Look Landon, if you want feedback on the guitar... turn your amp up really loud, then turn the guitar up really loud, and then get the guitar as close as you can to the amp...then the amp will be like, "Hey, that's a pretty nice guitar, man."

I've been playing guitar nearly 40 years and have never like the shape of the SG... that being said, I just happened to play a Walnut-finished Gibson 1961 Re-issue with '57 Classics while picking up another guitar that had been shipped to my local store and I bought both. Sometimes a guitar that you're sure you will hate surprises you (and vice versa). Another great post, Landon. Cheers.

Hey brother. Another great review. Still my favorite go to channel for these vids and getting better every time. The fact that you always make sure to remind folks that what they're hearing does in fact go through RUclips's compression software etcetera and that you remind them that what you hear in the room differs as well is a HUGE thing to instill in your viewers, especially for those who have less experience with gear. Still you always sprinkle the specs, your sarcasm, witty dad puns, and thorough attack of whatever you're reviewing in each video with a beautifully haphazard methodical melancholy madness that engulfs the synapses of the brain and draws me in each time! BRAVO SIR! BRAVO!

Girlfriend bought me one as an early birthday present. I'm usually a super strat guy (Jackson, Charvel, Ibanez).
Honestly I'm really impressed with this sweet little ripper, I had to set it up to my preferences. That non-withstanding; this thing feels great, sounds spectacular through everything I've run it through (Marshall MG10, Vox AC30, Orange Tiny Terror). The pickups for my mileage I don't think are going anywhere anytime soon, they're clear even with a generous amount of dirt, they don't get muddy or wubby on the bottom end mids are nice and round, favoring the upper-mids, and a great bite on the top end
The neck has me really impressed, digging the profile a lot, and being used to extra-jumbo frets; I have to say I prefer the feel of these medium-jumbo's.
I actually don't mind the laurel fretboard, it was thirsty out of the box; but again...lemon oil cured that. The vintage tuners are perfectly stable.
The guitar is also super resonant, its loud even unplugged and has a ridiculous amount of sustain. It's not a honeymoon effect either this thing is objectively THAT good.
My day isn't complete unless I've spent at least an hour with this thing.

  • @maekong2010

Love that bridge pickup. Seems to mate-up nicely with that guitar. I'm an LP guy, but my first love was an SG. Good job on the review. Nut-width is important. But I'd use the 12th fret rather than a "random middle fret" for the second measurement. The same with depth measurement - first and twelfth. But, hey, it's your show. And you're pretty good at it, so whatever you do is fine. Cheers.

Fixed the neck pickups slight muddiness it had, I first lowered the neck pickup and then raised it's polepieces under G B and high E strings a little bit.
The bridge pickup is aggressive and neck pickup is deeper, the middle position is often a fine combination.

  • @michaelsguitars3079
    @michaelsguitars3079 2 года назад +1

I have one of these in white and really like it. I'm planning to replace the pickups at some point though. The bridge is way too quite at max volume and the neck pickup is way too loud and hot at max volume. They're not balanced at all. It makes it difficult to use the Epiphone in a live setting because I have to increase the volume on my amp or pedals to compensate. These Epiphones are a great mod platform though. I also really like the bevel carves on the body. It took several decades, but Epiphone finally got them right.
Also I noticed that the body on these SGs are thicker than their Gibson counterparts, so that's the reason why they don't neck dive. They have more body weight to compensate. They're even thicker than the old Epiphone bodies.

The epiphone pickups sounds a little hotter. If you compare both together the epiphone has less of a neck angle, this actually makes more of the string closer to each pickup than the Gibson. Maybe that's why it sounds hotter?

Nice review, and some Beatles and Rush influence in your playing, which suited the tones and really helped show the guitars' versatility. Always enjoy your reviews and would like to hear your guitars played through a Vox amp too, if still have one, to further show their capabilities. Thanks for your entertaining and informative videos, you would need diving gear or maybe an electron microscope to get any deeper into these instruments.

It's amazing how the SG has been around since Moses played full back against the Egyptians. Back in 1977 I was 15yo. Moses; not sure?! But I bought an Ibanez SG then with the same colour as your example. Anyway that's my rave! * me thinks I need a strong coffee!* PS; It's the grandmother of all dirt!!

It looks and sounds like the late 1960's Gibson SG that my brother-in-law had. If it plays as good as the old SG's, then it's worth the price. (Never really cared for the Devils Horn body design & still don't, but that's a personal preference that doesn't affect the music.)

if your chapter layout could be converted to music, I'd say you went from Minor over to Phrygian and transitioned into Lydian. I could be wrong though since I'm not much into music theory.
