    Federer and Safin are in my top 10 favourite players of all time. After this final, something remarkable happened a year later on this very court.

      No one wants to talk about Federer's draw in this tournament. He went through the best players of his generation en route to the title! Peak Ferrero (absolute beast), peak Nalbandian (world class talent and mental giant) and finally Safin. I challenge anyone to show me a more treacherous road to a major final. This Federer run was his most impressive because of the talent he faced along the way. Safin had a much easier road to the final.

      @conorgardnerr 20 часов назад

      @@bradleydavis9502 Thats not much of a challenge. Stan beat 2 of the big 3 in both his 2014 Aus Open title and the 2015 Roland Garros win. Del Potro absolutely cleaned up prime Nadal and then beat prime Federer in 2009. Basically anyone who won a slam having to face one of the big 3 has a better claim for a more treacherous run than this. Federer mopped the floor with these players for practically 4 years straight with like a 93% win rate, that is virtually unchallenged. Its not a treacherous run if these players posed absolutely no threat to him.

    Ahhh I miss those green coloured courts. The blue is too vivid. I think this was the game that had me in stitches. Marat not happy with a line call, thumped his foot on the court where he reckoned it landed. Such a funny bloke.

    Safin was exhausted going into this match, he played 3 5 setters and 3 4 setters. Not saying that he would have beaten Federer had he been fresh, but it certainly took at away from what could have been a great match, like the following year when Safin beat Federer in one of the greatest matches of all time, 9-7 in the 5th set.

      What a match that Safin Hewitt final was. Federer can't win em all especially when you absolute mount rushmore legends of our sport competing in the same era! This era with Coria, Gaudio, Safin, Hewitt, and, of course, Roddick was intense. All court games with zero weaknesses.

    • @bradleydavis9502

      2003 Federer post Wimbledon was incedible, especially on clay. He ran into a monster in Guga in 2004 Roland Garros. No one and I mean no one would've beaten that Guga at the French that year and Federer fought like hell. 2004 clay court Federer is extremely underappreciated.

      Remember when Djokovic said he would be the best ever. Federer has 8 Wimbledon titles and Djokovic has 7 lol. Federer also beat the best to get his titles. Philippousis, Roddick not once but twice. Peak Nadal in 2006 and 2007. People forget how deadly Roddick was on grass. I would've liked to have seen Djokovic beat that Roddick and also Philippousis because we know big servers can dominate grass and Pilippousis was incredibly dominant on grass.

      Its the ball toss, which gives away the hint of where the serve is going to go. Having so many variations on the serve with almost exactly the same ball toss is what made Fed great. Even Djoker for that matter. Highly underrated serve!

      Lol!Safin beat a young Djokovic twice,something that current era scrubs could never do against a 35-year-old.
      The truth is the only strong era is between 2008~2012,where the big 4 were all relatively in form and the top 8 being
      Tsonga,Berdych,Del Porto,Soderling,and Ferrer… After 2013 Roger declined severely,Rafa was a joke on grass for a long while and often injured,Murray came back from 2 injuries and was never as good as pre 2012.While the other members either got old
      and declined,or just injuries after injuries.
      The truth is even prime Murray,or prime Delpo,Berdych,Tsonga…etc .Will beat the living shit out of this current era.
