    "I never hit women. They're far too dangerous". - Humphrey Bogart.

    Lauren (Betty) Bacall was just amazing in these early films. Just a teenager, she demonstrated a sophistication (with coaching, I have no doubt) beyond her years.

    I think my screen writing teacher is trying to turn me into a Bogie fan. We've seen Casablanca and Sierra Madre within two months of each other. I gotta say....I think it's working!

    He smoked because he had false teeth and his top lip used to stick on them so he used smoking to cover him pulling his lip down.. I was told that by a Bogart fan 40 years back.. Sounds feasible.

      I think she meant he doesn’t have to do anything special to get her attention and
      I’m not quite sure maybe she meant it as “maybe just whistle” for like calling her like a. Call girl
      It’s not as dirty as it sounds but it’s not completely innocent

    Best scenes? he was Humphrey Bogart in every one of them, no diversity, on an acting Parr with John Wayne or Keano Reeves, don't believe the hype.

    • @ricardocantoral7672
      @ricardocantoral7672 6 лет назад

      True. Humphrey Bogart was no Spencer Tracy but on the few occasions he deviated from his screen persona, Bogie was damn good. Dixon Steele, Captain Queeg, and Fred Dobbs were his best roles by far.

    • @jollysheldone425
      @jollysheldone425 6 лет назад +1

      Actually I think the African Queen was his best work, with the Treasure of the sierra madre, a very close second. But he's not a Gary Oldman or Christan Bale type actor, where you have to ask the question, who is actually playing the part? It took me 20 years to figure out that Mason verger was actually Sid vicious? When you don't know who is acting the part, that is acting.

      @@jollysheldone425 Acting is sincerity, not versatility. What matters is if you buy what they are emoting. I recall an interview with Orson Welles and he was asked who was his favorite film actor. Welles shocked the interviewer by answering James Cagney. Welles loved him because he said there was never a phony moment when Cagney acts. Sure, Cagney was not up there Walter Huston or Charles Laughton but what mattered is you bought what he was selling.

    • @jollysheldone425
      @jollysheldone425 5 лет назад +1

      And he was sincerely Humphrey Bogart in all his films, just different scripts.

    • @jollysheldone425
      @jollysheldone425 5 лет назад +1

      Don't get me wrong Ricardo, I love all of his performances and strongly believe, I could not have cast a better actor in those roles, they are in essence his now, and despite the movie industry insisting of remaking everything, I don't think his efforts could be surpassed, I'm just saying he wasn't the most versatile, when it came to characters.
