  • For my new to me 2004 (955) Porsche Cayenne, I ordered two new Key Fob Shells to upgrade and replace the originals.

    Thank you for this video. using your method I transferred everything over and started the car and locked and unlocked the doors. However, when I took the Fob apart to super glue it back together, I accidentally broke the small plastic pen size tip that the spring sets on when I was putting it all back together .

    Just got myself into a Cayenne and this is a very helpful video. The one and only remote that came with the car is very worn. Thanks for putting this together!

    Do the headlights on the new key fob work when you press the unlock?

    I think suncoast Porsche sells oem key shells for like 80$

      Yes they do, BUT If you read their description, it is not just the shell it is the head with the circuit board un-programmed. You still need to swap over your key blade, and then have it programmed by the Dealership. Note it says the "codes are not included" -the dealership is the only one I know of who can request the codes needed from Porsche HQ to activate the FOBs and learn them to the car. So, PROs = OEM grade fob and you don't have to mess with electronics etc... CON = Min. $200 by the time your done. Suncoast link www.suncoastparts.com/product/PK955KEY.html

      MKITGO2 unless you use all your old pieces like you did, if you are careful you can open these up without damaging them.

      As a side note I ordered one of those and a locksmith cut the key blade, and programmed it and my total cost for a new key, because I only had one, was 130$

      @@The_regular Nice! I stand corrected then. Everything I had researched indicated finding a locksmith to cut the key was almost impossible... and that Fob programming required the Dealership. _ There is apparently the ability to program one 'emergency' fob into the KESSY unit.. but if you had more than one FOB to replace you'd be out of luck.. unfortunately its one of those things where there isn't once sole source of all knowledge. People can only relate what has worked or not work for them.! Thanks for the additional info.

    I have 2 factory keys. One is worn out and still working while the other one is in mint condition, but the circuit board is dead, can I swap the circuit board from old f.key to the to other f.key?

      In theory you could. But I doubt that you will get the factory casing apart without damaging it. Both of mine were very difficult to crack open.

      I hear ya. But I find that ebay listings can come and go so quickly... Unfortunately it was a couple years ago now, and the seller no longer has them listed.

      I ended up finding the OEM replacements on eBay. The only issue was getting the old fobs apart. I had to use a hammer and a slab of wood to carefully DESTROY the old fob in order to get it open. The new setup works like a charm but damn... I didn't realize that the old fob was GLUED together with Gorilla Glue.

    Did you find out how to add the Porsche emblem to the back of the fob?

      Sorry for the delay responding. I ended up using a hobby knife set (think scalpel) and carved away at the case around the edges of the emblem carefully. I found that heating the blade of the knife helped a lot. I used a small butane torch to heat the knife. The glass reinforced nylon of the case is pretty solid stuff. Once I got enough room around the edges I could start slipping the edge of the blade underneath the edge of the emblem. Then I used the hair dryer to heat the emblem and the glue holding it, then began gently prying it up. ** The emblem is not super stiff and I think will bend or deform fairly easy so go slow and use the heat and it came out fairly easy.     Do you know how to convert the 2-button key to a 3-button ket

      I don’t. While I had mine open, I did find the 3rd button on the circuit board, but it produced the same results as the existing lock/unlock button. It did not offer any extra features. I think to move up to a 3 button, you will need to get all new remotes and have them programmed at Porsche IF it’s even possible.
