  • It was quite the lineup at Live at the Bike, as Mike Matusow and Garrett Adelstein fought for a very big pot. Also with a vested interest was Phil Hellmuth, who apparently was staking Mike or had a piece of his action.

      @@DoctorChained hey doctor I've been playing poker 40 years and I somewhat agree with you however I also subscribe to the newer way to play poker using solvers and flopzilla and you say that this hand smashes the Flop 5.5% of the time yes that's true two pair better but it also flops a flush draw 11% of the time and a straight draw 10% of the time so 21% of the time it flops a flush or a straight draw and five and a half percent it smashes a flop so 26% of the time Garrett is going to continue with this hand... Mike could have sized his 4 bet a little higher and Garrett is getting about 13 to 1 implied odds on the call preflop... if Mike only had about 20 or 25,000 would be a terrible call but I think anything 40000 or higher and you feel like you can stack the guy if you hit your hand then it's okay play.. A question I have; would it be correct to call the 4 bet with 88 or 99 preflop? My worry would be that against a 4 bet those hands are likely very behind and they're hard to play on any flop where they don't hit a set. Even if there are all undercards you would still be worried about jacks - aces.
    any advice appreciated.

    Doug, thanks for covering this hand. This hand does a great job showcasing why including 4bet semi-bluffs like 67s, 89s, 9Ts, TJs, and JQs at low frequencies is so important for your range. If you only 4bet Aces and Kings, this board just has you crushed. You will have 3 combinations of a set of kings, and 6 combinations of Aces. That means that 2/3 of the time you are drawing dead, and 1/3 of the time you have about 25% equity.
    If you only 4bet Aces and Kings, though, I do think calling down is fine with these aces is fine. If you only 4bet aces and kings, I would take this line when facing the turn $10k bet:
    *3 combos of AA with a spade - FOLD.
    *3 combos of AA without a spade: call. Call river if there is not a spade. In this case there was a spade so you would fold river. Your opponent can have hands like AJs, AQs, ATs which are pair and a flush draw or Straight draw + a flush draw.
    *3 combos of a set of kings - Jam turn. Worst case you have 25% shot to hit a boat.

    • @DoctorChained
      @DoctorChained 4 года назад +2

      Also, if you're not results-oriented this is a good example of not being deep enough to call preflop with 76s. You're not flopping nearly enough to justify a call with those stack sizes. Doug Polk is right, you should just fold.

    I’m not sure what the turn raise was, it seems a good board to check the flop with aces - Nut advantage is def in the 3bet call range, a few sets etc. I thought checking aces there was good. Then on turn it seems that line went well of track. Least it was a heads up pot. Tonight in cash game I seen a guy basically do this exact same thing on a wet board in a 6 way pot with aces 500 blinds deep vs 2 big stacks. He folded turn after putting in about 50% stack.

    I said it before and I will say it again, I find it unethical to back another player in a game you are actually playing in. I don't think there is any intent to cheat, but it creates situations where motivations can be questioned and unnatural situations occur. It's just not right and should be avoided. It BS to lose a hand to player A and actually have player B lamenting the loss, it's ridiculous.
