6 months later: I just thought about something real sad, so thought I'd share. Since vampire boyfriend is immortal and he says he'd never feed on us (I.e turn us). Hes gonna watch us grow old and die, but he will just keep living on for the rest of time. Then it continues of the cycle of making bonds with people and then watching them die. The American accent is the original British accent and around the time of the pioneers leaving the british started developing a new accent to sound more posh, elegant, and refined.
Its not quite that simple - its more like there were certain isolated pockets that retained the original 'British' accent and nowadays they sound like a weird sort of mix. And Americans say certain sounds, like 'R' as in 'card' the same way certain parts of England used to back in the 17th Century. And there isn't really a single 'British' accent anyway, for a pretty small island there's a weird amount of variation, mostly due to ancient invasions and centuries of immigrants. Language is ever evolving - so interesting!
