOU have the ear too, and reviews are just "opinions". How many (air quotes) "Pro Journalists" from Rolling Stone dumped on Led Zeppelin, Rush, HOLDSWORTH and whatever other bands! . . . What do they know! Its all opinions and they get paid for it.
I am ALWAYS glad, supportive and really _listen_ to you when you react, talk about and take chances on ANY genre of music, that especially, not many folks know about. I REALLY hope you continue, but don't let the LOW Views deter you from enjoying and _sharing_ these musics to the uninitiated. I still believe the Metalheads and Proggers will come around, but you have to keep "putting it out there" for them to hear it.
      - I hope too that you know I LOVE seeing what you and Lexi have in store for us each week! As you guys are my A-No.1 Reactors that I watch (and catch-up on) on a regular basis.
. . . so, there! 😛😜🤪😝And YES! "Control and Resistance" Watchtower to enlighten your viewers! Woo Hoo!🤯
