I love learning about early engineering solutions, like that governor, and the purpose of the flywheel. If I were trying to design a steam engine from scratch, I probably wouldn't have thought of those. But it makes perfect sense when I see the engine in action. It's just really satisfying seeing a machine come together and function like this.
I think you forgot the Spoiler Break Image this time, or at least you show it usually after saying "after the spoiler break" ;P Interesting kit, I quite dislike that the 2 holes in the boiler are slightly misaligned from top to bottom though!
Less than 2 mins in, and I want one. Such beautiful design and production. Fortunately, (maybe?) I'm totally running out of desk and shelf space for stuff like this. Even visiting the KontaX site recently I didn't purchase anything. Simplest solution? Buy another house, lol. Thank you for this; it brings back the past of when I marvelled at going to historical steam engines in Devon and Cornwall, and seeing the APT and Stephenson's Rocket 'parked' next to each other in York. And nobody back then had digital cameras!! Argh!!! That I'm short of space is probably a good thing. I could definitely spend thousands on this kind of thing. .. how much are new houses these days? .. hmmm. I need to look closer into this... 😂😂😂😂😊😅
I built a 2 cylinder steam engine in highschool metal working class. Only my friend and I made them because it was my idea 😀 They were really amazing, but unfortunatly, mine was lost in a move many years ago.
My cousin made a model of a working steam engine when we were kids. It came as a kit like this but a bit lower quality...more for education purposes. Pretty much the same thing tho'. It came as a model/kit that you put together. It ran on alcohol. I ran a tiny little incandescent bulb when done correctly. Fun! This one is much higher quality tho' and looks like fun to build and muck around with.
Very Satisfying to see it running... There's something amazing about simple but complex nature of such machine. BTW: I don't know if you are aware of, or watch a RUclipsr Quinn A.K.A. "Blondihacks" It's a machining channel and she builds projects that include boilers and steam engines. She is currently building a Pennsylvania A3 Switcher locomotive at 3.5" gauge (much bigger than the kit) and it will run on an actual track pulling cars and perhaps people around in the yard at a model railroad club. She is building this fantastic machine completely from scratch using her lathe and mill in her garage workshop and she explains the construction and concerns about pressure vessels. She's got over 50 videos on that project alone, and she is still building it. I have no association with the channel, but I find it very interesting to watch.
I like the "Jakemy". A little pricey but worth it IMO. It has every bit you'd use daily and others are available. It also has a 'magnetizer / demagnetizer' for those small fasteners that are hard to fiddle with. ;^)
Collecting rocks are a cheap hobby. Fun for some, not for others. One can't put a price on 'hobbies'. They all cost "time, energy, treasure" One finds ways to support one's hobby and makes sacrifices when appropriate. ;^)

Really awesome steam engine.
Just as satisfying to watch as the puzzles you normally do, and it’s always cool to see other things on the channel

No spoiler cause it's not a puzzle. Duh

Yes, the bearing brackets were angled quite a lot initially, I shouted back in time but you didn't hear me...
This is a great project! I love man(woman)made machines of all types.
Hi, have you got the pully on the fly wheel and the bracket around the wrong way?

I will check it out
Anyone else have a Mouse Trap(tm) flashback?
Sir, where do I get this electric screw driver? It is so small!🥹

Nice kit. Too expensive for a hobbiest.
