    Oh new map changes but still wished they update the maps to be at least 1200m and bring back the old maps. Lots of memories with them

      WG said they won't bring back old maps because it "takes way more resources to revamp and bring back an old map (like Pearl River), rather than make a new one from scratch" - quote from a WG employee

      That's a lie. If it's simple to make a new one, simply make a new one based on an old map. It's simple to copy. And in the end, even if the new map is not exactly the same, who cares, old and new players would be happy.

      Why? I love sitting behind the bunker on the top of the eastern spawn ridge and just hammering them while they can't hit me without extreme luck.

      Yeah, cause that map minus the beach is better really. It just needs to be bigger also. Bases are too close to each other.

      One thing I realized is that whoever wins the beach almost always loses the game afterwards
      Whoever wins the beach usually have either more tanks or higher tier tanks. Then they're incentivized to push. Then they die to TDs or anyone who comes back to defend.
      Lets say team 1 brought 2 tanks and team 2 brought 5, team 2 wins, team 1 loses 2 tanks
      Team 2 tries to push, then loses 5 tanks
      This is oversimplified but yeah

    there was no need to delete te beach, i mean, it fits into the historic context, just move the red line and thats enough, but i believe newbie players could enjoy the view, the beach is the historic context of the map.

    I think Overlord should be about the beach. Spawn on the beach and bases up in the fields on top of the cliff. Thanks Des for the video

      ​@@wdinnsthey should just place the capture zone in such a way that half of it is on top of the hill and half of it is on the beach. Would be interesting to see. Though it can also be annoying late game.

    I think the beach in Overlord worked as an iconic part of the map, I like the playable area changes, but don't think removing all the sand area that created the scenery was necessary.

      Exactly, removing the beach makes it stop looking like Normandy. All they had to do was move the border to make the beach visible but inaccessible lol

      If they didn't have the water they would have just had to have invisible walls and probably would have just had to block the entire bit below the cliff, they have added the water so you can go down to certain bits of the beach and use them, but don't just have silly invisible walls blocking off bits you can clearly see, instead they restrict access with the water. What they have done makes sense to me.

    I hear what you're saying on the isolation of the beach on Overlord, but this is gonna be one of those places where some people liked it just because of it's nod toward history. It definitely feels very historical, for what it is. Not sure I'm a huge fan of it being removed for that reason, though I don't really know how they'd have fixed it, either. I DO think they shoulda added a little more to the new fields though, but will see when it's put into play.
    Also, on Highway, the big thing about that river coming out is the terrain came up. A lot less hill for super heavies to try and climb up to get into the city on that side.

There was no need to remove the beach, especially for what it was symbolic of. That's where peeps are gonna be kinda irked. And spitting on that is the same problem that every game studio ever in modernity pretty much all exhibit. Try harder.

      @@dwonatampatricio4250 except water graphics tend to be one of the most taxing things for people's PC to load. Not static sand, in which, several of those static details are still there. Like the ships. And it's not like every wargaming map doesn't have a ton of excess surrounding details to load anyway. It just wasn't necessary to flood it. But, flooding things seems to be their solution to so many things of late.
      Based on a quick scroll of the comments, you're definitely in the minority. So, go troll someone else with arguing over silly things.

      My guess would be they wanted some of the beach playable but didn't just want invisible walls so the water makes it more intuitive and immersive to go down on certain bits of the beach but it prevents you from going on others, rather than just have some bits of the beach clearly there but blocked by invisible walls.

      I'd like to see a (more or less) random spawned variant of each map for every game. Sometimes there is a rock, sometimes a Bush, sometimes a hill.

    Dez, The whole purpose of Overlord map was to make a map that resembled Omaha beach. They literally removed it now.. They could have made the beach more playable. Added more cover and more routes to play. At the least, they never should have flooded it with water. I would have kept it but blocked off the parts you didn't want players going. The visual aspect of the actual beach was excellent for a WW2 based game.

    What happened to the Airfield changes? They looked great compare to the rubbish the map is now.
    Also congrats on the 13 years, you've always been a bastion of chill and easy viewing for WoT, never a hint of toxicity anywhere. This is top be respected and admired.

    I absolutely love the openness of the current Highway map. It seems like the upcoming changes are trying to address how difficult it is to progress beyond some points on the current map. The current map rewards the brave players (but not the brainless players). We'll just have to see how the new map plays out.
    I thought the entire purpose of calling a map "Overlord" was to include the beach assault. I appreciate the additional open area on the east flank. I almost never play on the beach flank. However, I will miss the extra dimension and variety that the beach brought to the Overlord map.

      I would disagree with that, the map rewards campers which is not a brave way of playing nor one that requires much thought. It is also clearly unbalanced, the north team get to drive into the city without being spotted or shot at, the South team can be crippled just trying to get into the city and they have a slower path because they have to go up hill. North then can retreat out of their city more easily with plenty of cover and fall back positions, but not the same for south. North also can camp base far more easily, there is really no incentive pushing out of their strong ridge positions until they have a huge advantage. The field in highway is generally useless because of this as well, like there is little point winning it or the far north west corner as camping base is far more advantageous for both teams, especially north. My worry with those changes is it seems they have given south basically a base camping hill as well that looks potentially even stronger for base camping and that is not a good solution either.

      ​@@tajj7 Agree, the've added some positions that seem pretty strong if you put a bunch of TD's there, but overall I really like the changes on both maps. Current Overlord is one of the absolute worst maps in the game IMO, alongside Paris and Airfield.

    it seem WG are heading even more down the line of screwing over TD lines to keep meds and lights happy .... WG might aswell remove TDs while they are at it cause old TDs can not cope with map changes cause of either fixed guns or limited depression angles.. GG WG GG :(

      Yeah, and also promote all the positions that can be bombarded by clickers, and remove all the cover. Because promoting a gameplay that is not fun to play as, and is anti-fun to play against, that has to be a great idea. Isnt it?

    There was a reason some tanks went beach because the rest of the map was unplayable without gun depression and all the TDs camping back. Looks like now there might be some new push opportunities but seems to be a great LT map now. Highway - don't know why they change it, didn't think it was bad. But when will they fix mines? Maybe add another way onto hill and limit it to tier 6, far too small for any higher tiers than that.

    So 'Overlord' isn't Overlord anymore (was the overall code name for WW2 invasion plans which included operation 'Neptune' the invasion beach lodgement). To be historically accurate the new map should be named for subsequent allied breakout operations, either 'Goodwood', 'Cobra', or even 'Falaise' at a stretch.

    For highway and the "losing" city spawn - by removing the river and leveling out the terrain (and giving it 100% cover on the city approach from light tanks) it should now be easier for that spawn to get to the city faster and safer. A big issue was always that that spawn's heavies couldn't really get in to the city as they had a steep hill to climb and with this change it can start to look very different.
    For Overlord - these changes will change all the map dynamics and it'll feel more like a new map rather than a rework

    We'll have to playtest the changes but I think WG actually did quite a good job with these two reworks, especially with the beach removal as it is now submerged by the high tide which fits the historical context

    Highway:
    So, the "heavies lose, mediums win" side is now much more balanced. It looks like a good update.
    Overlord:
    Ok, so now the only position that provided at least a little bit of cover from the skycancer to the heavy tanks is now gone, replaced by completely open fields, so that all the anti-fun devices cannot be avoided anymore.

    Overlord and its beach was one of the most amazing maps to me when i started WOT so many years ago. I remember even friends teaching me the jump off the amazing cliffs on training maps to attain victory. What a shame to remove the beach.

    Congrats on 13 years!
    With the changes to these maps, I kinda wish they'd lean into the random events more. For Highway, they could have more Twister-esque weather, with a flash flood affecting the river and lower areas, and some of the outer houses being blown away. It could also be funny to see an unlucky or careless LT getting picked up and blown away too. As for Overlord, I never really liked the beach, but I would love for it to remain for a limited time at the beginning of each battle, but have some tidal effects come in to play and risk drowning anyone who remains for too long. This could be on a longer "silent timer" that starts at the beginning of the battle and visibly washes out the beach over ~1.5-2 minutes, allowing for the high-speed, high-risk, high-reward fighting while preventing the drawn out HT/sniper duels that really drag some games down.

    Congratulation Dez for all these years and all to come !
    I am french and I love the fact that we have the Overlord map, and I play since April 2012 and saw all the changes, good and bad ones.
    But, in the current state of WOT and people gameplay, the beach is a great part for history, but in the game if you go there, the battle is lost (but people don't care, die, loose and then blame you for not going there) but it's just how WOT play style is actually.
    But I am concerned that all that area is removed completely, maybe reorganised it would have been better ? Idk but that's a huge change for sure !

    Seeing them rise the tide to remove the beach was interesting. Might mean that the beach isn't gone for good, remember that they were working on tides note long ago for airfield

    Dez you might not see this however, I stopped playing WOT 2 years ago. I no longer found joy in the game. In saying that, I still find some of the joy I used to have by watching your videos. For that I thank you. I thank you for all the hard work and time you have dedicated to providing us entertainment. Content creation is not easy and it's not a fast job. Never the quality you produce.     Came up against a 2 man platoon of Crushers the other day on Tundra. They tried the hill then pulled back around the river and under the bridge. Was in my AE Phase 1, landed a few shots easily through lower plate, but if they cover it with the extended tracks no chance to pen. They aren't that manoeuvrable and their DPM didn't seem that great. They both died about third of the way through the match. They're team won though.

    They should ad new or old maps..some changes are good an necessary. But i miss those oldschool maps like Minsk or Sacred Valley omg and Windstorm one of my favorits.. :(

    Actually I am glad that they got rid of the beach. It was as if two different battles were going on at the same time, one taking place on the beach and the other over land. Usually half the team heads down to the beach and gets obliterated there, while whoever controls the hill always wins. At least now, your team won't get divided at the start as the battle will take place almost entirely on land.

    The added part of Overlord seems a bit too open, but overall I like it better than the current map version. Highway, not sure new version looks playable, but current version is also not too bad. Here's to 13 more years

    1. Im 50:50 on highway and think I need to play it first but I like the changes to the north west corner
    2. Overlord is a very nice change that I am looking forward to but like most people mentioned it would have been nice to keep the beach as background scenery

    I don’t know about the Overlord changes. Removing the beach removes the historical significance of the map. If anything, stretch out the beach and have 1 team spawn there and the other in the back. Fight for the middle.

    Overlord is literally a historical map and them removing the beach and putting water and allat is just bad because most people know what happened there and it made it interesting.

    First: The video was somewhat dark in the beginning ? Maybe its the game version.
    Highway looks to be stronger for North spawn on new map.
    Which is warranted, since South today has 50.46% win ratio vs 48.11% North.
    On most maps, South or East wins.
    The maps with biggest win/lose difference includes Mines, Sand River, Redshire, Mountain Pass, Ensk, Pearl River, Fisherman's bay, Live Oaks, Overlord, Empire's out of Order, Oyster Bay.
    Himmelsdorf, Lakeville and Ruinberg stands out as North wins more often on those maps, except the low tier maps Widepark/Province, where North also wins on both.
    WG has some work to do, if they want to even out the win/lose ratios on maps. I doubt they put much work into it.
    If they did, they would analyze matches and incrementally try adjusting maps, not like just drop the beach on Overlord and hope for the best 🙂
    I remember Swamp changed over time with playstyle, it was kind of even, and suddenly it was a massive advantage for the team that managed to cross the wetlands first, and put spotters to proxy spot the ridge.
    That was intellectual strategic development 😛

    i cant troll anymore by running heavy beach anymore lol, otherwise overlord looks like pretty cool changes, highway has some changes i like, and one that i find will make light tanks very possibly powerful, the hill that got added to city side has a tree on it, knock it down and its a centralized spotting bush on higher ground

    making the map smaller is just LAZY, idiots went beach and never won BUT they could just have added a second circle like mid in the upper part of map and that would be enough to fix any problem, with more space ppl can make better plays OR have difference in games.. it also leaves light tanks space to do their jobs.

      @@Loudnose not just talking about the poles, the Japanese and Italians recently got TD's, but they've been blocking fields of fire and removing cover on every map and most TD's don't have the armour or HP to go head to head with their obvious favourites hull down heavies
